Generic Camera Help Thread

Alright, so I decided I wanted to do a bunch of photography courses at my school this year, as there is some pretty sweet stuff offered, and we have our own dark room. However, I knew my little sony cybershot point and shoot just wouldn't cut it. SO I went to check out my parents' new camera, and found this old pentax film SLR from way back in the day.

That will basically tell you everything about it.

It needs some minor repairs (some lens/mirror alignment thing) as of right now, but its in good shape otherwise. Found it with a pentax 35-80mm lens and a 55mm lens.

Obviously I would have to shoot film, but I can live with that.

Basically just looking for thoughts/comparisons, what it would cost to get an equivalent DSLR, if its even worth using anymore etc...

Any information on using film would be much appreciated too.

that's actually a great camera to use! film is often preferred if people have the time, the con of it is the time usage that is needed. it will mostly produce a better result though and many people like it. it will also make you think your shots out more since you only have 24 or 36 exposures as opposed to 1000's on a digital. it's great for practicing with in other words.

I use a pentax ME super, and it really produces great pictures. Here's one i took with it + a 50mm F2. You can see how vibrant the colors are without any photoshop or anything. I love it.

BTW, it's hard to say what a comparable dslr would cost you, but for a beginner DSLR, it will run you about 500-1000 to get started.
