ok, dont know if anyone has said this yet but...

the way i feel about the whole 'gay as an insult' thing is that i feel that by now, my generation has become so used to using 'gay' or 'faggot' as an insult, that i find it no longer holds meaning to actually being homosexual. i mean, yes, i do call my friends 'fags' when they are being jackass's, but i mean it in no way that i think they are actually homosexual. and when someone is acting like a jackass me and people i know say that they are acting 'gay', in no way to us does that mean homosexual.

so, pretty much, i find that those words are no longer in referance to homosexual's or anything, they are just another insult that all mean the same thing

Read my post again, I said the Nazi's took it 'one step further'. I had a German Grandmother and I lived in Austria, believe me I know what happened there and I've seen the remnants. If you could read the propaganda put forward at the time they used exactly the same kind of ranting to brainwash (for want of a better word) the population into accepting a psuedo-scientific view that the human race is divisible into different tiers of evolutionary advancement. It wasn't long before they were using the widespread acceptance of their rationalle to justify their genocidal actions.

I accept your view about gays, however, on the one hand you are complaining about gay people forcing their actions and activities on you, whilst on the other hand you are openly abusing and forcing your view onto other people in the least prosaic manner. Those are the actions of a hypocrite.

In future, if you want to share your views, do it in an eloquent and lyrical manner and without the grossly distasteful terms you use in your posts.

This put you in the 'outsider' catagory right off the bat. Some of your earliet memories were bad sounds coming from your parents bedroom. Someone above posted something to the likes of 'people don't use gay to refer to stupid'. What a joke that is. What I mean is: When I say ' God, that Math test was so fucking gay!' I don't mean 'God that math test likes men' I use 'gay' and 'fag' in my language just as much as I use any other insult. Get used to it, being gay isn't right. And whoever said that not using 'gay' is common decency just like not using 'nigger', think before you type. The Afro-American race has gone through SO much more than the gays have. I'm saying its a degrading term...ok lets say using 'jew'. You can say u got 'jewed'...how is that different...jewish people did get prusicuted by the Nazis....oh but wait gays did too....so don't say gays haven't been through hard times...and gays still aren't accepted jewish people are, african americans are, and any other ethnicity...but gays are still discriminated against. It's different from calling someone 'stupid', it's derogatory, it is completely said in amena way, it doesn't mean stupid, i agree with kami, peoiple assosciate 'gay' not with stupid, but with 'homosexual' then from there they go to 'bad, wrong, etc.' It is not an offhand remark to a lot of people, Kami, I hear you.

I don't think saying 'You got jewed,' is very derogatory. Even before the 11th century, and even through the development of Babylonia and the Roman empire Jews, have been persecuted and exiled. They've had centuries of plight where they had gravely unequal rights in their various vernaculars. Therefore, I think saying 'you got Jewed' is actually sort of empathetic to the plight of the Jews. It's asserting the fact that bad things have happened to Jewish people. Now if you say 'You dumb jew.' That's the equivalent of saying 'You're gay.' Except some people choose to be Jewish, and it isn't as naturally ingrained as sexuality. I think the only derogatory part of saying that would be not actually realizing the severe degree of which Jewish people suffered which is promulgated in the usual intonation of the saying, but the statement does imply some empathy.

 
Yes, but gravteck, saying 'you got jewed' doesn't mean 'you got screwed like the jews did.' Most people take it to mean, 'you got ripped off (i.e., by a jew).'

Most (if not all) of the people I know who still use gay of fag as an insult idiots. They're the same people who say women shouldn't be police because they aren't as strong as men. Alot of them are homophobic, not necissarily because they themselves are gay, but because they feel that their own sexuality is being attacked. Then there are others who say they don't think of it as an insult directed to homosexuals.

That's because they don't fucking think.

I am shocked by the number of people on NS who posted 'this thread is gay' or something else pathetic to that effect.

I don't know why really, I just though people here were better than that.

One of the reasons its bad for women to be cops is for their own safety. I've seen a few of those police videos where the girl cop got hit pretty hard, and sort of messed up. But under normal circumstances, they do fine.
