GAS PRICES

I know there has prolly already been a thread about this and i dont give two fucks...

Here is how i see it the only peopl that can change are current situation is us together, as the american people. Especially us the american youth more than anyone, we the youth are the most influencial on society right here and now. I know what your thinking "no fucking way". I know are elders might control the government as congress men, heads of state, and presidents; but, truly we as the american youth control the gov. we are have the most freedom compared to anyone. Honestly we dont have to worry about anything when it comes to put up a fight against these huge coparations and against are gov. who has done next to nothing to try to help control this situation of high gas prices. I saying that we dont have to worry about who upset or who wrong for fear of losing are jobs or being out cast by society, we are already outcast of society. So like are elders for older generations who made a call for change, form the American Rev. to the counter culture and vietnam war. I believe as an american youth that we should try ourselves to take the first step one of many steps to change one problem within society, this being gas prices.

thanks for listening to my rant and please post below if you can understand where im coming for or if you even disagree.

the point is that we together as americas youth have to understand that we need to do something about this just not sit here and let it happen.

the main reason i made this thread is to see wat kind of support i have from the rest of americas youth. ya know wat i mean.

this hasnt started in the usa because prices arent high enough yet really desturb the elders but we should stop this before the prices are way to high

high gas prices are bad but looking towards the future, the affect of high gas prices is causing car companies to make much more efficient cars (60+ mpg) and not many people are buying their 10 mpg cars anymore but i do hate paying $4.25 per gallon

the current gas prices has very little to do with the government or the gas corporations, the high price is being charged by the people that pump the crude oil i.e. the Saudis and where ever else we are getting gas companies get their gas from. There was a breakdow in my local paper of where the money goes and on a $4 gallon of gas $2.90 goes toward the ppl (saudis and such) who pump the crude oil.

yeah but america its self has crude oil supplies that could be tapped into to lower the price we are paying at the pump

yeah this is a very good point and i agree with you this is helping us for the future but, gas prices will just keep increasing. By making these cars we are not doing anything to really fight the problem the price will just increase ever so steadly. We need to do something because even with cars that can go 60plus miles do you really want to be paying 10-15 dollars for gas in 3 years or less.

No, I want to be paying 10-15 dollars right now. If prices continue to creep up slowly then people will slowly adjust by buying more efficient cars, but this still leads to paying more for gas overall. It would seem more painful but be more beneficial if the prices sky rocketed in a short period of time. Once that happened there would be a huge scramble to come out with vehicles that use little to no gas at an affordable price. Car manufacturers aren't stupid, they make cars that will have a decent demand to make them more money and right now people are just as happy to drive the same cars they did 5 years ago at the low gas prices. There has been a slight shift in preferences, but nothing major enough to force the car companies into producing many efficient/alternative fuel vehicles.

exactly.

like you said, fuel efficient cars and alternative fuels will not be used until gas is 10 -15 dollars a gallon simply because gas is still cheaper than anything other form of energy. and for all those people who come back and say, "we have ethonal based cars, propane, bio-fuel and all that good shit" it doesnt matter. we (as a younger generation) will never be able to stop the prices of gas. sorry but its true. unless the business corporation world changes, were fucked. think about how much money you spend to fill up your tank of gas. say 80 bucks and now think about not paying that much money. now, think about how many truck drivers just filled up or how many planes just flew in the time you didnt fill up. this country will go into gas rationings before "we" as a society can change anything.

enjoy!

You realize it takes away all your credibility and makes you sound like an idiot when you write like that don't you?

I remember hearing that if a large enough portion of Americans came together for 1 day and didn't buy gas from the major gas stations that it would impact the industry so dramatically that they would be forced to lower prices.

If we had a larged organized effort to boycott the top gas stations for one specific date, I think we'd definitely see some changes.

i just paid 4.49 for regular unleaded. There are many model cars that get over 50 mpg but the companies that own these models or patents to these engines don't want to make them because then their stock in gasoline will go down. The big car manufacturers make it seem like they are trying to help by saying its "hybrid." fuck that. It's all controlled by power and money. We need some people to infiltrate these manufacturers and make these models of cars.

nice to see you back.

I really don't see how that would work, even if everybody didn't buy gas on one particular day, they would just have to buy more the next day.

Perhaps we could boycott one particular oil company and force a price war. But that would never work, americans don't have the discipline

I just started driving. $70 to fill up. Ouch.

The gas prices are rising for bullshit reasons, too. They say there's not enough crude oil, which is an outright lie. Last year ABC sent a DVD to our Civics class with a few news stories on it. One was about the Athabasca Oil Sands in Canada. The story said there was enough to supply the world with energy for 100 years, but it's mixed in with dirt, so it's a little harder to extract, but still profitable if the oil was sold at $50USD a barrel. I also don't believe that the world is so much more oil hungry now than it was a few years ago. Do we really see that many more cars on the road that gas should go up a dollar or more in 3 months?

im sorry but HOW THE HELL IS THIS GOING TO HELP?

face it, if we dont buy any gas on Monday, we would just buy twice as much on Tuesday.

gas controls pretty much everything, just thinking. if we can get gas to go down then everything that gas has an affect on will potentially go down. and the only way this will happen is if we do what he said, to quote PUSH "...the youth leading the charge"

Unless you want to set India and China back 10 years or so there is nothing you can do to stop gas prices going up. Roll with the punches and change your lifestyle. Be thankful you don't live in Europe. The United States have the lowest gas prices in the industrialised world.

And for the thread starter, the youth of america have no sway in anything besides american idol. Sorry to break it to you. You have very little buying power and the small percentage of you that can vote, rarely do.

all im saying if the youth of america wanted to make a change they could, they have a lot more power than you think.

Perhaps with somethings, not with gas prices, at least not for 10 years when this generation is paying more taxes and contributing more to the economy.

And you hit the nail on the head with that one. While a gas boycot would be great in theory, I can't see it working in reality.

We've created such a strong dependancy on oil.. that even if we held off for a day, two days, three days.. that after X amount of days the numbers would return.. and they'd adjust their price to compensate.. or skyrocket prices even further the next few days.. banking on the fact that people are dependant.. I understand.

Not sure if you've ever received that chain email going around.. but what if millions boycotted the EXXON and MOBIL for a full year and instead got their gas elsewhere? Wouldn't that in theory force them to drop prices and other companies to follow suit in an effort to compete and not be underbid?

Thus causing a price war?

my mom's in france right now and she said all the long-haul truckers parked their rigs on the major highways to/from paris in protest. i don't know how to say "serious clusterfuck resulted" in french.
