G20 Protest in Toronto

it was a peaceful protest with NO one out of line, they boxed them off with riot police, and right now, everyone is being handcuffed and lead to buses to be brought to the criminal processing center.

250 people arrested with no explanation, Police wont tell anyone whats happening.

How is this a response to what i wrote?

Innocent bystanders were held for 4 hours against their will.

It crosses so many human rights lines, people weren't aloud to go to the bathroom, eat or get any medical assistance.

Police state much?

never quite understood burning out police cars. I mean, they're government property. Go ahead and burn them. The population will get to buy new ones to replace the ones they destroyed. And you give the police brand new cruisers, which is a rare thing in some departments.

Again, fuck, get your shit straight before you argue.

They arrested and took the SMALL group of peaceful protesters away, then continued to enclose on a group of 250 civilians.

No one did ANYTHING wrong.

I was appart of the biggest of those groups, just go out of jail after 22 hours in a 200sq/ft cell with 39 other people.

oh yeah, WE WEREN'T PROTESTING SHIT! Police in Riot gear blocked off the street we were on, on both sides, refused to let anyone leave and then arrested EVERYONE, even people who were just walking in the wrong place at the wrong time and a middle aged couple who stepped out of a restaraunt for a smoke.

oops sorry I'm not up to date, I was in the biggest of three cornered groups that were arrested last night.

pretty wild, I had a relatively chill cell though. Lots of young guys and an old native guy and an old white bum with a huge beard. native dude smuggled in a lighter so we could melt off our plastic zip tie cuffs and a condom which we blew up used to invent the sport of "condom ball".

floor was fucking filthy though, looks like it used to be a green screen floor and they just sanded it, so everyones jeans looked super acid washed from all the dust.

my buddy got moved around to 3 other cells though. from where I was I heard a lot of chanting and yelling coming from "the other side", he said people were basically being treated and acting like animals. Guess I got lucky?

yeah but alot of the protesters arent even from the area/country. just came here for a piece of the action.

I really wouldnt expect there to be big G8/G20 protests in a city thats across the country

Yah just got back from being soaked...I'll write something longer later, but things started from Bay and King where prayers, and a couple funny guys on loadspeakers were doing there thing and there were about 600 people which inlcuded the bikers who had just finished their peaceful bike around (included biking around downtown ringing their bells and yelling peace). Then word got around that protestors were being held at Queen and Duffrin so we headed west along Queen from Bay and met police at every block and after 10 minutes at each intersection before police broke away and we kept heading west till we hit spadina. We thought this would be the same as the past intersections but the police just slowely blocked off the possible exits. Everyone was peacful. 1 man was burning money. I heading east for a second and when I headed back they had blocked off the east entrance to Q and S. Stood out in rrain for 2 hours and took photos. Many riot suited. The youtube video of people chanting o canada and then the cops charging was very sad!
Watching cp24, people just released. I was photographing event for press.

cant wait to see your photos pippin

this shits getting nuts out there

and that edit that was posted above, "G20 battle of toronto" or whatever, was so sick. i wanna go downtown and film/photograph my own stuff, but work and personal safety are of greater concern most likely.

i tried to embed but it wouldnt work in the preview, i'll at least make it clicky

that same dude has been EVERYWHERE. he was standing on top of a statue in the edit made by yeah films posted above, and he was on a cop car in photos on the CTV site. he's like a protest celebrity.

he's the one who lit the first of 2 cop cars on fire on queen west.

And gordie, come onnnn, i live at john n wellington, in the thick of it, you shoulda come. Wasn't nearly as dangerous as it seemed.

I shot 6 rolls of film in 4 hours

$$$

the first of the "G20 battle" videos seemed almost surreal...apocalyptic looking almost. weird to see my city in such a huuge mess..

yo hes as nuts as i thought then.

dude, idk, im seriously considering it tbh. it seems like a dangerous but nuts good time

plus you're right, worth it for getting the footage

Cant wait to see those shots pippin!! I am feeling like i am missing out on the action though, i really wanted to get in there with the T2i... and that new salem song in the youtube edit is SIIICK.

went down to toronto this weekend for a concert. was pretty scary seeing the state that toronto was in. I passed by the edge, and it was in full lockdown.

Never thought Toronto would have something like this happen

whats going on anyway? is canada protesting for more money? this shit isn't on the news or in the lastest bbc headlines.

So two awesome stories have come out of this.

1.) my brother's friend Andrew was taking pictures of the stuff, and everyone started yelling sit down. He wasn't paying attention and got shot in the chest with a rubber bullet.

2.) My uncle is a firefighter in cabbage town, a protester tried to fuck with him in his gear(shoving him and stuff) and he clocked him. The police dragged the kid away and my uncle went on and put out some rando fire.

I followed all the events from home not that far from where all this happens, and even after seeing both sides of the story I have to say that I'm going to side with the police on this one. There were a lot of people with completely viable causes who were there protesting and if it had just been them then that would have been fine, but the presence of "anti police-state" people and anarchists like the black bloc totally ruined everything. Just because there were a lot of police there doesn't mean shit had to be so evil looking and bad, if everything had been "peaceful" like they said then it would have all been good.
Some people argued that the police let shit happen on Saturday to justify the expensive security budget but it can just as easily be argued that the protestors fucked shit up to provoke the police to make themselves look like the victims in the aftermath and make the police look bad....

If you followed the events on TV all you saw was the same ten minutes of black bloc smashing shit.

If you were arrested for being outside and put into a tiny jail cell with 40 other people you would not be siding with the police.
