Gay marriages?

^ he has a point, you dont have to belive in what he is saying, but as long as he isnt flaming your way of life you should respect it

way to completely miss the point of my post.

all i said was that his reasoning that "there are lots of other gay haters so its okay to be one" doesnt make any sense. there are tons of racists, does that make IT okay? the answer is no. clear enough for you?

and dont call me a fucking retard. you obviously have your head up your ass if you have a problem with gay marriage.

only insecure simpletons oppose gay marriage -

only small minded homophobes oppose gay marriage -

only poor white trash/right-wing nuts and brain washed simpletons honestly believe that granting the right for two people to enjoy the bonds of marriage does anything to hurt their way of life

These same idiots (the ones on this very board) are so clueless that they are against gay marriage yet do not bitch about divorce...

what is marriage anyway - and where does it say that it is between a man and a women

and as always, the ones who yell the loudest have the most to hide - royale, whatchu got hiding in your closet??

I think religion is just one giant excuse for people to "unify" and frown upon others who are "less superior." I think gays should have just as many rights as heterosexuals. They're just trying to show their emotions, and there's nothing wrong with that.

thank you. i usually dislike "hating" on people and try to stay as open minded as possible, but telling me something like that if I don't believe i will be unhappy is ridiculous.

right on, it is really too bad there is such a rejection of anything progressive in this country, were free... as long as you do/follow what everyone else does, if not you end up a second class citizen or in prison.

gays are here always have been always will be, eventaully society will come around (see other bs racist issues) but untill then we suffer at the hands of the "religious right" a bunch of crazy hatefull people too busy looking down on people and looking up into their salvation to ever do anthing to help whats in front of them.

you know i dont mean miserable all the time but like what happens when your parents pass away? You get diagnosed with cancer, serious car accident, etc. Where you going to turn? Where you going to turn on your deathbed, the wall?

i've been through more shit than you can possibly imagine. you just learn to deal with it. period.

and yes, if necessary, i could find a way to seek comfort in a wall. like i said, you deal w/ what you got.

all right man i feel ya, i know theres no changing your mind but just know god will always be there for you. LMAO i feel like one of those door to door jehova witnesses. I'm roman catholic though just stating my opinion i guess.

Exactly. Instead of looking to a higher power, look inside yourself and get your own strength to overcome your problems instead of having Deus Ex solve all. Its better to know yourself than to know a supernatural omnipotent being... at least in this life.

I think I get it.

Most christians dont think that gays should marry. But that is from their perspective, and their 'living world'. And that probably means that the preists and their boy toys cannot get married. And from that perspective I can totally see the no gay wedding argument.

But on the other hand, there is no real reason gays can't get married. Just because a religion took the sole right on a custom does not mean non religions cannot use the same custom and make it their own. Especially in a civilization where many different religions live side by side. Like already said before: should atheist not allowed to get married too? No, because it is a custom of our civilization, and just because christians and muslims give their own meanings and interpretations to the thing, does not mean they have dibs on it.

So to top i all off, everybody is a little right, right?

Now let's kill Saddam!!

God damnit, you pop up in these threads all the time.

One way to see it, the world has imbalances. Homosexuality may have little to do with genes, but still involves biological differences. Say you take too much of a drug, you could overdose and die. If you are exposed to extreme amounts of radiation (practically any kind) you can get side effects, such as cancer. If you eat healthy foods while you're pregnant, generally, it is healthier for the fetus as well. Have a wicked pituiatary gland? Who knows, you might grow to be 7ft tall.

Now imagine, while a fetus is maturing in the womb, there is an imbalance in horomones, say too much estrogen in a developing boy. Not much, but an imbalance no less. As the child devlops in the womb, this horomone imbalance could cause changes in the fetus, perhaps altering the devlopment of the hypothalamus. This could seriously affect the life of that child. Although still fuzzy, this is very plausable, and the hypothalamus could be largely responsible. You could duplicate it in animals. Nature vs. Nuture is fucking powerful, but usually, Nature wins (so you could try to raise a girl a boy, but that girl may reject that way of life because it goes against the engraved biology. Look into John Money for such examples.) So yea, slight developments against the norm (not in a slandering type of way) could essentially create a homosexual. It doesn't have to fit god's plan for procreation. Just a thought.

As for the question of the thread, yea i think gay marriage is fine. Why shouldn't it be? This is a secular nation. Not to say religion has no role, but using one religion's parameters shouldn't be done. There are billions of people who are not Christians, so should be barred from getting married married? Some may choose to get married in religious observance, but many get married for the binding elements. Hold religious views is fine, but don't use that as discrimination against others.

Would you want non-skiers telling you that you can't ride switch or keeping you out of some terrain? I would think not. The same thing applies. A great deal of those people who have commented are not gay, and therefore are not qualified to comment.

The existance of a gay marriage does nothing that harms its critics. It is the idea that gets them so worked up. The whole debate is certain people telling other people how to live, and what ideas to hold.

its impossible to argue with a straiht edge emo kid, just get over it. Theres very little seperation between church and state, and your little whiny voice cant change that, sorry.

all of these threads follow the same pattern. type "gay" into the search bar sometime. I'm tired of giving scientific reasoning to support my views, only to get shut down with genius comments like "you're going to hell".

If think the thing I've learned most for NSG is that the reason some people give into religion so much is because it is easy. A much easier way to explain something.

no not really, i took courses in phych and i dont buy it. Being gay is just a form of being confused, probably mainly the way you were raised.

im not religious at all and i dont support gay marriage, i just dont think its right...if you cant produce a child than your relationship is shallow and mostly based off of meaningless sex. I do support civil unions though, i understand that there is no way to change the minds of some people and i respect them for their decision of who they want to be with and if they need something to help show that than go ahead.

I assume you don't support marriage for infertile people, the elderly, or people who do not want kids. After all, the only reason for marriage is to procreate, right?

Dude I've tried reasoning with these people. No matter what biological, psychological, and sociological data I present, It is overlooked with lines like "I've taken phych classes before and I just don't buy it." or "It's just not right, just a way a way of being confused". Very rarely does anyone EVER challenge my evidence, or give a reason why data i present is wrong.

Some of the best data on this subject has been compiled in Royale's brilliant thread "My Opinion on Gays". I'll give him a very small morsel of credit though; Penis + Vagina = Baby and Penis + Ass = No Baby is at least some display of thought process.

I usually try not to have any type of drawn out arguments with thick headed people, especially on topics like this. You're right, it is pretty worthless. But when I do challenge something, my hope is that people who are reading don't see one of those comments and be like, "hmm, that makes sense" without actually thinking about it much. Plus, that person that said whatever it was in the first place might even change their perspective. Usually it won't happen, but it's possible. That, and it's fun when you can make someone look stupid.

anybody who doesnt agree with people in there eyes are just ignorant. So i'm ignorant cause i dont agree with them. Pretty much sums up the whole thread

No. You're ignorant because you disregard real evidence in favor of personal prejudices, and you don't understand that people can find comfort in anything but God.

I suppose you're a little right. My views are that scientific evidence and facts should have more weight in forming opinions concerning human rights than your gag reflex. You obviously believe otherwise, so I call you ignorant.

There's also that gem quoted above, which I think speaks for itself to anyone with a bit of sense.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ignorance

Notice how in every variation of the definition, words such as "uneducated", "unaware", "lack of..." are used. Sir, a lot of people have taken the time to "educate" themselves in this matter. They have become "aware" of actual physical data, which has removed their "lack of" knowledge in the subject.

Sir, ignorance has nothing to do with agreeing. It simply has to do with a state of mind, that is "uneducated" or "unaware" in a certain subject matter.

And sir... I believe I have lost the very small amount of respect i had for you with this quote:

"So its under the catholic church, i know blah blah blah seperate church from state, get over it. Gay ppl are rather disturbing in my opinion. Plus if you defending gays you might as well just come out of the closet cause if your not gay then dont even bother."

...sounds something like Saddam Hussein would say... I thought "you people" were all about Freedoms and protecting them...

I do believe the the document that this country holds most sacared states disctinctly that a separation of church and state must exist.

i have studied gays not by choice in a phych class i took for syracuse university. Dont say i'm educated, you believe your science facts, i stil believe my religious facts, how does that make me ignorant?

How the hell do you "study" gays? Tell you what, I've taken years of ethics, and as far as I'm concerned you're a horrible person. How's that?

Homophobia at its worst is summed up by the quote "If you're defending gays you might as well come out of the closet". Essentially the reason you're disturbed here, apparently, is that you feel that if you support the rights of gay people people might start thinking you're one of them. All I can say to people like you is, "Wow." And hope that I never have to associate with anyone like you. Forget ignorance for the moment. Obviously it's a factor (one would have to be a stubborn fool to miss that point), but it's not what's most important here, which, simply put, is this.

If there were no people like you in this world, it would be a better place to live.

"Why people become gay" is a fallacious statement to begin with because it makes a potentially (in fact all evidence would suggest a definitively) false assumption: that people "become" gay, that there's a moment of transformation, etc. I don't know where you're taking courses from, but it sounds like quite the crock. How old are you? You don't seem old enough to have a broad postsecondary knowledge base on this.
