Sorry I accidentally hit tab and posted too early lol. But what happened is early last season my dad was traversing some soft moguls when his uphill ski released randomly, and because he wasn't going fast he lost balance and the snow spun his uphill leg back which sent him falling into a twisting backward fall where his downhill ski never released, which broke his tib fib and ankle all at once. This was obviously a bummer because it ended his season in December, but out of curiosity I took in a pair of my skis as well as his to a local shop with an actual binding tested, Lone Pine Gear Exchange in SLC, and paid like $15 to have them checked out. His dins were set to 8 on Tyrollia attack 13 GW bindings, and both toe pieces and one heel tested correct, but his other heel-piece tested at a 6. The tech confirmed that the forward pressure was correct, and to get it to test at 8 they had to set the spring to a 10. This is probably exactly what caused his pre-release and leg breaking fall. I know I've heard of techs talking about Tyrollia springs going soft pretty often, but it sucks that nobody really knows until they either test it or learn it the hard way.

Take this as a precaution to get your bindings properly checked out every once in a while just to make sure they're doing what they're supposed to. Paying just a little bit each season for a binding check is a lot better than getting screws and plates in your legs.

I did this with some attacks recently. He told me “your toe spring was stiff but then softened out”. I think it’s just a good habit to check your stuff when it’s new or you’re questioning it

They are good bindings. I have ridden attach 16's for years at 12 din and they have treated me really well. Springs wear out after awhile, bindings go through a lot. You should check your dins on any binding that you entrust to hold you in a ski safely. There are a million threads about pivot rings cracking, Marker baseplates exploding ,etc. Every binding has its weakness's

I agree I think it is a great habit to test your bindings for peace of mind no matter what brand. They had to back off one of my STH2 13 forward pressure screws a turn or so from where it was for it to test within spec. At the end of the day it's just a bunch of springs holding you to your skis so it's worth making sure they do their job.

enjoy getting fucked in the ass every time u land a little backseat with those pivots dawg

tyrolia the best in the game

it is / should be common knowledge that bindings deteriorate the more u ski them, and that u should get em checked periodically, especially if its an older model like the 13's, and ur skiing park / hitting cliffs/jumps or what not. the more aggressive u ski, the quicker ur binding will deteriorate. makes sense right

idk bout yall, but the last thing i want to happen when mobbing 70-80 mph down a slope is for my binding to malfunction. get yo shit checked, at least once a year, depending on how u ski, maybe more. my homies work at a shop and run my shit for free, but most shops wont charge u more than 15$. its definitely worth it, bindings aren't something to fuck around with. i get my shit checked every time i come in for a tune. call me a paranoid, but when i patrolled i saw enough binding malfunctions to make me want my shit checked on the regular. if ur rocking older bindings i cant stress that enough.

sorry bout ur pops tho OP. that honestly sucks
