Genius idea/Dumbass idea

So basically, I'm looking for a way to transport 2 sets of skis in one bag on one flight.

What I'm thinking of is taking off the bindings so I can stack the flat skis up on each other and save a whole load of space, and reattaching the bindings at the other end (where I will be until april).

Am I a total dumbass? or is this a good idea/people already do this?

Although I know about DINs, I don't know about mounting bindings so I guess I'll get them put back on by a tech, unless you guys reckon it's super easy and noting can go wrong.

Anything I haven't thought of?

(+k for useful responses)

Um unless your bag is for cross country skis you should be fine. Just put one in forwards and one in backwards you should be good

that COULD work... just like a snowboard. you will need to be very careful unscrewing your bindings, you can strp out the holes if your arnt careful.

also you will need to reglue the holes when you reinstall the bindings to keep moisture out.

it can def work, however i would never do that to my gear... unscrewing bindings from a wood core puts a lot of stress on the ski IMO

If you install inserts when you want to put the bindings back on it is no problem.. Plus after that you can do it whenever you want..

Why not just get a double ski bag? Fits two pairs of skis, along with everything else. If you take off the bindings, they have to be remounted, and I think that requires a new tread lock, unless you have something like Killer Quiver Inserts, you're not going to want to take off your bindings.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

My bag is a double, but this time I need to fit all (as in ALL!) my gear in it, boots helmet clothes (for on and off the hill), teaching materials (supposedly I'm here teaching in a school, not skiing!) etc etc.

I'll try forwards/backwards/every which way and only do this as a last resort and if I have to I'll be dead careful. coils, regluing, whatever necessary.

Thanks again y'all

take you boots/helmet in a carryon and pay to check another bag for the other shit. sounds like you'll be out there a long time so the extra you pay to check another bag would b emoney well spent

you could put the skis in the bag and just wear your gear on the plane. haha

but on the real, i would not take the bindings off.

It's fine to take the bindings off and put them back on as long as you're careful not to strip the holes. If the holes do get stripped, you would need the stripped hole heli coiled and then you are ready to party. Make sure when you screw the binding back in you put a dab of wood glue in each hole. the only purpose of this is to make a seal and keep water from damaging your core. glue does NOT hold the binding to the ski. good luck - sounds like you're going on a fun trip

I think you should do that, but have someone reattach them who knows what they are doing. Great idea in my opinion
