Get notified when someone quotes you in a thread..

havent seen anyone suggest this yet (for all i know this already exists and i just havent been quoted in a long time) and it just seems like something that ns should do
 
Why? NS doesn't really need notifications. Just stay up to date on your threads. This isn't Facebook.
 
And this has been suggested, same with notifications on getting media comments. Again, just stay on top of things, you're a skier, not a 15 year old girl that needs to know people have payed attention to her
 
what If there was an option so you could seleect which thread s you want to get notifications in, for instance, If you make an WTB threadm you can get notifs if you want, but if you dont, just tick a box and your good to not have them.
 
I did, but honestly I don't have time to go through every single thread that I post in, and neither do most people on this site
 
to add, I dont' think you should have to post in a thread to "follow" it to begin with. I think there should be a way to "subscribe" to a thread rather than posting threads like half the responses are.

And I am not a fan of the "Suscribe" idea either. Unless it's a little check box next to the Reply button. A constant window popping up and asking if you'd like to stay involved in this thread would be annoying.

If you don't care about the thread, then delete it out of your My Threads.

A notification system would get old and annoying really quickly.
 
i think you're missing the point. I don't go through all of them, but I'm sure there's plenty of times that people quote me and I would like to see what they say without having to go through everyone of "mythreads".

I'm certain if they made a subscribe option it wouldn't be a constant window popping up, that would just be stupid. Some just like a "+" to the left of the thread topic or something simple. I think this would be a much better option than having to reply to say "threads"

And if you're expecting to be quoted or are really interested in the thread discussion, focus on that thread then.

If you aren't, and you're just posting a thoughtless thought (commonly noticed in NSG), then don't check into that thread as much.

If I've posted in something, and nothing in the thread does anything towards it, and it's just going still, I tend to just delete it off of my watch.
 
I think it would be cooler if you got a notification when someone comments on your pics/vids.

I hate having to find them.
 
why not have a checkbox in your profile settings (like the fancy gui editor you can turn on/off) that if checked sends you a notification pm when you are quoted/your media has been rated/commented on. if unchecked, continue with your NS the way it is now.
 
I also think its a good idea, and it wouldn't be like facebook at all, you only get quoted 1-3 times a day, not like 10 notifications like facebook.
 
I don't understand the logic that NS shouldn't move toward Facebook. Like it or not, the Internet as a whole is moving toward Facebook. And Newschoolers lacks the social networking and sharing tools that companies like Facebook and Twitter excel with.

Here's what I'd do to integrate social networking more deeply into NS.

*Link your Facebook account with your NS account using Facebook Connect. The comments system for videos, photos, and news/blog articles would move gradually toward the Facebook system. When you make a comment/post a photo/post a video/etc. on NS (not Forum replies), that would show up automatically in your Facebook feed (with appropriate user settings, of course). The Forums would continue along as they are, account-wise.

*"Share" buttons everywhere. Threads, comments, photos, videos, blogs, etc. Click the button to effortlessly post the item to Facebook. With appropriate user settings, of course.

*Newschoolers Notifications. These don't have to be ridiculous. Include appropriate user settings allowing people to specify for what types of things they want to receive notifications. Give options for everything from Thread replies (perfect for B/S/T) to Video/Photo comments, to Event invites, "Friend" adds, to PMs. And you could go further if you wanted to. Adopt the Facebook model. That is, give people total control over what they receive notifications for. And don't give excess notifications. 30 replies to a thread? Not 30 notifications--one will suffice. This can be done pretty reasonably without being annoying or irritating.

To be honest, if you don't like Facebook, then you shouldn't like NS, because it is, at its core, a social networking site. Not to mention the Web is headed toward Facebook more broadly. Like it or not, it's a trend that NS is going to have to consider as it moves into this decade.

And with a new parent company, Notifications are no longer something totally out of reach or unrealistic. Make it happen.
 
Regardless, you can't deny that there is vast untapped potential here--specifically around sharing of Photos and Videos. And the current forum system has become somewhat antiquated.

What the fuck is up with people wanting to connect everything they do and say on the Internet around a single hub, and that hub being a network that is notorious for its very shitty privacy options and content ownership regulation?

Share, Like, sure, goes a long way, but fuck no to any FB Connect bullshit. NS Forums have been improving over the years, little by little to become a more flexible and user-friendly place while still retaining the NS feel and I hope they keep it that way.
 
There is a reason I don't have a facebook account. That shit is gay. Keep Facebook and all those social media sites off of ns. Ns is a forum, social media is the biggest waste of time ever. Nobody has ever had problems sharing content before. Fuck Facebook and all those sites. Nobody wants them on ns.
 
How about no. The ns layout has worked for years. I really enjoy it. I am a member of other forums mostly atv related and they all use the same bloody lay out and I am so happy that ns is different. There can be some sort of notifications that work in a positive way. But that isn't needed Te site works great the way it is.
 
Somebody suggested before that there should be just a check mark next to a thread in my threads if you were quoted in it since the last time you clicked on it. I thought it was a good idea. No notification messages or anything.
 
How about if you want to go on facebook go on facebook and if you want to go on ns go on ns. I dont want to taint my ns with the garbage my facebook has become bogged down with over the last 6 years. I honestly dont understand this stupid need to link everything with facebook. Newschoolers is not facebook and you know what? THATS OK. kids need to get their fb fix like junkies or something. "Like this on fb like me on fb" shut up. I dont care if youre liked on fb, youre annoying.

NS should be like fb, we can change the layout every six months as soon as you get used to it and every company in the world will ask you incessantly to 'like' them shamelessly in every ad or communication they ever produce. yeah totally i love it.

lol if i wasnt baked at the time i probably wouldnt have made this thread because i would have cared about all the people I knew who would immediately say we dont need another facebook etc. etc.. I'm not saying we need a new layout or a notification icon on our screen at all times, just that it'd be nice to know when ive been quoted in those threads I forget to check back on
