Gear Swap...Love and Hate

nothanks

Hey, I know you're going to get so many requests and changes and such...but....Just a list of things I think, and other will add with comments, on the sick new gear swap.

Love the idea, great to have its own marketplace and get it out of Ski Equipment.

But some questions/comments:

Why no PayPal/GBuy(google's new PayPal alternative)(so many of us use it as alternatives to credit cards)

Can you make the header the same as the NS one...night a color-gradient-small picture on the right

Who's the person/site/company(GearTrade?) selling all of this gear already posted there? GearSwap? I'm confused, a lot of it dosen't really fit our..."market" and just wondering how/why it's there.

Are you going to allow anymore selling in Ski Equipment anymore? Or delete the threads, and tell members to start using GearSwap only? I'm a little hesitant to start using it with no PayPal.

And...I think that about covers it.

P.S. REGISTER! AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN NS USERNAME! DON'T STEAL OTHER MEMBER'S USERNAMES! IT'S DIRTY AND WILL CONFUSE PEOPLE!

Oh P.S.S.

Are you going to show who the seller is? Now that I've found some stuff not for sale through that company or whatever...it's still not showing the seller name/info. Can we get that too? For the company and for the users?

I revoke that statement, after further review I see seller name/info/rating/shipping costs etc etc...Great.

Still....those other questions please...

Hey Guys,

I'm asking Rob our main man at GearTrade to come on and introduce himself and let you know more about the service, so stay tuned for that. Basically we saw a need for a more secure way to deal with all of the transactions that go down on NS. I've had far too many messages from members getting ripped off with no available course of action to take to resolve issue. The Gear Swap allows us to offer true customer service to make sure that if you did have hesitations about buying something online, you now have a real system to work with.

Of course everyone can still buy and sell the as they please without it, but we thought this may appeal to a large number of users. Plus it looks a lot prettier than our classifieds section :)

Regarding the header, it's going to be updated so don't worry.

Thanks duder's. Excited for him to come here.

Maybe we should sticky this for...uh....orginizational purposes and clutter-free questions...as said by JibRemix...right. uhh...yah. So sticky.

the gearswap is pretty useless, only people in teh states can use it. If you live in Canada or international you cant buy or sell gear on it.

I don't thinnk thats right...in in the states so didn't try it on registration...but NS is based in Montreal and I don't think they'd leave out everywhere but the states like that...

I remember seeing a checkbox if you were from outside of the states...and then a drop down box....Best I can tell yah.

Hi,

This is Rob from GearTrade.com. Sorry for the delay in reponse....I just got an email from Chris that the new site went live.

Taylor,

Thanks for your feedback....all feedback from the community is much appreciated in helping to make the Gear Swap better.

Here are some answers to your questions:

Sorry about the header, we created this prior to the new design and a new header matching newschoolers should be live shortly. Also, international trading should go live in a few weeks.....sorry about that guys......the project was a little more difficult than expected, but we didn't forget about you. Thanks for understanding. As soon as it goes live, I will drop a line on the board.

As far as paypal goes, that is on the list as well, but it might be a while before we can accept this. However, we take all major credit cards and the site is completely secure.

One of the best things about GearTrade is that all sellers are guaranteed payment.....you'll never get burned on a sale. We verify and collect the payment from the buyer, so sellers will always get their money.

As far as registration goes, we really wanted to integrate your current usernames on newschoolers, but a lot of your names were already registered on GearTrade....this makes it impossible to cross this over. But, it only takes a minute to register, it's free and we don't ask for any credit card info like ebay.

How it all works?

First, you guys can still buy and sell gear on the forum.....this is just a new feature to the website that is a little more organized, safer and has a ton of good deals.

I totally respect the community, and we would never take this away from you.

So listing gear on the swap is Free. You can list as much stuff as you want. You can list as many pictures as you wish. It's all free.

If you do sell some gear, there is a flat 10% fee for the service.

Once you ship the order and enter the tracking number, we'll send a check out to you shortly.

As far as buying gear, anyone can register in a minute and purchase gear with any major credit card.

I'm sure you guys will have more questions, so drop me a line anytime. Have a good one. rreinfurt@geartrade.com

Talk to you soon,

Rob Reinfurt

Good to hear Rob. Once that PayPal thing gets up and running(lot of people, espically these days, regardless of security, are weary of credit card use) it will be perfect. Love the addition.

Andrew,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by adding a photo/video section.....bu there is a section entitled "media" where you can post ski videos for sale and such.

Sorry if that doesn't answer your question.

As far as product conditions goes, the seller should want to tell the truth so they have a good standing on the site. If a seller lies, they will most likely get bad feedback and will not be able to sell on the site. If I receive multiple comments on a particular seller, I will suspend their account.

However, if you a buy an item and it is misrepresented, you can return that item. It's in our policy. Check this link out: http://swap.newschoolers.com/helpdesk/

It should clarify some of these questions for ya.

have a good one,

rob

i couldnt use my ns name there cause mines only 4 letters. that kinda bummed me out but im over it. i love this thing theres sooooo much shit in it its great.

Andrew,

That's a great idea.....i'll run it by the powers that be and see if we can add some new categories for video/camera gear.

Snoopy,

Sorry about the canadian thing....my IT guy says we should have international trading on board in 2-3 weeks.

As far as the 10% goes, 3% goes to the credit card people, 3% goes to newschoolers so they can keep on offering you guys a sweet resource and the remaning 4% goes to running GearTrade. In this situation, were actually losing money, but we love the idea of having our service on your site.....so this is really not about the money for us.

i'll be back on the board manana.....have a good night.

-Rob

Phil,

Good question. Since we are in charge of collecting and disbursing the payment, we can always go back and credit your card if there is ever a problem.

Basically, if an item is misrepresented in anyway, the seller is obligated to accept the return. In your case, you're not sure whether or not the seller is legit, and there is a lack of pics and info on the item. Just email me your username and the item # you are wondering about. I'll call the seller personally and get more details for ya. You can send all requests to gearheads@geartrade.com.

As far as shipping damages, we encourage all sellers to get insurance so you're protected...otherwise we handle this on a case by case basis.

That is the best thing about GearTrade, we mediate all the customer service between the buyer and seller. I always make sure everyone is taken care of.

Have a good weekend,

Rob

couldn't we just see some stuff we want to buy, contact the seller, and then get the seller to sell through ebay, that way we don't have to pay 10% and no one gets burned?

eBay costs money, PayPal sometimes has fees, and plenty of people can get burned via eBay and sister company PayPal.

Steeze,

Sorry about the no canadian thing, but if you have a US address you can ship to, we can set it up for you. Otherwise, were only a few weeks out from accepting international trading. Simply sign up with the US address, and email me when you're ready to buy. I will manually put through your credit card, so the order goes through. When you're ready here is the email: gearheads@geartrade.com

Have a good week,

Rob

Just wondering.....the first few days a lot of people were signing up for the Ski Swap. I have noticed that in the past few days there hasn't been many new users.

Do you think a lot of the users know about the new swap or do you think the people are having a hard time noticing or finding the link?

Thanks,

Rob

i dont know if this has been addressed already, but this is my major turn off...does NS see any of this? isnt it a little steep? maybe it hsould be halved..

Can I sign up right now if I am a Canadian or do I have to wait until Canadians can use to buy and sell?

i'll just keep selling my stuff the way i have been. my buyers have always been happy, and there is no rediculous 10% commission.

Skully,

check your email, there should be an email from GearTrade. You can validate your account right from there. We just want to make sure other people are not signing you up for this service. It just makes things more secure for you. If you have any questions, shoot an email to gearheads@geartrade.com

Thanks,

Rob

Since the news article is up, you'll get more. But a lot of people overlook it because it's tucked off in the corner. Make it a quick link on the right hand toolbar righy under Cult Foruns>My Threads>GearSwap.

Taylor,

Thanks for the advice. I spoke with Chris (cko) and were going to make a few of these changes so the swap is more visible. Thanks again and enjoy the weekend.

-Rob

Giving it it's own menu bar, or putting it under Resources(3rd choice) or Interact(second choice next to the own menu bar) would be a good thing too.
