Gap Year, what should I do?

I would like to travel anywhere in the world and get a job/volunteer somewhere and live a new experience, what should I do? Are there any programs that this is a possibility?

Im an au pair in Austria this year for my gap year. It's a nice set up if you dont have the money to just travel for a year or whatever. You have a place to stay, salary, tons of free time, lots of travelling, and just have to look after kids. For me its been awesome so far, let me know if you have any questions!

Peace generally wants a college degree. There are a LOT of awesome Americorps programs. My friend did city year between college and med school, but there are also plenty of entry level high school graduate programs too.

what year are you? if you're in college there are study abroad opportunities that will send you to many different places for the whole year to do volunteer work and learn at the same time. I have a friend who's in Ecuador with U of M and he loves it.

Im planning on building a small cabin to live in part time for my gap year kinda like this:Spring Senior year-Start building

Summer-Finish building/fishing

Fall-Lots of bowhunting and flyfishing

Winter-Rifle hunt and ski!

Spring-Start to get back into regular schedule

Summer-Get a job

What do you guys think about this? +K for any feedback and you should try this OP!

I was going to suggest this! Seems like a really cool way to see a different part of the world. Definitely check it out OP.

Its completely legit, these people run small farms and need help throughout the season. There are opportunities everywhere from Vancouver Island to Britain.

Hahaha one of the two... But I wouldn't live full time in the cabin and my parents would buy it and improve on it afterwards as a family cabin.

Find a girl, move to somewhere in BC and buy or build a cabin, rent or buy 2 sleds, have some homies there on and off for the course of around 4 months, shred EVERYDAY.

rent a place on the beach somewhere tropical, head there for around 4 months with the girl, learn to surf, chill all the time.

move to barcelona, rent a place for the final 4 months and live there with the girl.

People talk about making the best of the gap year by travelling. I want to do this. It is a bitch to plan though. In my honest opinion if you are trying to do a gap year. Start planning and asking around as soon as the idea comes into your head, and do it quick

What the hell does that have to do with taking a year off from school?

Nothing.

OP

Just go do whatever you like. At the same time you might never want to go back. If you like hiking go on a mountain adventure, if you like skiing ski everyday and take trips to somewhere ridiculous, idk do the cool shit you want to do but never have time. Basically live while you're still young enough to do some of the shit.

Ive done this. super sick. its actually WWOOF (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) i did it in NZ AUS and Chile and Argentina, super dope, next year im taking a gap year after HS and going to Thailand for a year with Rotary International. going to be amazing

Ive never heard of it called that but I have some friends that have done that all over. Want to myself but I would hate to be tied down anywhere in the summer

Do what I did, work half the year in a shitty, incredibly hard manual labor job which pays incredibly well (for me I was a plumbers laborer, $80 hour) then travel for rest of year to incredible, rich places living like a boss. I'm in whistler right now, spent a ski season split in Chile/Argentina and NZ, next stop Japan. Life is fabulous

No one in there right mind wants to be on a shovel all day digging trenches in the stinking hot western aus sun, it is fucked to say the least. You are positioned legit in a desert. This is not dosmetic plumbing for households, this is major drainage lines for mines. Fully qualified plumbers make easy 250k a year. Trust me brother, it's high paid because no one wants to do it.

its not, ive just been digging a trench in some old couples backyard because the idiots didnt put a sock over the ag line so their backyard is sinking. its the shittest work ive ever done. and we've just had two 45º C days here in sydney. had to do it manually with a mate with shovels.got about 250 a day and it was horrible.
