ok, but i haven't seen anything in any form of proposal that discusses HOW they will manage to use less water than a grass sports field. snowmaking takes a lot of fucking water, something the greater boise area is always very concerned with. the proposal calls for a 7 acre snowfield. you say they'll blow a large base- there goes 975,000 gallons of water, and keep in mind it'll be the end of summer by the time they get ready to blow. boise doesn't have a crazy big excess water supply.

even if they do manage to blow a solid base you still have to worry about the amount of water needed to maintain the park throughout the season. lips will get torn up, landings will get bombed out and the only way to fix it is with more snow. what happens when the city denies this park any more water usage?

i'm not saying this is a bad idea. i'm stoked to check it out. i'm just worried that they underestimate the amount of water they'll need for a full winter, a concern furthered by the fact that they haven't said exactly how they plan on minimalizing water usage
 
Planet has built parks all over the world & they have it figured out. The park they plan will use less water than 40 homes. This all came out at the city council meetings. The city of Eagle made Ryan jump through many hoops and give them detailed plans. He will purchase the water. In fact, Ryan Neptune is building the entire park on his dime, including fixing the now-almost unskatable skatepark.
 
Ryan Neptune's Gateway Park terrain park in Eagle, Idaho will use approximately the same amount of water as would 1.5 ball fields. The water study is in the proposal and concurs with this estimate.
 
Here's the back story. City approved it & they have a 99-year lease on the land from Ada County. County says a terrain park doesn't fit their "vision" for the area. (They were probably thinking baseball fields. So the county's putting up roadblocks. Hense, the new petition. Here's a new story on it.

Is this why county commissioners are blocking the terrain park? One is brother-in-law of Bogus CEO & another was Bogus president of the board for years. Bogus CEO has said he's not convinced that this park won't hurt Bogus. Bogus leaders need to realize that an urban terrain park will actually HELP them in the long run by creating more skiers/snowboarders who will get hooked on the sport & eventually make their way up the mountain. Vail realizes this & heavily supports the urban park in Denver. Bogus leaders who are opposed to this lack vision.

Almost every nay sayer was over 70 and lived on the same street, and they all complained about the noise or the lights which are both assured to not be a problem. Final verdict is going down tonight.

PLEASE pray for us to get this and save our town from old farts who dont want kids having fun around their sad pathetic little culdesac.
 
Yeah, Neptune said it is a miniature version of what he wants at the eagle sports complex, but he hasn't given up on the real deal.
 
FINALLY! The City of Eagle closed on the land for the terrain park today, so Ada County will no longer control anything that happens there. Ryan Neptune of Gateway Parks will start blowing snow as soon as temps drop below freezing this fall & will lay down a thick base that will last well into spring. The park will be bigger, steeper & better than the mini-park Gateway built at Eagle Island this winter. That park was really fun, but this one will have so much more! Thanks to all who signed the petition, showed up at the meetings, wrote letters, etc. You won! Urban terrain park coming to Eagle - "Ride where you reside." PS-They're also talking about summer stuff, like a wave pond for surfing or a cable wakeboard pond. Ryan will also resurface the skatepark to make it rideable. Thanks Ryan & Gateway Parks!

So now Eagle's getting 2 terrain parks next season! Thanks to all who signed the petition. Here's more details:

Eagle, Idaho will have 2 urban snow parks (terrain parks) this coming season, 1 at Eagle Island State Park focused on beginners & tubers and 1 for all levels (with small and larger features, mini-pipe, etc.). The pilot project at Eagle Island went so well, the state signed a 10-year agreement with Ryan Neptune of Gateway Parks (& Planet). And the city of Eagle bought the land from Ada County at the Ada-Eagle Sports Complex so the commissioners can no longer block or control that area at all. Neptune says, if weather conditions are normal this fall, he can begin making snow in October and be open by Thanksgiving. So…good news…a year later. Thanks to all who signed the petition to support urban terrain parks. "Ride where you reside."
