Georgian luger dies in crash at Whistler

I take your point on the experience thing, and granted it helps; but in a designed/closed course setting such as this, it is easy to have 'damage limitation' measures in palce by ensuring that the right protection is provided i.e. netting, higher walls, etc....

If it were big mountain skiing for example your only safety net is experience....but in closed course conditions such as this, the accident we saw should nedver of happened as it was preventable.

Yeah, sketchy stuff....you definately wanna get that right.

HOWEVER.......I don't think lading into an iron girder was quite the plan for this guy and im pretty sure its not even part of the sport!!

Not tryin to be a sicko, but does anyone know where to find the video?? I just wanna see how the crash went down. It seems like the video is deleted everywhere I look.

He came in way too high on a hard right hand turn, losing it he came down hard to the inside, he hit the right hand wall and it bounced him out the sled, he then hit the left wall high and got pitched over it....at speed.....sadly the support girders for the structure above were lining this straight stretch (within 2 foot of the track). It stopped him instantly....u can imagine the rest..

END.

I totally agree. That was so disrespectful. And its not like they only showed it once...they had it repeating for a while.

Lots of people on the news are blaming the canadians for not letting other countries use the tracks for practice. They said that the Canadians were selfish about usage of the tracks and other facilities before the Olympics began, this may have led to many athletes not being as prepared and having many accidents. Im not trying to say that this was a reason of the crash, but it may have been. Very terrible accident, the pictures of it make me sick.
