Sweetcoz, yah, I see what you're saying. There are very small things like that. Take chicken for example. Given growth hormones to make them grow to maturity. That's been done ever since chickens have been farmed for commercial use. It's all about small manipulations to something to change it for our use.
Personally I don't see what the big fuss is about. If it makes it tastier, more of it and healthier then who cares, good stuff. When you start getting into super-diseases and anti-biotics, now that is some scary shiz.
As human beings, every single bloody thing we do is aimed at making our own stupid lives easier. If you think about, absolutley every task over the last couple hundred years has had the purpose of making our lives more luxourious and comfortable. I think we should all get off our freakin' lazy asses really. Think back to the days of settlers and colonies etc. They knew what hard-work and labour was. Starting from scratch, spending all day, dusk to dawn, doing the things to keep them alive. Building shelter, harvesting food, protecting the community from preditors. They knew what hard work was, I think we've lost that. Slightly off the topic but think about it.
