Gaining leg muscle

alright NS, i turn to you. i need to build up more muscle in my legs. i don't have much weights at home so i was wondering what are some excersizes to gain muscle that wouldnt require weight machines... hmmm that prolly sounds confusing but well see

run till you cant run anymore, if you have good knees i highly recommend freestyle running, short sprints with lots of reps, bike up hill, its not hard to think of some, and get a protein shake if you can afford it.

ya, definitly bike uphills. I went from having huge legs because of hockey to even bigger because of biking. I started biking and now when I look straight down, I can't see my kneecaps because my quads are so big.

You can work your calves real nice if you can find a sitting leg press. Instead of putting your entire foot on the press move your feet down to the bottom until half your foot is off the press. Now raise your ankles back and forth and you should feel your calves tightening and relaxing, it works well.

Do a jump squat. Where you jump land in squat down and jump from there. You are going to gain muscle and be able to jump higher.

i do these squat things were you stand on the front of your foot (kinda like standing on your tip toes) arms straight out into a fist, sqaut down, touch the floor, come back up, all while standing on your tip toes. do 100 every night. super good for your calfs, make you jump so much higher

If you truly want strong legs without lifting, listen to me. Not trying to sound cocky, but I know what im talking about. Plyometrics will give you EXTREMELY strong legs. I have been jumping in track and field for the past 3 years, and plyos have helped me become a MUCH stronger and more explosive jumper, wiht almost all of the power coming out of my quads, hamstrings and calves. Bound 100 meters on a local track, and if you don't know what bounding is it is basically taking huge strides while running, many people call it "prancing." Also, One legged hops are clutch. Hop 50 meters down a track on your right leg, focusing on bringing your right knee out in front of you each time. The next 50 use your left leg. There are so many more things i could go into detail about without using weights. I have never lifted in my 3 years, and through tons of plyos, speed workouts (repeat 200s, 300s, 400s) and luckily good genes my legs have become very strong, and have helped me suceed in track. If you want more detailed stuff pm me

this is so true, and what i was goign to say. Right now im training to bring my 40 yarder under 4.4 and my program is all sprinting and plyos there so good for you

I've never had to do leg work outs cause I've been skiing my whole life. I can leg press the whole stack at my school but then completly suck at any other machine. It's kinda funny

wall sits for increasing length of time, or these things where you jump up, then drop down to a pushup position, do a pushup, bring your knees in and under your arms and then jump up again. the idea with the jumps is to do them as high as you can with your arms up.

do them for about a minute, or do 10 in a row really fast.

added bonus of working your arms and stomach muscles.

my netball coach makes us do them...and they work.

i have chuck liddell pulverize my calves will tito ortiz jabs my thighs into mush. i can't walk for a couple days after, and i have some mild strokes because of the blood clots, but i gain like 10lbs everytime i do it.

leg lifts: lay down, hands under ur ass, legs together and lift them up a couple inches off the ground and then lower them to like an inch off (do a whole bunch)

scissors: same body position (laying down etc) but then lift and then seperate ur legs and move them back and forth and up and down like scissors

DON'T RUN!

Aerobic exercise will keep you lean, hence you won't gain as much muscle mass, but you will get tone. If you want to increase your leg size, do squats, lunges, leg presses, calf raises and leg extensions. those will jack your legs up.

Biking is better. Use low gears so that you keep your cadence lower and you have to really push the gears arround.

well in the winter i ski, and the usmmer i play catcher in baseball and bike for atleast 2hours a day..so i guess u could say i have quite large legs
