k so it will be my first one, im lookin at a nikon d40 right now, i was considering the canon digi rebel xt, but the nikon is less, appears to be more noob friendly, and just better deal in gen. it sells for 749 CAD..

anyone got any comments or recommendations, i dont want to spend more than a grand in total

don't get a d40, it uses a different lens mount than other Nikon dslr's so if you want to upgrade you will have to buy different lenses (dont believe me 100% i'm more of a canon guy)

I would instead look for a used Canon 20d. Once you get past the learning curve you will be so glad you didn't buy a entry level camera. I've seen 20d's on ebay for like $850 with a lens
 
yea i just read a reveiw that said that, and that nikon cameras have noisyer pictures, while canon's produce much better quality images.. ill look into that one you mentioned, but the Drebel xt is probly what ill get, thnx for the help, im really a camera noob

im pretty positve ( 95%) sure im gonna get the Rebel XT. i have a buddy with one and he thinks its dope.

now all i have to do is a) sell my bike

or b) wait till march when ill have money!
 
dont get the rebel

until:

You have felt it(horrible build quality and feel

Realize what you are goin to be shooting and if you ever want a fisheye(nikon offers the 10.5 which is a lens that owns any canon fisheye

Realize that it has a low sync speed if you will eventually be shotting with flashes

And that a D50 is a better choice

Get:

Nikon D50 refurbished body-399

Nikon 18-70mm DX 3.5-250

1GB SD Card

and a backpack(apollo, tamrac,etc)

this setup is one of the best setups for the beginner if not the best

eventually:

Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-Great low light fast lens, converts to around 75mm(35mm focal) with crop factor

Vivitar 285HV flash(s)

Ebay slaves

Tripod

 
yea but how much is that, ill be using it for bike, ski and normal pics, with the odd artsy one in there
 
oh alright

id say go with the

D50 body and 50mm 1.8 AF and 1gb card

or

D50 body and 18-70mm used lens
