Gas tanker explosion caught on video

whoa...

story:

"A gas tanker exploded on a highway in central China on Saturday, killing five people.

A passenger on a bus captured some harrowing footage of the blast on the Hunan Chang-Ji highway. In the video, posted on YouTube, motorists are seen running away from the overturned tanker, which flipped outside a tunnel, before the powerful explosion.

A separate surveillance video—posted by London's Telegraph—shows the cars near the the tanker being engulfed by the smoke.

According to state broadcaster CCTV, 20 tons of liquified natural gas had leaked before the explosion. Three firefighters were among those killed."

At first I was like....those are a shit ton of pussies for running from that cloud.....and then I was like..... I take it back.

At first i thought the cameraman missed the explosion and the cloud was the aftermath.

I thought wrong. BOOM!

i do this all the time in call of duty. looks to me like someone hit it with a javelin or a predator missile

that was insane... like you can literally see in order the following things

1. fire appears

2. fire/air around it seems to be sucked back inwards towards the center of the explosion

3. shockwave

such a good example of how we're so influenced by media. we see explosions like these in movies that are nothing like this caliber, and then we assume they are similar in the real world but it's much more violent and unforgiving.

nah nevermind.

i don't have to look any farther than your post count to know that your original point is incorrect

that he believes what he sees in the media/movies as factual

everyone knows hollywood explosions and special effects should be taken with a grain of salt and are dressed up for a wow factor.

you got a lot more butthurt than you should have, lol

I do apologize though, i didn't direct the comment directly at you, more of the whole group you were referring to in the media comment.

lolz i kid i kid, internet arguments are stupid, i was gonna go all out then kinda gave up

well quite frankly that's what i meant. i meant it's kind of shocking that people are so surprised by this and that i am surprised by the video as well.

obviously i don't believe explosions in real life are like explosions in movies, i was just completely unprepared for an explosion like the one in the video. my point is, media fucks with the reality of things both good and bad.

as was I, although I had no info prior to watching the video i.e size of vehicle, type, type of accident, gas contained, amount of gas contained, etc.

looks like a BLEVE: boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion, learned all about them in my hazmat course. There are all sorts of mechanisms required on US tanker train cars and trailers to prevent that from happening, but it's still possible

I'm not an explosives expert, but to my knowledge, you've got to types of things: flammable and explosive. Flammable things make the huge, cinematic fireball. Explosive makes the strong pressure wave and all that. Obviously the fireball will throw out some pressure from all the heat.

If you ever ignite oxygen and hydrogen you'll see the difference. Oxygen burns, hydrogen pops.

And wow, lucky that wasn't in the tunnel or whatever they're near.

Even like a small 1"X1" cube of cesium is enough to shatter a thick porcelain bathtub if there's water in it when the cesium is dropped in. Cool to watch.

Haha anybody who calls an M203 a noob tube has obviously never fired one. Those things take skill to load, aim and fire with speed and precision, and the recoil is fucking massive. That guy's pretty damn beast if I do say so myself

LNG.

shit's scary. now imagine a tanker ship of that exploding in a harbor. will take out most of the area surrounding the harbor.

Something similar to that happened near me a few years ago, it blew windows out of a nearby house haha /claim
