Getting caught for torrents and that stuff.

It just really scares the shit out of me when i read stuff about that kind of thing, and im just wondering, how do you get caught for torrents and lime wire and stuff like that? How easy is it to get caught?
 
you're probably already fucked. the government searches the internet for the t word (torre**) and then the track you IP, find out where you live and who you are etc. then fucking sue for all your worth. sucks dude, expect a letter in the mail soon.
 
i got caught at uvm for bit torrent, not for limewire and i have and use both. the email just told me to call this number so i did, and they just told me to delete the program. i did, and everything was fine. I went through a week or two where i downloaded a shitload of music, like 200 songs in that span of time and i was kinda waiting to get picked up and I did. but its not a big deal

Are you talking about a university or getting caught by the RIAA?

I think getting caught by an university is kind of a "slap on the hand" where they just tell you to stop.

The RIAA on the other hand, don't fuck with them. I wouldn't know personally though.
 
i'm not sure if they'll sue you for usage of said word...but you should definitely be expecting a letter from them warning you or something. just try to watch what you say you know, the internet isn't private...especially to the government.

awe shit dude the NS mods are such dicks, some kid who skis at my hill had this happen to him, luckily his friend is a lawyer and he got off with only like $4,000 in charges (rough estimate). if you destroy your motherboard before the info is sent (probably a 5 hr. window) you'll still be in the clear. the way i see it, i'd rather destroy a couple hundred bucks of equipment than being sued for thousands...
 
well on campus they can monitor how much you are downloading and such so if they see you've been downloading a ton of shit they'll get suspicious and look at what youre doing so just keep it small and such. so stay away from programs that end in torrent and such and if you have to download that stuff go somewhere where youre not using campus internet like a coffee shop or something. just be smart about it. my friend was using limewire and such they caught him and disconnected his internet for two weeks. they don't notify the riaa i dont think if its the first time or whatever but they could im sure.
 
Yea man, you seriously should think of buying a new pc ASAP... because even if you try to hide it, the government will be able to track you with your current IP. And remember to never write again the word Torr*** on newschoolers man. Good luck.
 
Its ironic because when they are actually looking to catch people RI** is one of the keywords they pick up on. Use peerguardian and dont be a fucking idiot and you will be ok. Also, unless you are on a university network or something just an IP address doesnt give them shit. They cant magically find your house, it gives you a general location but it takes a great deal of time and resources to actually track down the exact area, let alone computer. In the end aside from making an example out of a few idiots you really dont have much to worry about, its far easier and more effective to go after public trackers and the like~

dude you shouldn't make threads like this cuase they will see it and from your ns name they can find out your ip and shit. if they look on your computer and you have anything that can be proven downloaded they can fuck you up (remember that you can never delete anything fully unless you destroy your hard drive) so yea... your fucked
 
Obviously you are being sarcastic but in reality destroying your hd is the worst thing you can do if for whatever reason you know for sure youre about to get fucked (fucked fucked, not some worthless letter from comcast or your university). If they have enough evidence to get a warrant for your hard drives then they already know without a doubt what you have downloaded and all you will be doing is getting yourself an obstruction of justice charge as well~

Dude, if you know you're fucked (which you probably are), the only way to truly evade the RI** is to download Run For the Hills by Iron Maiden, then blast it really loud and run for the hills.

Then, hopefully, once you get to the hill, you'll realize how much of an idiot you were for trusting NSG to give you advice.

k so the REAL best way to keep your shit from getting taken and used as evidence, is to give your computer to mfm and ask him to take it to chads, because everyone knows you cant just go to chads, mfm will beat you up. Then when the FBI goes there to take your shit as evidence, they will get beaten up by mfm because they dont know any better.
 
Once you get to chads you'll want to do a switch 9 and put your hard drive into you boots so that when you hit the knuckle its like someone packed dinomite in your boots and it will destroy the evidence or else the FBI will find you by following your tracks in the snow to your house unless and i can't stress this enough

Friend of mine recieved a letter from his internet provider warning him that he had broke the copyright infringement set out by NBC, they highly suggested that he delete everything that he ever downloaded, even though the letter was for downloading one episode of The Office.

This asian kid stranded me in cb last year after he said hed give me a ride and i ended up having a very pleasant night in the grand junction bus station with some junkies called ninja and smokey. Revenge was sweet, since he always downloads torrents and shit like that we printed out a formal letter from this law firm that deals with that shit, printed out an official envelope, had a friend change her voicemail to one for the law firm and put her number on the letter. For a solid week we had the fucker convinced he owed nearly a million bucks for torrents and shit.
