Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has resigned, citing "extremely poor judgment" for having an extramarital affair, NBC News reported.

"Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position," Petraeus said in a letter to CIA colleagues. "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours."

"This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation," Petraeus said in the letter.

Kind of odd. Unless it comes out that the affair was with another staff member. I mean affairs are wrong, but just because you cant keep it in your pants doesnt mean you cant run the CIA.

THIS IS A COVER UP

Petraeus was supposed to testify about the CIA's involvement and mismanagement of the Benghazi crisis...

Isn't it a bit odd he resigns a week before he has to testify?

inb4 its a conspiracy... but still, the timing is quite odd. I liked Petraus, hell of a general, did wonders in Iraq and Afghanistan too. very bummed out, but perhaps there is more beneath the surface on this Benghazi issue.

interesting, i think i get it now. Its Obamas fault that ambassador and all those marines died. Oh wait we already knew that.

....

you do realize you can still testify because he was director when Benghazi happened....

He probably felt that the crazy emotions he's probably feeling right now compromised his ability to be effective in one of the most important jobs in the country.

You need to turn off Fox News. He was acting director during Benghazi, his resignation has exactly zero impact on his ability to testify infront of Congress. You can't have a cover up or conspiracy if the guy still has to testify.

If you read credible news sources, you would know that his affair was with a biographer, who was being investigated by the FBI, because she had access to sensitive information through his emails, phone and personal communication. Basically, he completely fucked up and potentially compromised national security - which is exactly why he resigned.

Apparently he was spying between the sheets.

Newsweek ran a profile on him last week and one of the quotes was something about everyone makes mistakes and needs to learn from them. Hindsight.
