yo i really dont wanna be doing a spring sport this year but i just had my first day of practice. my mom is making me do this, its not really my choice. what are good ways to get out of doing the sport? not going is not an option, i need to have a legit excuse to not do it.

if you wanna know why, i am a second semester senior, into college (i got in a little bit for this sport, but dont plan on doing it in college), and i just wanna relax this spring.

any help?

How about you strap it on and tell her you don't want to play! It's your choice, not hers, and not ours. Do what you want.

rowing

im a captain thats why i cant just quit (i was elected captain during our fall season, but i want a legit excuse as to why i cant row for the spring- i.e. injury or something)

But then you're forgetting about the part where we will then have a shit load of hours during ski season...

But really, just don't do it. Theres no benifit in you playing the sport, unless you're really good or love it. If you hate it, it is not going to help you get scholarships to college or anything, and you're just going to stop after this year. And you're 18(I assume) and you dont have to play if don't want to. In short, just backhand that hoe.

your a senior and your mom still makes you play sports? but for real, just grow a pair and tell your mom your not playing. whats she going to do about it anyway?

^because im pretty good at it. last year we went to nationals (like the actual nationals, not just within a state or region- we were going against people from cali and im from boston), but i have just lost all motiviation. i cant just leave the team like that b/c im a captain and its kinda dick since they kinda need me. thats why i need a legit excuse

just grab a shot put and throw it as hard as you can overhand. that should end your season. or you could purposely flip your boat every race until you get booted off. or even just go to your next school dance bombed.

or you could just tell her that you arent in elementary school any more and can make choices for yourself.

i know a girl who rows and is from boston and went to nationals also last year........

^yea well ive done it about 11 seasons so far (and half a summer season as well) so you can imagine the pain im going through haha. this will be my 12'th full season im ready to fucking quit

get caught high and then they'll kick you off the team, perfect solution. or just fake an injury. break your legs, chicks dig crutches- or at least thats what billy's mom told me

if you're a captain you really can't just bail on your team bro, escpessially if you're that good. I'm in a similar situation, second semester senior, captain of the track team and I was just tired of all of it. Ask your coach for a two week break or something, some time to rest your body, the first semester of your senior year is the most stressful of any, and it doesn't let up when scholarship apps. start to come about. Just tell him you need a week or two break, thats what I did

maybe quit being a pussy?

coming from someone who did the same thing and took ceramics as a spring alternative. do the sport. you dont get oppurt unit ies in college to be part of a team sport like u can in highschool and you'll miss it. stick it out i promise you wont regret it.

just tell them your not interested and you dont find it entertaining anymore. or say something like its too much pressure for you to bear. but you should at least join another team. like the rugby team!

Crew is fucking terrible, but you need to just sit down and have a serious discussion with your mom. Try to propose some good alternate uses for your time. Start doing these alternate things then just kind of phase them out. It does work, I did it my sophomore year in hs, sorry you had to do it for one more year than I did haha~

wow why wouldnt u want to do it if u went to the nationals, thats a great accomplishment, u could go to the olympics later in life. Learn to live love learn.

id say the most productive thing said is to try taking a break, talk to your coach about it and be like hey i really dont feel this, what do you think, then say the same to your mom, and just get everyones opinions and then make your own choice after that. sounds like you really have something going for you and youre real good at it, but if you really hate it theres no reason to stick with it, cause otherwise its like some shitty job you dont get payed for.

This is obviously the most practical solution. Maybe you really do just need a break and you can come back to it in a few weeks. Someone else said you will probably never get another opportunity to compete at this kind of level, they are right, definately something to consider.

i love rowing! I just started up for the spring season. It gets your body in such good shape, I mean at least the crew boys at my school are the hottest things ever. People think that rowing just gets your arms in shape, but its really a full body sport, if you quit and want to stay in shape go to a gym or something, but nothing will physically work you and test your endurance like rowing. but if you really dont want to do it. just dont.

Where I rowed it was pretty much a one sided deal for the girls haha /no homo. Still though, spandex can be pretty fucking amazing~

Rowing is a great way to get into college also, but you have to be 6'2+ if not 6'4. I knew a guy with a 1.4 HS GPA who got a scholarship to UW for crew. Anyways imo crew blows, you should quit~
