Yes, they have high taxes. But they also have better healthcare and education. I wouldnt mind paying high taxes if I was assured healthcare and state funded colleges that will let my children excel in the world. Obviously, you must not value those things for you or your future children.
Also, if you somehow havent noticed, the US economy is pretty much shit. The EU will take over as most powerful pact soon, and I doubt the US military will be able to compete with an alliance that has such a strong economy backing it. Basically, we're not going to be the strongest forever.
Thats the thing about nationalistic pride. Its great for rallies, but man, it blindsides those annoying statistical facts.
