is anyone else getting tired of kids trying to be "gangster" all these little fags at my skool buying 120 dollar BAPES and G- unit pants and all that. it comes off just so fake. idk

wut do u guys think??

just putting it out tehre? i may be completely alone on this..who knows

I only own one pair of Exhaust Jeans and those are strictly for parties cause their the only ones with big enough pockets to fit a 40 in each of the front ones and a 26 in each of the back ones.

you know you should spend less time worrying about what other people are wearing because not everyone is the same. They are probably making fun of your cloths also, let them were there bape, 120 is like a normal price for another designer jean such as desiel etc

i wouldnt say that. i think that dressing straight up gangster and dressing straight up emo are extremes at different ends of the spectrum. in that case, they are principally the same thing. a fabricated image based on an "identity" those individuals want to express...the paradox lies within this "individualism" because.. they're all doing the same thing. every emo kid who wears tighter pants than i do, listens to scremo, is compleltey involved in this new wave of culture. but the 'gangsters' do the exact same thing. they listen to a certain type of music, they dress accordingly, and they follow a certain criteria that the gangster culture presents.

i have no problem with either of these archetypes. i just find it so silly though. I mean. why go to such an extreme? it's obvious that you're trying SO hard to mold yourself into the typical gangster or emo kid. but why? why the hell try so hard?!?! and trust me, they ARE trying hard. because there's no way in hell they happen to magically jump into a perfectly coordinated outfit that portrays every thing an emo or gangster kid is about.

of course there are extremists of all sorts, not just the emo and gangster type. there are feminist extremists, catholic extremists, punk extremists, etc. but everywhere i look the most prominant image is that of either the emo extreme or the gangster extreme.

the people who express these extremes are still molded by something outside of themselves to conform to a certain style and culture. which is just as silly as being a sheep. what drives me insane is the emo kids who claim to be oh so original and different from the rest of us because they're fashion is risk-taking or because they listen to not so mainstream music. well the thing is, emo and gangster has become the mainstream. i remember when taking back sunday was just a small bad nobody knew about. now they're huge and on every radio station, every music television station i see.

now, there isnt anything wrong with this at all. where i find the problem is the hypocrites that i mentionned above.

anyway, im not hating, im just explaining that gangster and emo pertain to the exact same principles and are very similar in their own right.

JEA motha fucka wrist cutting time.

gangsta+emo= steezz?

stephy i agree. I dont think there is much of anything i can disagree with in that post. A+

Wear what you want, everyone always makes fun of fashions they are not a part of. I'm sure other people probably think the way you dress is "played out" too.

I think people should buy what they like. If they think babe and g unit is nice and they have the money to afford espensive stuff then why not get it.

If someone likes the way emo stuff looks then buy it.

If you like hip hop, listen to hip hop. If you like country, listen to country. If you like emo, listen to emo.

The only thing I don't like are people who just wear certain stuff or listen to certain music to be cool.

I'm white, wealthy, and jewish but I still like hip hop. So who cares.

definitely not.

im saying there's nothing wrong with EITHER of them. the style of dress doesnt matter..its the ppl who take on this attitude. u know that attitude. the attitude i described above. and what i also pointed out was that both emo and gangster are similar. it's just an image. ppl who are TRYING so hard to look a certain way and encompass all that is 'gangster' or 'emo.' and to me im just wondering...why try so freakin hard? just be yourself.

ahahaha I laughed really hard at that, thank you steph!

really good post on the gangster vs emo lifestyles too.

It doesn't make sense to "like" clothes. Clothing choice is a cultural phenomenon, and what clothes you choose depends on what you think you're going to get out of them. Bottom line, if you buy anything other than shit ass salvo clothes, ITS BECAUSE YOUR WORRIED WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THINK. Admit it.

well thank u mat.

also to bigdaddy up there^

i agree with you to an extent for sure. but i also believe that in order for some ppl to feel confident they need the reassurance that they look good according to other ppl's standards, and even though they might not directly care what they think, or carry on that type of attitude..it is in some way applicable. and i think most ppl are guilty of this at least a little bit. even if they're punk extremists, they're still trying to appeal to other punks in a certain sense. perhaps that isnt foregrounded in their intentions when they choose what clothing to wear, but it is definitely an underpinning reason for such.

i dont think that bapes are gangster all the black kids at my school are preppy skaters now and i was already a preppy skater so i hangout with a bunch of black kids
