4 star General McChrystal was waaaaaaayy out of line in publically subverting his commander in chief. You are not a politician, youre a general Stan. You don't leak information. You are a member of the military apparatus, ie you have no rights, you have no say, you do what youre told in the chain of command and unfortunately even for 4 star generals, that chain of command ends at the President of the United States of America. That was an utterly dumb move in a war you have moral authority in.
That said, what the fuck Obama. What could you possibly do to push one of the most decorated and accomplished military men into the position he's in now? What the fuck does a leftist orphan from Chicago know about waging war? Listen to the man dammit. We all had suspcions that you sucked at national security, and while I began to believe you were somewhat competant, you fuck it up by alienating yourself from some of the best brass around. From the sound of it, it doesn't seem like one angry guy pissed off at Obama either, seems like a deeper internal issue.
Just to be clear:
4 Star General Stanley McChrystal's qualifications:-West Point Grad-82nd Airborne-7th Special Forces Group -Detachment Alpha-Intelligence-24th Mechanized Infantry-75th Ranger commander Company A-Strong personal relationship with Hamid Karzai-Strong endorsement from Robert Gates
Obama's qualifications:-Straight hood-1/2 term as Senator-uhh....-Talks a tough talk?

He gave Obama no choice. I have gone back and fourth a lot on this one but in the end there was no choice but to relieve him of his position.

There was a really good debate on NPR this morning but I cant find the transcript. Basically McChrystal did this to himself, which is sad because McChrystal is probably the best man for the job, but his arrogance and loose mouth around reporters got him in too much trouble this time.

I'm all for freedom of speech, but you cant expect to keep your job after saying that about your boss. Come on dude.

Somebody i know who has been in the navy for a very long time said something to the effect of, if your a higher up in the military (as in you answer to the president, such a s a general), you CANT say how you feel about the commander and chief if its negative, and your better off just changing your opinion if its a negative one. Thats not me talking, and i really have no idea. Thats just what somebody said.

Ranger tag, Special Forces tag, four stars. I'd say he has a chip on his shoulder but there isn't any fucking room. What a loss.

so not only do you assume hes a teenager, you also generalize every skier and/or teen out there as unintelligent with no strong basis of knowledge outside of skiing?
good going retard

Makes you wonder how terrible of a leader Obama is, when he pushes a 4-star general to finally break down and run his mouth about him.

Doubtful, but I REALLY hope he comes out with a tell-all book about how terrible Obama is.

actually, as far as i can tell, he never claimed to have military intelligence nor experience. he was just saying that obama is pushing out a man who's extremely experienced and intelligent in order to do things his way. There's a reason the general got to be an advisor-because he had the experience and knowledge.

anyone watch the daily show and see stewart ragging on obama, then realize that more than half of his audience and viewership probably voted for obama and yet are still laughing at his jokes?

the hypocrisy of our generation is amazing. hardly anyone has an identity or an ideology that can't be coerced. sad.

And if i had to guess, there is probably a legitimate reason for him getting pushed out as well. He also mocked Joe Biden. When it comes down to it, i think its a matter of principal. A 4 star general who has been in the military as long as he has, should know that its not okay to run your mouth about your commanding officer (i guess thats what its called), or in this case THE commander and chief.
Its like how with a lot of teachers, if you fail to cite a source in a paper, even if its inconsequential in the grand scheme of things and you truly didn't mean to cause harm or plagiarize, you will still get a zero on the paper as a matter of principal.
Then again, what do i know. I'm just a teenager who skis (i actually snowboard).

Stewart rags on anyone in the government, and I for one am glad he's not pandering to a specific side, it lets him produce consistently great satire.

he was favorable towards the democrats then the republicans if i recall. pandering to his audiences political spectrum. now his once 'vote for change' audience is laughing at all his obama jokes. fair weather stances and only following whats popular to hate on at the current moment. the reason for saying my last sentence in my previous post.

I think you mistook what i was saying. Op said "what does obama now about waging war," then someone said "what does a teenage skiier know about waging war," then someone made a statement insinuating that the aformentioned poster was assuming that the op was a teenager and that all teenagers are ignorant fools, to which i responded with my above post.

Hope that clears things up.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Obama gave McChrystal everything he wanted leading up to this point. Wherever McChrystal ended up was entirely his own doing, not Obama's.

I agree with every single thing this man said about Obama, but still, it is completely outrageous that these comments were made. He should have resigned, called Fox news, and signed a10 million dollar book deal revealing everything he knows about Obama. He'd be a courageous whistleblower. On that note, we need this inept fool out of office.

also wondering if you guys are implying that the past 8-9 years have been full of exemplary military expertise & practices ...maybe the military hasn't been in control from the beginning, but there are plenty of reasons to say it's time to find some new experts.

Here's a list of McChrystal's disqualifications:

Pat Tilman cover up (probably enough to discredit the guy in some books)

Marja operation a 'bleeding ulcer'

Kandahar Op behind schedule

and tale a look at how well the afghan army has turned out under his training -- soldiers can't read, do dope, go awol, steall paychecks of those under their command...they couldn't shoot straight until some Dutch or German soldiers zeroed their sights.

this.
have u even been following the last two years? he basically gave him every single thing he wanted. the only thing i heard about otherwise was when mcchrystal requested 50k troops and obama only gave 40k but still went and pressured nato for the last 10k.
this guy dug himself a hole
oh, and from the UCMJ -
Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

i couldnt agree with you more, the majority of the kids in my school are like "yea, go obama, hes black" but it doesnt matter if hes black or white. Now dont get me wrong, im not racist, but young adults are voting for him just because they think it would be "cool" to have a black president. And when i ask kids in my school what their position on abortion is, who voted for Obama, they say "naw abortion is fucked up"
I'd like to end with a quote "My president is black, my lambos blue, and i be goddamned if my rims ain't too, my moneys light green and my jordans light grey" -Young Jeezy

if there is one thing that the military values- its is discipline and undying faith in your leader
the general is not some executive at work, who gets pissed at the ceo and runs his mouth a little bit- he is a subordinate to the commander in chief- if Obama said to him go run 50 miles nonstop-guess whos running 50 miles?-no matter what your level in the military, you never, ever, criticize your ;leaders publicly- especially like that

the guy was also a scumbag- he was trying to cover up pat tilmans death as being shot by taliban rather than a fellow soldier, he leaked back ops information to a ny times reporter- he had over 100 hours of demerits at West Pint0 the only reason he even passed was because his dad was a 2 star general
so while he is an effective special ops general- he is by no means an effective commander of nato forces
heres the link to the article
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/119236

my brother(Marine Force Recon) has met with the guy a few times- the dudes a bamf- but this position is more about politics then tactics- he'll probably get his command of joint special forces again

Sad thing was it wasn't even McChrystal that said much of anything was it? It was his aids. All McChrystal really said was essentially "I wish he had listened to me and given me some more troops".

My question though is why the FUCK were troops talking to the Rolling Stones reporter? They should know better by now:

"Well if they didn't give us some dope smoking peace freak writer"

Is the general feeling on Rolling Stones reporters in the military.

maybe he should have swallowed his pride and kept the only man available that actually knows the strategy of the current operations in afghanistan. rather then put in a substitute that is getting thrown into the meat grinder without the first thing about how business is being conducted.

Petrius (I know I fucked up the spelling) was McChrystal's boss in Iraq and was the one that wrote the book on counter insurgency. The book that McChrystal had been using.
