That is fucking ridiculous. Do you guys think this will peak and decrease again? I hope. Oh and I'm basically in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

that really sucks, its not that bad in VT yet but i every time i fill up i just watch the numbers on the pump shoot up so fast. it made me so angry the other day that i developed a facial tick and had to walk away for a minute

dude, have a cry. its $7.53 in nz. ($1.96/L) its crazy. I doubt its ever going to come back down. as well as record high prices, oil companys are returning record profits.

in my mind, high gas prices are here to stay, i dont see anyway they can come down(unless we drill in america)

personally, i dont like that it costs me 60$ to fill up, but when you put it into perspective, we dont have it that bad, think about the truckers, and everything that is delivered by truckers, now that is what has me concerned..... the airlines are in it quite bad also, they piss millions of$$ down the drain for every dollar oil jumps...

what i dont understand is how oil companies are getting criticized so much while colleges are charging outrageous admissions and making exponetially larger profits than the oil companies.

god damn money

i will get you a source, but the facts are that oil company's dont make very much money back as a percent of what they invested... the last number i saw was they got around 6% in profit....

they also pay more than their fair share in taxes,

Corporate profits receive a lot of media attention, but what receives

considerably less attention are the corporate taxes paid on corporate

profits. Do a Google search for "Exxon profits" and you'll get about

8,000 hits. Now try "Exxon taxes" and you'll get a little more than 300

hits. That's a ratio of about 33 to 1.

more

I'm pretty sure that Exxon's tax payment in 2007 of $30 billion

(that's $30,000,000,000) is a record, exceeding the $28 billion it paid

last year.

By the way, Exxon pays taxes at a rate of 41% on its taxable income!

[Update: The $40.6 billion and $39.5 billion figures are after-tax profits. For 2006, Exxon's EBT

(earnings before tax) was $67.4 billion, it paid $27.9 billion in taxes

(41.4% tax rate), and its NIAT (net income after tax), or profit, was

$39.5 billion.]

Over the last three years, Exxon Mobil has paid an average of $27

billion annually in taxes. That's $27,000,000,000 per year, a number so

large it's hard to comprehend. Here's one way to put Exxon's taxes into

perspective.

According to IRS data for 2004, the most recent year available:

Total number of tax returns: 130 million

Number of Tax Returns for the Bottom 50%: 65 million

Adjusted Gross Income for the Bottom 50%: $922 billion

Total Income Tax Paid by the Bottom 50%: $27.4 billion

Conclusion: In other words, just one corporation (Exxon Mobil) pays

as much in taxes ($27 billion) annually as the entire bottom 50% of

individual taxpayers, which is 65,000,000 people! Further, the tax rate

for the bottom 50% is only 3% of adjusted gross income ($27.4 billion /

$922 billion), and the tax rate for Exxon was 41% in 2006 ($67.4 billion in taxable income, $27.9 billion in taxes).

it kinda sucks because people like us want to buy cheap-moderately priced cars as soon as we get our licence and drive to the hill and what not but the gas puts dents in our pockets that we can't really afford(at least i can't). I want to buy an old school kinda car but it's engine will be shitty on gas...i guess now we think twice about driving with the prices and environment and all

That company is so dumb, they could easily raise there price one cent and then people wouldnt even mind buying gas at $4.20 per gallon. What Retards.

here in south lake tahoe it's like $4.35 for premium, which i have to put in my car. and living in the middle of the forest, i have to drive EVERYWHERE. it rulessss...$80 to fill up my tank

Dude, just in the first quater of 2008 they profited a record $10Billion...Thats after they paid all there bills...They are making a killing, I dont care what graphs or bars you have...there making money..I mean come on...its going up a $1 a day. wtf is that all about..

All four oil companys earned $36.9B ( thats all four put together) in the first three months of 2008.

Shell's earnings were up 52% from oil production to 5.4B

someone is getting rich...and it is not me.

Ya I didn't buy a fast bike that's for sure, but it gets great mileage and I use it as a commuter. It's 05 and I already have over 10k miles on it, it's fast enough to be fun though.

4.06 for reg......its gonna cost me about 400 dollars to drive to utah this summer. Plane tickets to pretty much anywhere are now officially cheaper than driving.

ive never been so pissed about buying anything. gas is now the biggest dread ever. i payed 40$ for 10 gallons. its cheaper to run your shit on milk.

yeah i'm about to go fill up at $4.09 outside of philly....fucking premium can blow me. but hey, the bright side, maybe now everyone will be on a motorcycle this summer and my parents will let me get one because people will be more aware of them being on the road while they are driving like ass-shats...or they wont...and i wont get a bike either..hah

and its funny, i thought it would be the tree huggers that would eventually be limiting racing dirtbike, but now it seems shell and exxon and those arab's that are doing the limiting. (not for the bike, i'm talking more on fuel for transport of the bikes, because i cant ride at my house)

It's ridiculous here too. $4.39 a gallon, and even more in town. I don't know what it costs to fill up because the pump automatically shuts off at $75, yikes!

its amazing how price of oil fell today and price at the pumps dont change but when the price goes up for oil they change at the pump the very next day or even the same day....sometihng just does not seem right about this whole gas thing.

forget about fueling your car, what about the people that wont be able to heat their own fucking house this winter because they cant afford heating oil. lots of people are going to die this winter from house fire from space heaters and shit.

yea but the airlines are just passing it on to us atleast i know air canada now has a "gas charge" which is a certain percent of the flight cost added on top again such bullshit. to be honest weve been getting gas really cheaply over the last 20 years do you really think it costs less than a dolllar to pump a litre of gas in the middle east transport it the whole way here and have all the companies along the way make some money off it.

i pay a cheap 4.55 a gallon for diesel. it just cost me about 120 dollars to fill my truck. not very convenient every two weeks. Ol' bicycle will be out soon

there has not been a new refinery in the US built in about 30 years, it really shows how much the gov't and oil companies really care, and with all the brains and spare money in america (?) we cant figure out how to make a car get more than 20mpg (just throwing out an average, i think) and its pretty bad when you can get a meal at McDonalds for about the price of a gallon

What the fuck are you talking about? If our government had any oil to regulate we would be paying 15 cents a gallon like Venezuela or Middle Eastern countries. Gas prices are high because the US can't self support, we just don't have enough. Neither do European countries, which is why gas is twice what it is here. Our government hasn't gotten us into this. It's simple supply and demand.
