Well only seen two new films for the year:redtape and super but i have to say that gagnier's segment althought short has to be one of the sickest segments for this season....comments?

his seg in high five has fucking amazing skiing so much rediculous stuff thrown down but all stylie as hell, the only part that annoys me in it is that they have him talk a bit to much

his segment in Redtape is dope but I think that to really see where he is at you would have to watch Assault from Advance Vision..

from watching high 5 i can only say this: i thought we all learnt form kristis seg last year that having long discussions about your falls reduces the effect and makes you look like a self-loving dumbass. other than that it was a sick seg though, diggin it to the max. those crossed grab thingys were crazy

^Well I didn't feel he came off as 'self digging' in High Five at all. At first I was dissapointed with all the commentary but now I think it's cool they did that. It's only one segment in the movie and his english is awsome. 'I thought I was going to dead, but I am still alive!'

His part in Red Tape sucked. His rail skills were so sketchy,and with all the hype I was pretty dissapointed. I didn't like his air tricks at all,either. I hope he does better in High Five. I thought Red Tape wasn't very good at all. The much-hyped Iceland segment had the only good cinematography in the film (excluding Belan's pipe run) but still it came out pretty boring.

Dion talking to Olenick,though...THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME :D

redtape is sick its a chill film that doesnt bore you and its simply good times. Doesnt get old at all after liker 4 segments.

48 feet is like 14 metres. Red Tape was a fuckin chill movie, but i still havent seen Dion's, and Larose's part, when i went to return the movie, they were all out at the time.

gagnier is friggen nuts, hes so good. last year in Union was an eye opener

 
Red Tape was a is a good movie but its not as good as X or Session 1242. Gagniers part was a HUGE dissapointment. Rails were good but jumps were super ugly and sketchy. I hope his segment in High Five is better.

 
wrong, and wrong again. gagnier's part in red tape, how was it a dissappointment? i bet its the first you've seen of him ever, and he kills it. plenty of 270's on, lots of backslides, which you never see in movies, tons of lipslides as well, and combinations of the tricks i just mentioned. ridiculous. and the urban rails he slides...check out the jumps onto them; small. and how could you not be blown away by that huge multikink at the end? what the hell is wrong with you guys?

also, i think redtape was 10X the movie X was..X is a horrible excuse for a movie. random skiing scattered all around with an annoying ass soundtrack...yes the skiing is top notch, but thats all that is top notch; the movie, if it can be called that, is horrible. no flow or feeling whatsoever. and yes, session 1242 was alright as well, but wayyyy to hyped up for its own good, and personally, i would watch redtape over 1242 anyday if i wanted to see a great film.

and some dude above me said only iceland, and the pipe shots of belan were good cinematography, i ask what about larose? dion?rinfret? burke? their segments had some of the most stunning shots ive seen in a long time.

wow, yeah this post was long, but i cant comprehend how people can hate on retdape, and even worse, gagniers segment.

gagnier is one of the best skiers ever, his style is nuts, he can ski anything, he is one of my favorite riders.

yea his part in redtape blew me away, ive seen almost all the top (most hyped) vids this year (x, wski, highfive, redtape) and that part was def in top 5. i liked it better than his part in high five fo sure. plehouse has amazing style when they film and use the fisheye really well.

For my liking,the filming wasn't that impressive,really. Don't say that shit about 'Why don't you try and do better,you cunt' I have my views and likings and last year in Forward and this year in X the cinematography was excellent,the editing was really fresh in both films (Thank you,Schawgs in X).

Highlights in Red Tape:

-Sarah Burke's falls,pretty gruesome for a girl,but most of them had been seen before so it took the shock value away.

-Rinfret's walking in the desert,until he found the TV,was excellent and it had an unique feel to it,as if some amazing skiing was gonna be thrown down (which happened).

-Belans pipe run,how many smooth spins can you incorporate to a run. That pipe was loooooong.

-Okay,almost every athlete intro was good,with,again,unique feel. They were just let down by the skiing wich was good but not amazing.

Lowlights:

-Gagnier. So hyped and albeit he is a better skier than me and he slides gnarly rails,to me it seems as his style is almsot unbearable to watch on rails. Reminds me of Crichton in Stereotype. Lanks,there are a lot of 270's on by almost every damn athlete in every movie this year and also people on this site,so son't lay it on me,they were sketchy,as were the backslides and crossslides and so on. If Gagnier would be stylier (to me,again) he would definately take the cake for being one of the best railsliders in the world. The huge rail at the end of his segment? Remember Liam Downey's huge rail at the end of HIS segment? Gag's could have been a little longer,but the style incorporated went to Liam.

-Shaky shots,too much fisheye shots,which were shaky..I don't know,this movie was so hyped by some guys in the MM cult that I had really good hopes for it. Yet it got trapped under the monster of a movie that is X. Random shots put together? Sure,Lanks,whatever you say. I especially like Henke's part which reminds me of Fight Club and the flying around the world.

-Problem's with the DVD. Dion's part started out great,too bad I can't see the most of it. I tried to rewind it from Bibby's part, but only got to see like 30 seconds of the end of his part.

That's about it. I give it 8-, with Forward and X

being 9½.

Dude I dont see how you say that. X had good skiing but overall the movie was sooo cheesy. I dont know who picks the music for it but it had no flow or similarity...just random ass songs. Segments jumped from 70's disco music to gansta rap then a girl punk rock band. It had no theme or flow it was awful. The skiing was good though for sure. But X was just another 'ski porn' movie, random shots thrown together. Youre probably to young to understand though, you will eventually.

 
i totally agree with dspin7x, X is simply mainstream ski porn. great skiing, but nothing else to it.

yes, forward had excellent cinematography. it is one of my favourites, period. but please do not put forward and X together in the samesentance, as X is levels below what forward achieved last year.

and how many other people did you see throw a 270 on 270 out of the big mammoth ledge rail? and onto the little slc handrail with no jump whatsoever? gagniers skills are levels aboveeveryone else, but in order to realize this you have to catch all the subtleties that make his tricks extra unique and difficult.

It's all about taste,I guess. I won't see the greatness of Red Tape,I know it. I respect Plehouse as they kept a mellow feel throughout the movie,but Gagnier's part,Josh Bibby having like 4 tricks,Dion's lack of a segment (I thought they fixed that,guess not) and the short running time keep this from going to the top of my favourite ski movies list. Dspin7x, you could call me young,I turn 18 in a couple of weeks,but much older people on this site probably could have said the same things as I,or liked X better.

That was the first time that I saw Gagniers skiing. I thought he would be 10x better! He did some crazy tricks but the his style was way too ugly for a pro skier.

Red Tape is a good movie but not in the same level that X. X have better skiing, editing and filming. Red Tapes filming was very sketchy.

 
gagnier is doign his own thing and you cant even figure out how much his skiing and the way he thinks about tricks is different then the way you do...

Skiing with this kid show you how great of an athlete he is, alwayz pushing the limits and trying some things that are close from being imposssible.

Sometimes he just go for it and do not care much about his steezenes as some would say but when he does, it's because he is trying things that he is the only one trying .

And as i mentionnedfrom the beginning, all those shots tyou saw in red tapes where on big hits and big super hard rails but if you wanna see how sick the kid his, watch assault
