Gas prices

no one will be able to afford gas in a few years, think of how much everything will change and the possible economic depression, how will you afford to get to the ski hill?

whats going to happen?

Its more to do with how weak the dollar is. Were you aware that just 6 years ago 1 dollar = 1 Euro? Now its about $1.60 per Euro. Back then gas was between 27 and 32 dollars a gallon. I wish I had graduated in 2000.

i paid 4.14 today and thats the cheepest gas around, only had 20 bucks to put in, dident even give me a quarter tank on my truck.

the gas prices in the UK have been ridiculously high for a very long time. right now its 1 pound 30 pence ($2.60 american) for ONE LITER of gas. there are almost 4 liters to a gallon, so that's $10.40 per gallon over there.

think about that^

Gas prices are soo crazy. I used to drive a honda passport, that was shit on gas. It would cost me about $60 to get less than 200 miles. So after It broke, I was like fuck that, instead of fixing I'll just sell it to get a sedan. And now for $35 i get about 230 miles, which is considerably a huge difference. Still expensive, but almost half the price of the passport.

Ya but America is way more spread out than European countries and we rely on our cars alot more. You guys have much much better public transportation over there and we don't have that option.

word... i live in a small town in northern michigan with no bus, train, or taxi services. hell, i have to spend $15 on gas just to see my girlfriend, who lives half an hour from me. so, shit might be more expensive over there, but you have alternatives and i'd bet you a half tank i have to do a lot more driving than you.

and you wanna know whose fault it is...

THOSE damn oil companies fault thats whp. Theyre making huge profits, while raising the gas prices. Now i dont know who is responsible for how much a barrel of oil costs, but shouldnt it be their fault.

word. all valid points. but nobody there really drives suvs, all subcompacts. people drive almost as much as we do. i'm just trying to put it in perspective how much we don't have to pay for gas.

ps- i don't live there haha. EC

hahahahahahah

do you even remotely know what your talking about when you say "you don't need gas and oil, they are not a necessity" ?

Oil makes up a ridiculous amount of everyday materials. All plastics are petroleum based. When oil does run out, (which it wont for a while, we won't see the end of oil) We are truly and completely fucked. Our entire society relies on oil and petroleum based products.

gas is 1.25 a litre here (toronto). so 4.75 a gallon.

You may not NEED your hummer, or NEED your plastic water bottle, but you need a fair amount of these things.

Air conditioners,

ammonia, anti-histamines, antiseptics, artificial turf,

asphalt, aspirin, balloons, bandages, boats, bottles, bras,

bubble gum, butane, cameras, candles, car batteries, car

bodies, carpet, cassette tapes, caulking, CDs, chewing gum,

linoleum, lip balm, lipstick, loudspeakers, medicines, mops,

motor oil, motorcycle helmets, movie film, nail polish, oil

filters, paddles, paint brushes, paints, parachutes,

paraffin, pens, perfumes, petroleum jelly, plastic chairs,

plastic cups, plastic forks, plastic wrap, plastics, plywood

adhesives, refrigerators, roller-skate wheels, roofing

People in Europe have been dealing with shit gas prices for so long, they're all over there laughing their asses off at us Americans bitching. What we pay now is what they paid fucking like six or seven years ago. That being said, I bought 25$ for my Suby today and it barely nudged me over halfway. Fuck this.

i haven't been in a car in over a week, i walk to class and have a lot of food in my house and plenty of friends live in my town, i bike/longboard/walk everywhere
it's fucking ridiculous though how these prices are

yeah that's exactly what i was implying. i was driving around aberdeen with my cousin the other day talking about it.

And they've got super good public transportation all over europe also, so people don't spend an arm and a leg on their gas prices. The cars there are pretty fuel efficent too I bet

You would think that the US would catch on but NOOOO! My friend who is from Sheffield laughs his ass off everytime he gets into his car that gets 19 mpg. It's fucking rediculous. I get so jealous whenever I watch TopGear.

I get tired of the whole "its worse in europe (or what have you) so you can't really bitch about it" argument that pops up here and everywhere. Yea, it is more expensive in Europe and many other regions, but hell, they had been that way for a loooong time. Damn, even when I was in Europe like 9 years ago gas was ~$4/gallon. Here, it has skyrocketed. When you have an economy that is completely intertwined with the rate of gas, then BOOM, it skyrockets, then everything else goes up and fucks up everything. I take buses to school and cut down a shitton on days to ski, but that's not where the impact is only felt. Food, goods, and all that shit will be affected, and thats a bulk of the problem, or something on those lines.

On another note, the nature of transportation is vastly different in Europe, largely due to density. Yea. Can't really take a bullet train between large metropolitan areas except of the NE, and elsewhere its fucked. Suburbs are poorly connected and all that shit.

Fuck gas prices.

not that simple, i need a truck for the work i do, no way in hell i can haul a bobcat, concrete mix, shovels, drills, etc etc, in behind a honda civic. some people need big cars and trucks, and on top of it it doenst matter the type of car people have, there is no shortage in gas right now so its not like thats the problem, its all the fucking tax hikes on gas thats doing this, if you were to just take state tax (for the u.s.a) off the oil, we'd all save about 15-20 cents a gallon. these taxes need to be lifted, the gov makes so much money off othere things that could afford to reduce or abolish the oil tax. and then the foreign oil companies gotta stop fucking around too. i f we were to start drilling more in the usa we would be seeing a huge benefit. we gotta reduce our dependency on the foreign oil.

You're an idiot. 15-20 cents? >5% a gallon. Yea, that would make a big difference. Maybe you should petition to stop inflation and that would do it too. Both would be equally effective. You are the reason why people hate Americans; learn some logic.

when it goes from 3.00$/gallon to 4.00$/gallon in less than a year that is not inflation, inflation would be like 20 to 30 cents per year

well its more like this:

we are in a huge deficit. taxing gas helps all the idiots out there in their huge SUVs reach a point where they have to buy a new car.

so yeah we could cut gas taxes, and help maintain this lifestyle of low mpg vehicles and ridiculously long commutes that we americans so love. or we could tax it even more. thats what I believe in. you try not to cut taxes when theres a huge deficit. thats what I believe.

it sucks. deal with it. buy a moped.

canadians pay more than americans do for gass u guys should quit complaining i had to do a check for gas prices all around the world n the cheepest in the US was like 2.06 n the most expensive was like 4.27 or something thats not even a dollar a litre if im doing the conversion right. we pay 6.25 a gallon

damn

i guess if anyone was smart they would oof bought a huge gas tank like under there house and filled it up with thousands of gallons back then

From the 03 gas thread

"

1.89 a gallon, fucking bullshit. I can barely afford to drive these days."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

im thinkin a moped scooter thing is what my be the best option for summer and everyone cram into a car in the winter
