ok im getting my ged and shit and i did really good on the test but ever since i signed up for the class ppl r like calling me retarded and shit for being in it is getting ur GED really that bad?

wow i guess it really is that bad... =\ i feel like shit now cause im graduating next month and i cant change it well its better than spending 4 more years in highschool when i already spent 2 the guidence counsler said it would take that long bc im so far behind... but i got the highest score in my GED class by far kinda fucked up

my mom dropped out sophmore year and got her GED. She still went to a pretty good state university (San Jose State) and graduated.

Gettin Everybody's Dollars or something. chris rock said that. i think about black chicks?

but in my school, if you get that, your a dirtbag or something. stereotypical though

definantly a stereotype ^^^^ im the cleanest kid in my class though this is my first year in the GED class and im out of it next month the kids in my class have been there 2-3 years

GED doesnt mean your a retard, nore does it mean that your not retarded, it doesnt mean your going to be a failure or a success.

My take on it is the same as college.if you have drive you can make it with or without college, most people with drive are told that college is the only way so they go that way while people without drive decide to not go to college so alot of people who succed (those with drive) go to college while alot of people who fail (dont go to college)

personally I feal that I have alot of drive. I moved to LA a year ago this year im going to make 80k and I own part of the company. if the company does well me being a millionaire by 22 is completely realistic.

a few facts about me:

-I didnt go to College

-I didnt finish High School because I moved to California from New York and they informed me that I would have to redo all my classes from 9th grade.

-Every IQ test I have ever taken has given ranged me between 154 iq and 162

go to internet highschool.

its way better and you get an actual diploma from an accredited highschool

actually in the spring im gunna be the co-owner of a construction buiness with my brothers not getting paid as much as they do but ill be making $500 a week so thats not bad

That is really not enough to live on seth, unless you want to live with other people until you get a better job.

hahaha derek. good one.

and yea, getting your GED is usually a bad idea. but whatever you do, unlessyou have some other good line of work lined up, go to college. not only is ollege WAY fucking fun (even the school stuff is good if your in a good major), but it opretty much garentes ,you alot merre money.

When I walk through my high school, especially in my senior year now, I am always wondering what the jocks and meatheads are going to do after high school. I am a fairly above average student mainly because Im asian and I am already having a hard time getting into a good college. I look at some of these kids who are in like 5 studies and 3 gyms and wonder what are they going to do with their life. Sure they may be popular now but what happens after high school. I mean theres maybe one or two kids who are actually good enough at sports that they will probably get a scholoarship but what about the goons. Will they be the creep that goes to high school parties after he has graduated? Or will he be the substitute that comes back to temp in high school and gets bitched around because they are a sub? Sometimes there is almost a small amount of pity because I see them and just know they wont get anywhere in life. They have no drive to do anything in life. Not to bash anybody that by what I just described but its just my opinion. Most people will say that I have been brainwashed and have conformed to the capatalist state of mind but can anybody tell me any other way in which somebody can actually get somewhere in life besides the lottery and a stroke of crazy luck.

mike i never said i was gunna live off of $500 im saying im saving a lot of it so i can move to california and go westwood college for computer shit im already like top of my Info Tech class too

my mom had the chance to marry a guy who was rich as fuck like nice cars nice motorcycles and shit he was greek but.. of course my mom didnt take that chance

Don't listen to these fucks, my friend got his GED and now he makes more money then I could possibly make any time soon.

I agree tho. I was one of those "jocks" for the first 1.5 years of high school, then I realized I had to get my shit together. I started taking harder classes, and pushing myself, while many of my friends stayed where I was. Now I have a 3.6 gpa, with honors and AP classes, and ACT's on 30 and SATs at 1810, and am applying to a couple good architecture schools. I still see myfriends in school sitting around on their asses, and while they may be having a great life now, I can't imagine what they are going to do when they graduate. Some are going to community college, and may actually go someplace, and others may end up working a shitty job for the rest of their lives. Make your lives what you want them to be. Even if you go to community college, it's a step up from high school. and then in 10 years, you might take another course or two and move up even more. It's your life, make it good

If I was really smart I would have dropped out of high school when I was a freshman, got my ged. Taken classes at community college and then gone on to real college.

I got mine cause i ski raced and missed most of highschool (raced full time)

people can give you shit for it, but its a fact, over 80% of highschool grads can't pass the tests, so yeah....and people look at it the same, its a highschool equivenelcey (wow i miss-spelled the fuck outta that one)

GED = Good enough diploma according to chris rock. Gedis not a bad thing if you a a few years from graduating and you dont need to put up with HS bullshit, or you are competing and dont have the time. If you cant pass a GED test, you should just kill youself tho.

i thought pretty much the same way about a lot of the people around me in high school, and since I didnt want that, I got my ass out of high school, took college classes instead, and now working on an M.Arch program (ok, a little presumptuous, but thats where itll head hopefully).

GEDs are good things for any reason. Much much better to have one than not. I don't see why people frown on them, they're legit. Some people definitely get by without them though, but college degrees are becoming a norm, so it'll only get harder realistically for most.

I see the same kind of thing. In my school, though, most of the jocks are real smart, and most of the smart kids always go away to college, it's just the fuckups that you know are going to go nowhere in life. The people who skip class to smoke weed, go to the trashy parties with 30 year olds that are still making minimum wage, do E, get pregant/impregnate someone. Those people go NOWHERE. It's only been about a year and a half since I graduated, and most of my friends I graduated with, actually, I think all of my friends have either finished a year of college, are into their second year of college, or have finished the school part of their apprenticeship and are working apprentices now.

It all depends on the decisions you make. I have a friend who is taking engineering at UBC in Vancouver, he's in his second year and he's very smart. I know he'll make a great living for himself. I have another friend who just graduated last year and she got a $16,000 to the University of Victoria where she's studying to be a physiotherapist. On the other side, I've got a friend who took Heavy Duty Mechanics at the local college and is in a 4 year apprenticeship program, he's now making shite loads of money working as an apprentice and when he's done his 4 years he'll have a job making somewhere around 6 figures.

The only friend I have who didn't go to college decided not to because he exceeded what colleges offered in their first year mechanics programs, and did a work experience practicum during grade 12 instead. He's now working at a local ford dealership as an entry level mechanic making pretty good money. When the time comes, the company pays to send him away to an institution where he can become the next level, where he goes back to his job and makes more money, and it goes on like that.

Basically, make good decisions and life will turn out well for you. I can't see any of my friends failing in their lives. Some of my friends are in the top 10% in school academically, while some of them, like me, just strum along getting some good grades, and some bad grades. Like, I had an A+ in InfoTech and an A in Carpentry, while I had a C- in Math, and had B-range grades in Physics, Biology, English, etc. and I'm doing well for myself so far. I'm in my 2nd year of college, I've got a certificate which I plan to turn into a diploma sooner rather than later, and then I plan on doing an internship or apprenticeship after I'm done school before finally stepping into the industry.

To the guy who started this thread. Props on getting your GED. Don't care what anyone says, you need this, and you are furthering your potential in life by doing this. If you decide to go onto college, which I really recommend doing, you are again increasing your employability and increasing your chances of living a prosperous, happy life.

well im doing marketing, promoting, event planning and other stuff for a fashion comapny. for a fashion company. Im also assisting a photographer since thats what I really want to do.

actually i found out when i was talking to my brother if by summer im still working i get a raise to $20 an hr so like $1000 a week is not bad at all its good shit

I'm getting my G.E.D. So I can get out of HS and start college. I'm going to UTI and Tulsa Welding School. Going to be making 100k+ a year welding underwater. For example if a boat gets a crack in the hull and they can't take it out of the water. I'd go under it and weld it shut.

ya dude ull be rich as fuck doin that shit i was just planning on doing shit with computers which is also good paying but not like that

think again. the Job market for computer stuff is so amazingly oversaturated paying rates are going down at a crazy rate. back in New York I did IT management for a brokerage firm as a summer job and made 30 bucks an hour now for the same job I would get like half that starting that position.

no your not. College is a set track for people who want to work for others.

not going to college you may have a harder time finding someone to work for but you can tread your own path and exceed every hope and dream that people who do go to college have.

dont let others impose their way of thinking on you. visualize how to succeed (make it realistic) and work hard youll make it.

fuck you to the guy that dog'd on working construction... im 19 i graduated high school and got a job working construction at 18 through my friends dad's buisness...it's a union job with benefits and i pull in 800-900 a week and yea thats after taxes, i get unemployment all winter long which gives me time to ski, drink, party, vacation...whatever, i drive a beautiful 69' chevelle every day i also have a 99' chevy s10 wit 54k on it as a winter/work vehicle. construction is great money and if u can deal with working then fuck its a great job and a decent living, i have thousands in the bank but yes i do live at home still but its no big deal im saving my money and going to continue working for the next 3-5 years and then move to myrtle beach and create my own buisness (niteclub) which i know whats hott and i know what stays hott anyways what im getting at is college isnt everything yeah knowledge is everything but you dont need college to become sucessful do what you want to do but not every successful person has gone to college.

heres a little list of people who succeeded without College:

Bill Gates

Steve Jobs

Harry S. Truman

Walt Disney

Michael Dell

Abraham Lincoln

Peter Jennings

Thomas Edison

Ty Warner

Michael Moore

Reverand Al Sharpton

Paul Allen

Larry Ellison

and a bunch of professional skiiers.

all the people on that list wether you like them or not are doing what they want in life, have alot of money, and made it by themselves they didnt get hand outs or family members giving them a buisness.

Work hard and your name can be added to that list. dont give up, dont let fuckers who are going to college and will live the rest of their lives after that in a cubicle tell you that your a failure or an idiot. have faith in yourself and persist. youll get it

how are you going to generalize an entire group of people? just so you know student athletes average better grades and graduation rate than those who dont play sports. fuck you

and just so you fucking know, asians get into colleges easier than whites and im not sure about blacks. universitys are required to accept a certain number of minorities. a girl from my school who graduated last year got accepted into the university of minnesota with something like a 2.0 gpa and a fucking 18 on her act. yeah asians have it tough fag
