Which is one of the weakest arguments I can think of. Even if we were going to accept the bible as a sound source of moral evidence (yeah, sure, let's try to interpret that thing literally now), explain the fact that polygamy is promoted in the old testament (see Solomon's 200 wives). Marraige wasn't even a sacrament until the 12th century; before that, it was under the control of local government. The whole issue is founded on ignorant and closed-minded people. The only effective argument I've heard about it is that it's illegal (as skiinstead points out), according to US law. Of course, it's possible that the law is wrong (and in this case, given its archaic and discriminatory disposition, I'd submit that it is), but you still can't just circumvent the law because you don't like it. Hopefully, someone will see the light of reason and change it, but until then, skiinstead is dead on.
