Getting a macbook pro, I have one quick question NS

Ok guys I have a quick question here about the macbook i'm gonna be getting for this fall at university.

I can get either the 2.4 GHz macbook pro with 4 gigs of RAM and the 3 years of AppleCare for the same price as the 2.5 GHz one with 2 gigs of RAM and no AppleCare.

What should I get? I don't get it, why is 2.5 GHz so much more money than 2.4GHz, is it really that much better? As far as I can tell thats the only difference. I mean the 2.4 GHz is the same price and it has more RAM and the AppleCare. I'm no computer expert though.

Also, what is better, a 250 GB hard drive @ 5400 RPM or 200GB at 7200 RPM?

def get the one with the applecare..it will save you a lot of money especially when you least expect it.

first of all, get the 7200 rpm HD. your computer is only as fast as your hard drive, faster is better! and wit hteh apple care...i have heard from alot of people who sell and work on comptuers that the extented warrenty isnt worth the price. its much more likely that IF any problems will arise in teh 3 years, that it will be less than what you pay for the extended warrenty.

something will usually happen at college

someone will knock it off your desk

or youll spill something on it

definetly get the applecare

yeah my friend spilled a drink in his keyboard and got charged by apple around $150.00 to get it repaired, applecare didn't cover it

applecare only covers if it just breaks from normal use. no dropping, water damage or spilling of any kind. basically only if it just breaks down

yes sir. get this one, the 4 gigs of ram to 2 gigs is a lot. applecare is a definite yes. you can go in and just bypass the line of fools who didn't get it and laugh at them. plus you never know what might go wrong.

yeaaa, you're gonna want 4 gigs of ram to run your OS i would say you should get the 2.5 anyway because it wont get outdated as fast and will preform better for longer, and better batt life. if you're gonna spend the money make it count.

haha no it's actually 1600 too much. i work at a hotell i eyed it. a better pc (2.8 ghz processor 320gb hard drive (7200 rpm) better vid card, ect.) costs 1200 less than a macbook pro. and that's a powerfull machine you could get a lower processor if you want and step into mac's level with a 2.5 for like 300 less.

ok i don't know macs.... and honestly. i don't want to. i bought a dell ( yeah, kill me ) with a dual 3.0 processor, 2 gigs of ram, and 250 gigs of HD space... and that was in 2006 wen i started college... and i know its gonna last me til i graduate 2011 ( 5 year program ).. as long as you are a responsible person... put your computer away for dorm parties, etc.. the warrenty isn't worth it... but if you are gonna use it for party music, etc. then def go with warrenty.

I knew a friend who had Southern Comfort spilled on his brand new macbook. I was fucking pissed off for him. Apple basiclly said "go fuck yourself you need a new computer"

i didnt get the careplan on mine and i am glad i didnt, you will get a normal warrenty with it and it sounds like that it does the same stuff as the other warrenty. i would wait though for the new generation of them to come out though. you might get a cooler free ipod and this years video editing on macs suck.

you'll be fine with the 2.4, but get the 7200 rpm 200 gig, hd speed affects how fast your computer runs too. and also if you wanted to get the 2.5, you have until the end of your initial 1 year warranty to buy apple care, so you can wait. ie. i bought my comp in aug. 2006 but didnt buy apple care until july 2007

the initial warranty that every comp comes with is one year, apple care covers you for 3 years. i would be fucked if i didnt get apple care.. the logic board has shit the bed twice on me, that would be roughly 2g's out of my pocket if i didnt have an extended warranty. apple is awesome and the software they produce cant be beat in my opinion, but their hardware is unreliable. $350 is worth it because pretty much anything you replace on it will definitely cost you more than that.

Here's what you are gonna do. You are gonna get the 2.5 ghz one. And you are going to buy aftermarket RAM and put it in for a third of the price of the Apple RAM. And all the aftermarket RAM is going to be under warranty. Apple only insures half the sticks of RAM it gives you.
