Having grown up in the early 90's rave scene, I feel this is a good watch for anybody that's currently into dance music culture /djing etc.

Enjoy

Damn, I'll for sure have to check this out.

In a lot of ways I wish I was there for the 90s underground scene...

I first got into "EDM" around freshman years of highschool 07'08 ish, fuck the scene has changed so much in those short years, it's gotta be weird for really old school ravers to look back.

Its funny. I see the momentum but the quality factor these days runs low. Our generation prided itself on the craft of raw dj talent and the majority of drugs were absolutely amazing. Until ketamine arrived. What you're witnessing now is the first wave has settled. The next wave will be different but still fun. Keep to your roots and moderation is key for long term survival in this scene.

I wasn't involved in it but read a lot about it. Got pretty into listening to and making electronic shit around 03 but and checked out a bunch of stuff on the 90s rave scene. A year or so ago watched limelight on peter gatien. That was pretty sweet. The "rave" scene now is so polluted. The music, the culture and how intertwined it is with social media, also everyone getting down on sketchy ass research chemicals.

I'm not saying that it seemed nice and safe or classy in the 90s but there was something to it. To me it's trying way to hard now.

I get everything you're saying and for the most part I agree with it, but I can't help but feel like there are still bastions of hope out there pushing the "scene".

I feel like it's so polluted that it has to completely die and then come back. Yeah there is still some good stuff out there but the whole thing is just fucked. After this stupid boom idk if it can ever go back to the way it was. That said hopefully some people are partying in a warehouse somewhere in the world not giving a fuck about the scene

It will go through cycles and changes, after ketamine came around heavy, around 1998 there was a ton of busts in the scene. Lots of people got popped and there was a gang from Brooklyn that was called bts born to steal, that ripped off dealers by the hundreds, the scene folded and EVERYONE i knew completely stopped going to raves. This led to the great rave depression of the early 00"s
