they go after 'token' cases. The stereotypical college kid with 1000's of songs. They hit the father of four that has four songs. The 70 year old woman who may not even have a song. The 12 year old girl who shouldnt be sued in the first place. The industry exec of some company.
They prosecute high profile cases to try to scare everyone. US (14-22 year old males and females with an average amount of songs) have nothing to truely fear. Were not high profile, just another fish in the pond.

Because they are the next thing. Why try to stop people from stealing music when it is impossible. Movie companies freaked when VHS vcr's came out thinking that everybody was going to steal movies and shows. Yep, some did, but people still go to the good movies and the movie industry is still growing. I totally support downloading individual songs as long as you dont download whole albums. That mean and your just fucking the band in the ear with a stick.
Also, I ripp my Cd's into Mp3's. Totally legal and way easier to move around. Mp3 players are small, use less power, dont skip and are easy to produce. My player goes 8 hr on one AAA battery.

how do they know your age and sex by just looking at the songs on your computer, i mean to some extent they get an idea, but they cant be sure unless they have some concrete evidence that tells them your age and everything

best estimate 80+ gigs, mainly full albums and high quality (mostly 192 variable bit rates), also they are legal owned (back ups of cd's I have or have once bought, but has since been either stolen or damaged)
Last count I have about 2500 cd's, also the best way to not get caught, especially if you have a lot of mp3's is to not share with other people. Its one thing to help out a friend, or share a couple, its quite another to have your whole drive of mp3's shared to the world.
and yes, removable hard drives are your friends.

send your music you download to a folder so it isnt being shared. then you have just the bandwith you choose. keep how many songs you download to like 3 at a time small bandwith with just 3 songs coming in and nothing going out.

^but you never know, because just look at Metalica and their lead in the RIAA's quest. Metalica used to encourage people to record, bootleg, and trade the recordings of their shows, and now that they've become money whording pigs, they are attacking people that are doing that, and those that are trading/sharing their songs.
