It's ok guys. It makes TOTAL sense to sell our reserve oil to foreign countries and continue to buy from Russia while shutting down drilling ON OUR LAND.

If it helps anyone out, if your car is a 2001 or newer, you can use Sheetz' 88 octane, which is cheaper right now.
I switched a few weeks ago, saves me about 60-70 cents a gallon. Can't tell a difference in performance, and MPG has stayed consistent, if not sliiiightly increased (but that might be placebo).

The nature of the oil market is that prices are set by global traders and supplies are transported to countries and regions based on the need for specific types of crude, Also certain grades of crude oil are exported to refineries worldwide that are equipped to handle that specific product. We export some of our light crude while we import heavier crude.
It doesn't even matter whether those barrels are consumed domestically or exported anyway, as long as they make it to the international market (which they are). Biden's goal is to keep prices lower or to keep them rising by releasing oil into the global market. By releasing oil, you can try to limit the supply crunch, therefore bringing the cost of a barrel down, which should in turn lower, or at least limit the rise, of gas prices globally.

They're finally slowing down on drilling permits, and I'm glad they refused those offshore permits, no need to keep destroying ecosystems imo, especially since it wouldn't help short term, and the silver lining of this whole crisis is that it might help accelerate the energy transition, which will be beneficial long term so we stop being so oil-dependent.
