Getting back into poles

At the beginning of the season, I had decided to ditch my poles. When I did this, I realized I could grab better, and I started learning some flips too. Recently, I have decided I should probably try and get back into using them again, or else it will just be extremely awkward when I start using them in the near future. But I ask, do you feel it is necessary? Is there a point in using them if you're more comfortable without them?

I see no point in going back to poles if you are more comfortable without them. I ski without poles in the park, I see no use for them there. But for carving, off piste, etc. I use poles.

i really dont think it will be awkward using them again... i mean come on their poles its not like youre going to start holding a baby giraffe while you ski... just do what you want. no poles? great! poles? great!

If you ski out of the park you will want them for sure but in the park I woul say it up to you. I think it can give a pretty bad style but it's personal choice. But yeah out of the park no poles suck so just use them when you actually ski hard.

I personally don't see a need for them in park but for big mountain/ powder I would definitely use them. It's all personal preferences tho. You won't have a problem using them again, if anything the problem would be ditching them.

I think even park skiers look way better with poles. I dont know exactly why I love using them so much but i guess it makes us that much different from boarders... ha

I agree with most of these people, poles do look better on park skiers. But don't focus on other people's opinions (I mean you can if you want to). If you're comfortable without poles, don't use 'em. But I heard Line Pointy Sticks With Grips are good. But I haven't tried them so I don't know for sure.

Poles=poles

Basically, any poly you are going to buy these days are the same. Sure, you can get carbon poles, or adjustable poles, but given how frequently they can break and how little of a difference separate types of poles make (in the park), basically any $5 ski swap pole will do.

You have a point. The only reason why I brought up Pointy Sticks With Grips is because I hear that they make a difference when it comes to grabs, though as I said before, I've never tried them. But the only poles that should never be used in the park are race ones, I feel like the majority of us can agree on that.

grab tabs? "Pointy sticks with grips" is just like their way of saying poles. It's not a specific pole or anything like that.

Are you kidding me? Now don't use the curved race poles, but I've been using the same pair of Rossi race poles for the past 5 years. You have to try really hard to break them.

I ditched my poles cause everytime I fell I basically broke my thumbs over and over again anyone else have that prob?

Let go of them when you fall...

I went no poles for like half a season then went back to usin them and I think they look better on park skiers and skiers in general also I felt like when I was using em I was actually being serious whereas when I wasn't using em I was just foolin around
