General NZ skiing info

So I've been in Wellington since the beginning of February, but my dad is flying to Christchurch July 11 and out of Auckland July 27. We plan on getting either a camper or rent a car to get around. If you were trying to see most of New Zealand in 16 days, what would you see? We want to do some skiing, but don't know how expensive single day tickets are, probably just 4 or 5 days of skiing, but hitting multiple areas would be cool.

What's the deal with the club fields? Are there any sort of passes that are good for a lot of places that we could buy now for cheaper? How are the rentals (doubt he can bring two sets of skis/boots in luggage)?

Interested in seeing stuff outside of skiing too so all suggestions would be cool.

After Auckland I will probably move to a smaller town (maybe ski town) that we visit in the two weeks to stay in till February when my visa is up.

The nz super pass is good, gives you options for 8 ski fields i think, for doing touristy things were you thinking north or south island?

A CHILL pass or one pass sounds like what you need.

Chill is great for the clubbies.

I wrote a good post about it here

The OnePass is good if you're really serious about doing the touristy thing.

I have a CHILL pass which gives access to 11 smaller commercial and club fields, but it is pretty expensive. You can get 3, 5 or 10 day passes which are really good value or full season passes which are up to $1000.

Also pick up the latest NZSkier mag. Hit the shelves yesterday.

drive down the west coast of the south island!

best decision we made driving from auckland to wanaka, check out the franz josef glacier as well while your heading that way

it was way back up the valley though, the pictures showed it right down on to the flat and it was way off

kinda sad to see that :(

snowpark on opening day?

Nah, too far to drive. Going to hit up either Porters or Hutt for opening day. Not sure yet though cause the nor wester just raped the snow pack. There's a few patches around still but nothing much. What's it like down south atm?

we had rain one day which destroyed snow lower down, followed by a day of snow which gave cardies around 8cm i think

heard someone at the supermarket saying snow park were turning the guns on in the next week to guarantee opening day

So gutted that wanaka only got like 10cm. But im amazed at the amount that has fallen at hutt, looks so good!

Hearing through the grapevine that craigie and temple got over 120... I'll go for a hike this weekend and sample the pow for ya!
