Getting into Skiing.

Hey guys,

This is my 1st thread and I am new to Skiing. I used to snowboard for about 3 years but I never got used to it and it felt so unnatural. After watching my friends ride I think I am ready to give skiing a try.

Im wondering what Length skis I'll need, and if there are any other things I should look at.

I am 6'4'' 250lbs so I am no lightweight.

My main interest is in park skiing to be honest, our mountains over her are not that great for powder and most of the trails are mediocre. So I would definetly be looking into a pair of double tips to get me started, something cheap, even used if possible.

Thanks for the help, Dan

Have you ever skied before?

If not, rent some cheap skis for the first few times out. A shorter length will help you learn the basics and mechanics of turning quicker.

Especially since once you get the skills down you are going to need some pretty big skis.

I thought these got really soft really fast?

And yeah Public Enemies or rossi Scratchs would be good to learn on

i just started skiiing also  and what i learned is that just start to ski n like some bad rentals for lke a season to get used to it

then like i did get some good ones and it is so much easyer

for your height and weight the scott p3 in 184 would be pretty good cause of its stiffness and height and its not too expensive. before you buy skis get some good boots because that is maybe the most important part of a good skiing experience!so go to a store and try alot of boots on with a bootfitter and then start thinking about the skis. youre a pretty big guy so when you advance youre gonna need a ski in the 190 range but right now i think the p3 in 184 would be perfect! for a binding maybe go with the scratch 140 or salomon s914 if you want one thats gonna last.

If he is in the midwest or east where there isnt to much snow handy...190, even after he proggresses, would be to much ski for that kind of snow. 190 is like a powder ski

You and I are about the same size... I'm 6'2" 240 and for park I have some Chronic Wides in 187 and they ar PERFECT. It's a great ski to start off on too. For all mountain and powdery days I ride on THA 187s. I would recommend a ski above 185. If you feel you won't be able to handle the length, I might go as small as a 181, like the AR6, but no smaller.

thats a good suggestion. if youre gonna get a ski in the 185-190 range, I would definitely look into a wider ski like the chronic wide or rossi BC. plus, stowe has decent all mtn so i think youd like the extra width that you would get in a pure park ski like fujatives
