GATORADE FREE FLOW TOUR ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR INAUGURAL 2010 WINTER SEASON Ten-Event Winter Leg of the Amateur Series to Debut January 9-10, 2010, Registration Open Now atgatoradefreeflowtour.com Burr Ridge, Ill. – October 30, 2009 – Seeking out the best amateur snowboarders and freeskiers across the country this winter, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour today announced the complete schedule for the inaugural 2010 season. The Tour will kick off the weekend of Jan. 9-10 with competitions at both Big Boulder Ski Area in Lake Harmony, Pa. and Vail Ski Resort in Vail, Colo. Eight other events will follow (full schedule below) on the weekends of Jan. 16-17, Jan. 23-24 and Jan. 30-31. “Being able to bring amateurs in snowboarding and freeskiing the same stepping stone to the pros we offer skateboarders and BMX riders through the summer Free Flow Tour is something we are really excited about,” said Kenny Mitchell, Gatorade action sports team manager. “We want to do everything we can to support action sports at a grassroots level, and we’re looking forward to seeing these dedicated freeskiers and snowboarders out there competing.” The first ever winter season of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour will showcase the top amateur winter athletes competing in snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe) and freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe). Snowboarding disciplines will have separate competitions for men and women, while the freeski contests will be open to both. The 10-event schedule, which boasts between three and six winners per stop, will include resorts in all areas of the United States – the East (3) and West Coasts (3), the Midwest (1) and the Rocky (2) and Wasatch Mountains (1). Open to all amateur snowboarders and freeskiers 21 and younger, registration for the Tour is now available at gatoradefreeflowtour.com. The winners in each of the 51 contests (30 slopestyle and 21 superpipe) will be flown to the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals, taking place in conjunction with the Winter Dew Tour’s Toyota Championship, February 5-7 at Mount Snow Resort in Vermont. Encompassing the “Flow to Pro” theme that is the cornerstone of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, the two overall snowboard superpipe and slopestyle champions and the overall freeski superpipe and slopestyle champions earn a spot to compete against the pros at the first stop of the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour the following season. In addition to the main contests, each stop of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour will also include a Junior Jam division, open to all competitors 13 and under. The Junior Jam will take place prior to each of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s Open Division competitions, giving young amateurs valuable contest experience. of all the places in utah to have this....brighton? wow that slope course is going to suck.

Seems like a cool idea. It's interesting that they decided to have the girls compete with the guys. Do they think the girls stand a chance?

you are an idiot.

1) its sexist not "sexest"

2) its not sexist, its a fact that chicks at this point are not on the same level as guys.

Contemplating registering... Are the kids at like the killington stop going to be as good as the kids at the Dew Tour because then I might not even bother.

right...how can they call it an open category and have age restrictions...then its not really open. o well...maybe they will pull their heads out of their butts next year, and have it really be open and have different men and women categories for skiers....

good luck to everyone competing!!!!! sounds like a lot of fun!! ill be watching everyone kill it at loon =)

they can call it open because it's open to anyone under the age of 21. they have that age limit for the same reason they have it during all their skate/bmx contests because they want to support the up and coming kids that are going to be the next big thing (i.e. their sponsoring chaz ortiz) not some 25 year old who just wants an easy win. the whole point of the tour is to give the next generation a shot at competing with the pros, not someone who has been around long enough to make a name for themselves on their own.
as for the girls it's just an unfortunate fact that their aren't enough female competitors to make a separate category for them. that and there is no womens ski category in the dew tour either so they'd be competing for nothing. if more chicks start ripping and competing i'm sure that will change, but i've seen enough competitions where there's like 3 chicks compeiting and they all know they're gunna place, it's just not fun to watch

just because you're older doesn't mean it's easier to win.

the age restriction is really kind of aggravating, so since people are over 21 they don't deserve a shot at a spot in the dew tour? at least one that doesn't require some major comp win...

real cool.

Actually I am a girl. If anything I would describe what I said as cynical. And from what I have seen of girl's skiing is that there are very, very few girls who can compete on the same level as the guys and most of them already of sponsors etc. I think much more girls would enter and compete in this comp if they were given their own category. As it is I see the majority of them reluctant to enter as they don't see themselves as standing a chance. There is a lot of potential for girls to progress in skiing but I don't see this as helping them.

i wasn't implying that just because you're older its easier to win or you're less deserving of a chance to compete in a pro competition. i just think gatorade is more interested in supporting the next generation of skiers and snowboarders and i'm down with that. bought time something besides an energy drink sponsored skiing

there is a woman's category this year. last year it was an exhibition, this year it is a real event, with prize money, so they wouldn't be competing for nothing. plus if a girl won then they still get the same prize, they get to compete at the Dew Tour next year, if they beat all the guys, why wouldn't they get to compete with the guys at Dew Tour? and no I don't think this will actually happen, but it would be kick ass if it did!!!

agreed...it's not sexist to say men ski at a much higher level on average than women...don't be an idiot, women are simply built and function differently than men and cannot compete with them in most atheletic events.
anyway, super gay that it is 21 and under?

i am trying to register and there is no place to enter for ski open slopestyle does this mean it is full? there is the option of snowboard open

yeah, and none in washington.

gatorade can officially suck my nutsack. actually. fuck them

they say "oh, it's in all the regions" fuck that! more like cali, utah, colorado, and the fucking east coast.

goddammmmmit rant! ahhhhh

yah im kinda surprised theyre doing pipe here in vail...in fact, im surprised theyre doing ANYTHING here
im a couple years too old to compete but ill probably be on patrol that day and im definitely gonna request the golden peak zone that weekend so i can chill and watch

as far as i have heard most if these resorts don't have great reputations for parks? either way it should be pretty interesting

please tell me your fucking joking ....I completly agree with Willem Im stoked to compete but there is still so much talent in the 22-30 range oh well..... still will be a sick event

Honestly so am I. Last year the biggest jump was probably around 30 feet, and there was one of them, and by the time they had the snow to build it, it was too slushy to get speed for anyway.

They managed to pull off a triple air thing last year though so I'm sure they'll figure something out.

I bet no skiers enter though, not at our stop. I've maybe seen 2 or 3 skiers at the resort that would be at a competition level, but thats all. Personally I suck or I'd sign up myself haha.

hahaha i really wanted to compete, but believe me a 17 year old's got a much better chance than me. shit i don't wanna hurt some little kids feelings stompin a mean dub 12 in his face anyways

tons of skiers will sign up for the vail stop
A) it's the first one so hype will be ridiculous
B) pretty much anyone who thinks theyre in driving distance will do it
it'll be crowded i guaranteee...for a few reasons

this is wack how can they not be trying to stop at a sick resort liike Bachelor or Timberline in the green treed mountain hills of oregon, freaks you free flow tour you better come here and see how many sick unheard of riders you will find that kill it

I was under the impression yesterday that all the spots were full but i checked again today and had a little bit better luck with the website and signed up for two spots. You late comers better hurry.
