gay marriage is fine with me. I think people like that deserve not only the benefits that married couples but, but also deserve teh institue of marriage as well.... bush is a moron who is overly religious.

in another note, religion is the biggest killer in the history of man kind. Disagree? look back at all the worst mass killings. Holocaust, crusades, conquering of other civilizations... yup, relgion is bad and there's no way around it. I really like south parks take on it, and how they stated it as being 'a good idea gone bad'. religions basic beliefs are great to folow, but when yo spend your life studying it, or take it to seriously, or even try to install your beliefs on others, it's bad.

who really cares? If you see two gay guys on the street, does it make a difference to you if they are boyfriend and boyfriend vs. husband and husband? let them do whatever they want.

in my opinion bush finally sealed his fate as a one-term president.

as for gay marriages, i think yah, they should be allowed to have that right, they're human beings and are entitled to their rights just as much as a heterosexual person.

and for the previous comment on Bush being overly religious? i think that he is just using religion as an excuse to ban gay marriages. he's probably just a big homophobe. also its a political ploy trying to get all the christians on his side for the upcoming election

But anyway, im against it for now because I still don't see how 2 gay activist judges decide its ok, they believe they have the jurresdiction do grant them. When it is against local, county, state, and federal law. It is against anything ever written law wise. Thats just like giving people free rights out of jail just because they believe murder is ok, and that it shall be ok from now on with the rest of the country. And as for america as a whole. its has been voted for time and time again, and its still hasn't passed so doesn't that tell you something about what america thinks as a whole?

the whole plan to make a constitutional ammendment is just a big political plot to cause lots of public interest. if gay marriages are made legal, its not like millions of people are going to turn gay all of a sudden. they'll just get some civil rights that unmarried couples dont get. and if gay marriages are banned, nothing changes at all. people will still be gay even if they cant get married.

so why is this such a big deal? i think bush just wants to get people to forget about all the bad shit he's done so he can get reelected by portraying himself as the savior of marriage.

I've said it before, and I'll say it now: If gays and lesbians want to be able to join the crumbling institution of marriage(approx. 50% of new marriages fail, AKA divorce) and be as unhappy as most straight couples are, who am I to go against their wishes?

Seriously, face it, it's a legal issue involving certain rights and privileges that you can only get when married. If they wanna get married, and have their romantic relationships legitimized into real legal unions that involve ALL the benefits of marriage, I say let them.

my personal opinion is that homosexuality is just plain wrong, but obviously that doesn't take legal precedent. in terms of the legality of the issue, i'd say they don't deserve to be married legally. the government cannot acknowledge that the relationship between a man and woman is the same as that between a man and man/woman and woman. it just isn't. the simple truth is, they can't be married because the love (if it is love) that they share isn't right. so no, they should not be wed under consent of the government.

in addition, the gay community, which never fails to be annoying as hell, has gone ahead and ignored the constituitons of states. they have proven to be unlawful in california, where the mayor ignored the state constitution and married people anyway. not only are these marriages null and viod because he did not have the juristiction to do that, but they therefore don't deserve the consent of the law that they have previously broken.

finally, the aspect of gay marriage that is most awful is the adoption of children by gay couples. this is not fair to the child. regardless of the caliber of parents that the couple would make, the fact that there would be a lack of either a father or mother figure permanently from the child's life would be emotionally scarring on the child. in addition, after growing up in a gay household and then going out into the world and finding out the way society views gay people, the child would be at a disadvantage amongst other, normally-raised children.

^I don't get angry at those kind of views, but I am consistently shocked that people can still have them, just as I would be if someone told me blacky should be hanged. But do you really think you have an unbiased opinion that should be considered on this issue? If you hate homosexuality, or think it's immoral (first of all, give a good reason why), you're not someone who should be consulted on this point. That isn't to say the only people who should be listened to are pro-marriage, only that those who aren't prejudiced. There's a problem when prejudice can have this kind of influence on legal decisions.

Marriage in a legal sense is something that any couple that feels that strongly about, should be entitled to. Who are we to pick and choose who can marry and who cannot.

It's almost as bad as saying, 'a black person cannot marry a white person' because at one time it wasn't publically accepted.

^I tried that one already (albeit not in so many words...calm down ;) ), in the Dragon's Lair, the cult full of intelligent people, and the best answer I got was that ''The bible says it is, and many cultures have accepted that.'' Which is one of the weakest arguments I can think of. Even if we were going to accept the bible as a sound source of moral evidence (yeah, sure, let's try to interpret that thing literally now), explain the fact that polygamy is promoted in the old testament (see Solomon's 200 wives). Marraige wasn't even a sacrament until the 12th century; before that, it was under the control of local government. The whole issue is founded on ignorant and closed-minded people. The only effective argument I've heard about it is that it's illegal (as skiinstead points out), according to US law. Of course, it's possible that the law is wrong (and in this case, given its archaic and discriminatory disposition, I'd submit that it is), but you still can't just circumvent the law because you don't like it. Hopefully, someone will see the light of reason and change it, but until then, skiinstead is dead on.

I agree with bigsky_girl (sorry if spelt wrong) and J.D. Love does not have laws saying it can only be shared by a man and woman, or anything else like that. Love is open to everyone so why can't some people legalize their love with marriage? Even if it is man & man/woman & woman. I find people that think just because they can't reproduce that means they aren't allowed to marry.. what about people that are sterile or cannot have children because of some reason. Does that mean they can't get married too? They can and they have.

 
The only point I was trying to make is that gayness wasn't meant to be because it wouldnt sustain the human race. thats the simplist most valid pount against it. and yeah i guess we were never meant to have butt sex with girls. If there is a god then I guess he had a design that must have had a few bugs. Personally I can tolerate gays, if one of my good friends turned gay I wouldnt disown him, and of course gay marriages are a legal issue. But whatever, It probably doesn't affect any of us so maybe we should just leave it be.

I don't see any reason to make gay marriages illegal. If the bible says it's wrong then a priest doesn't have to marry them. If it's just a legal union I don't see any problem with it. Married people have to pay more taxes anyway so if they want to add more money to the government then let them.

I doubt the amendment will go through. We have 27 amendments and i think 33 have had chances to be ratified and something like 10,000 tries to make amendments so it won't happen.

Marriage is not just a religious act, it is legal too. The state, or “man,” should have no say in the religious part. If certain religions don’t want to marry gays, fine that is their right, but that does not mean the state should ban them all. Let’s look at the most common arguments:

1) “It goes against ‘God’ and reproduction.” Seems many of God’s high up servants like little boys, there seems to be a paradox there. We have a problem with overpopulation, less babies seems like a good idea to me. Besides, it will leave more women free for all you “ladies men.”

2) “It will ruin the institution of marriage.” Then you better ban Brittany Spears, hell ban Vegas marriages altogether. If the country or religious figures was doing something about the divorce rate in this country, then that argument would hold, but they aren’t, so it don’t.

3) “It’s just wrong.” I don’t drink, maybe that should be banned too. I think that mullets are wrong, let’s make an anti-mullet amendment too. You ever heard the song “Short People?” It think we should ban them too cause the song has some valid points. There are a lot of things that a lot of people don’t like that happen here legally, and that is what makes this country great. If you don’t like it, lump it. If you don’t like seeing it, did you ever think if they didn’t have anything to protest against, they might just go home and you wouldn’t have to see them “prance around.”

The constitution was not meant to take away rights, but that seems to be the direction we are headed in. May the RIAA get all you who agree with the bible thumpers since you like big government so much.

By the way, I generally vote republican because I am a fan of small government.
