Gear rumours 20/21

I'm guessing that is not the whole catalog though missing a lot of different models.

I found every model represented from last year, except the Invictus series which is replaced by the Declivity series?

It’s a Sakana without a swallow

As soon as I saw the catalogue and the dimensions that’s exactly what I thought. Told the rep that and he’s like “dammmmmn you’re right!” Haha

It’s not really. It’s got a pretty different profile with a lot more tail rise and it has a metal mesh laminate thing so it’s got a very different flex to the Samana. It’s actually very unique and not like anything I can really compare it to.

it would ski very different than a Sakana, much looser.

It's about time Volkl got some sense in the graphics department again. It has been years since Volkl has had good graphics.

Yes obviously it’s not going to be the same haha. I was being facetious.

Okay so if tried to post the Armada 2021 catalog 2 times, and both times my posts got removed... Whatever is going on with newschoolers, it's disappointing... The link where I got the files from is also gone, so if you want the file, message me (until my account is gone heh mods?).

Just proves how much this site has become a commercial shithole.

I do have to say that censoring the hype is pretty lame.

Still, I’ll come back, every time.

And yes I do understand that pissing off companies is a bad idea

Been a life long Armada fan, yet this kind of behaviour scares the shit out of me. Sorry that I tried to find out beforehand if you didn't change anything about your ski for next season, so I can plan what I buy over the summer... Sue me Armada, sorry you are not the company you were before JP passed.

This happens with Armada every year. They never want next years stuff to be seen till after all the shows.

If you don't want it to be seen, stop asking your athletes to wear it. It's retarded.

I really don't understand how a company protecting their IP until they are comfortable releasing it is being perceived as a douchey move.

Anyone who has access to a catalog before the information it contains is public is expected to be discrete. It's entirely within a company's rights to police those sorts of leaks. It's not censorship, it's not a violation of free speech, it's not an indicator that NS is "sold out." It's basic business practice.

There are plenty of reasons not to want that info out there yet. For one, it can slow down sales of current model skis through dealer networks which means your local shop gets screwed. For another, for brands like Armada that are owned by larger companies, it's not just their tech in that catalog, Amer's binding tech applies to Armada, Solly, and Atomic. It's not just their info about potential new products in there.

So yeah, it's fun when there are "leaked" catalogs, and it's always fun to speculate on next year's stuff. But you can't be butt hurt when a company tries to actually keep stuff under wraps that some idiot rep leaked to some kid.

If you don't think you're doing something questionable posting that catalog, then why did you make a new account to post it? Did Armada give it to you telling you to spray it across the internet? I'd be surprised, especially given the maturity reflected in your language choices.

Okay look mr. 2 day member, it’s pretty conceivable that a brand doesn’t want all their details shared before trade shows. What if that info goes further into the public? Then what could have been a sale on this years ski turns into next years ski. Obviously that’s going to the extreme but it’s how a company has to think.

edit to add: stop blaming armada personally for deleting the posts, as it probably isn’t them. Any new catalogues for next years product would likely to be deleted. screenshots of insta stories and so on are completely different than fine details in a catalogue.

If brands don’t want information leaking out so early maybe they should stop trying to push the sales calendar to the left every year.

Brands show their line and catalog to thousands of young underpaid shop employees, athletes, and media types earlier and earlier each year, and then get pissed when shit leaks earlier and earlier each year...

At least crack open an NDA or two and get some ink wet.

I couldn't access my original account which posted the files twice, that's why... So sorry I'm just 2 days old, I just wanted to share some informati...

excuse me:

Exclusive "IP".

To emphasize: I'm not expected to be discrete, since I found this information by a basic Google search. I have literally no links in the industry!

And English is my 4th language, sorry if my choice of words threw you off.

And don't blame me when the "IP" is accessible on some Spanish PDF site, and certainly don't try to blame me for spreading info and this site then deleting it twice before giving some feedback why. You could have given this speech the first time around.

If you don't want this information to be found on a 2021 gear forum; don't share 2021 gear PDF's on public sites!

And this concludes my 2021 ski business conference talk, see you next time folks!

The basic business practice is to police this in-house. Once the cat has left the bag the cat is out.

Is it just me or does armada have a shit ton of overlap in their jibby pow skis? Now they have the arg 2, the magic j, the arv 116 normal and ultralight, and now sammys ski. Both arvs and the whitewalker are around the same width underfoot and the only difference I can really see between the whitewalker and ultralight is the pointy tip and a race base. I dunno seems like they could get rid of the magic j (sorry T-hall but you don’t even ski that ski anymore) and maybe the ultralight since the whitewalker is probably just a better version...?

I see what your saying, but the whitewalker just seems like a much better JJ UL. At least the arg 2 and the magic j are somewhat different.

Also, unrelated to your comment but maybe someone on here has an explanation. why did they put the ar50 construction on the arg 2? Seems like that construction is being phased out of the line, so why bring it back in their most expensive ski?

I have a few ideas about the AR50 sidewall on the ARG, and I think it makes sense. First off, that ski is absurdly heavy. Going with more sidewall (which would potentially mean a slightly thicker core profile and more ABS) would make it even heavier. In hand, they actually don't feel all that heavy, which I think is mostly due to the taper but also maybe the thinning of the core and lack of heavier sidewall material in the cap portions.

The underfoot sidewall portion of the ARG is also incredibly stiff, and I feel like you wouldn't really want that sort of ski to be super stiff throughout more of its length (though the flex obviously could be tweaked by changing the core profile).

Probably most importantly, with an ultra surfy, pow-specific ski, I feel like the sidewall is way less necessary than it would be on a ski you'd use on firm snow where you want more strength and power transfer to your edges. This is all just conjecture (haven't skied them), but I don't think the short sidewall is a big deal on a ski like the ARG II.

Yep, 15s, and they’ll come in gold (and other colors, I just forget which ones) and they’ll be identical to 18s except the din. And they’ll be 399.99 ? but I’m hyped

What din range will 15s have?

Looks like a revised current black ops 98

Playing detective here- unless they are changing the tail shape and lowering the tail splay to a semi twin tail, I don’t think that’s the new Black Ops 98. Saw this on Teton Gravity about a new line from Rossignol replacing the 7 series.

“Rossignol 7 series is gone, revamped as black ops line. 108/102/96 in a TI and non TI. Called the black ops sender.”

So maybe the 96 Black Ops Sender pictured?

Tail looks similar to the Sky 7? ?‍♂️

Correct, this is not a new Black Ops. HOWEVER, I heard from a reputable source that the Black Ops line is going to receive a lot of love for next season, with a big expansion. They will be keeping the 98 and the 118, and adding a ~90mm waisted ski and a ~105 waisted ski. Get hype!

In that quote it says there’s a 108mm, 102mm and 96mm coming in a regular and Ti versions coming from Rossignol.

Correct, that is the replacement for the 7 series, which will be blended in and added to the Black Ops line. The way they’re doing things is strange but basically, there will be one line that includes the familiar 98 and 118, as well as the 108/102/96 Ti and non-Ti skis that will replace the 7 series and be added to the Black Ops series

7 series going away, we can all finally rejoice! Hahah

thank god

Not a fan of the 7 series but I'm intrigued to see where this is all going. For example, I wouldn't recommend a BO 118 or 98 to many intermediate skiers so where does the new Black Ops lineup fit their customer base in? Is it going to come down to TI vs non-TI? Because I don't really want a shorter radius Soul 7 shape as a freeride ski.
