G20 Protest in Toronto

There's a big protest going down in downtown Toronto right now. I was down at MEC grabbing shit for camp and I saw a bus full of riot police go by and this cop in MEC told me a riot was starting to happen like 2 blocks from where i was. Anyone in Toronto turn on CTV, these protestors are smashing shit and burning cars and just causing a mad ruckus. Not sure what the point of having mounted police there are but whatever...
I walked right up to one of the riot shielders and took a picture il upload it later but there are probably better pictures online somewhere.
Shits nuts hahah youtubes gonna blow up with videos tomorrow!

Well these retards broke the first rule of protesting, as soon as violence is created your cause is lost. Respect gets respect, shit worked for Ghandi.

I fucking hate people who go to protests just to start shit.

there's a big difference between, for example, the peaceful protesters marching for abortion being included in women's health care (or whatever it was they were marching for)and the anarchists with they're fucking masks on just destroying shit and hiding behind the idea that they are "protesters".

The same thing happened here in Vancouver during the Olympics when it was just a bunch of kids trying to start shit by setting fires etc. if you're gonna protest and stand up for what you believe in, at least show your face when you do it instead of covering it with a mask and destroying shit for no good reason.

someone call her

fuck the protestors... dumb ass anarchists who dont know shit and dont know what they want causing shit in my city, like what the fuck will breaking windows and burning cars do to support their opinions and ideals? fuck those bitches

this dumb fucking kids brains only work on a parallel circuit. if they had a sit in or not even showed up at all then the government would have had a hard time justifying spending a billion dollars on security. all they are doing is proving to some degree that these measures were necessary. if these kids hated the conservatives so much they would do nothing and let the population vote them out for spending our tax dollars on an over reaction. they do it to themselves morons.

Shit's going down. I've been around all day, gonna be around all tomorrow.

I was feet from both cop cars on fire, its like a fucking police state here. My view from the balcony is like the apocalypse. Chain link fence, and police shoulder to shoulder everywhere.

One thing I'll say is riot police don't fuck around.

And the violence? I actually enjoy it. The city is incredibly interesting right now.

FUCK THE G20.

FUCK THE G20 for sure.

There are the people who actually go there to peacefully protest and then the others who come along just to fuck shit up and have a good time.

When I think about all this crap, I don't understand why Harper decided to hold the G20 in Toronto. He basically asked for trouble. He should've done it in the middle of the woods somewhere, where the perimeter could easily be secured by the police. Montebello is an example...

Yeah, I was listening to 102.1 the edge. They usually broadcast through a storefront studio but they went back into their building because the starbucks, urban outfitters and other stores were getting trashed. Eaton center is on lockdown too. I hope they don't take down the edge :(

Exactly.
People have been bitching for months about the amount of money being spent on security because 'this is Canada and nothing is going to happen'. Now it looks like money well spent (although really I think everything about the G20 summit is a waste of money).

cool, maybe you all can talk about your trust funds and how your parents don't understand you as you car pool back to rosedale. thats what the majority of all those kids are. all kids that come from well educated, reasonably wealthy families (compared to the GDP per capita)

just bunch of spoiled brats suffering from upper middle class guilt. don't you have a portrait of bill ayers to jerk off to?

I'm not sure if you're implying that you think I'm an activist, but i'm not.

These "anarchists" (even if they're so far from the real anarchist) are fucking babies, but they're making shit interesting, so I don't mind them too much.

'n hey, I pretty much hate corporate America and capitalism too, so seeing some broken starbucks glass makes me smile.

'n hey,

FUCK THA POLICE

I was at the TFC (toronto football club... Soccer game) and we could see the billowing smoke from another (4th?) burned police car. fuckin 100 5y.o kids behind us thought the "city is on fire!!! RUNNN!!!!"
but the game was shit, it rained near the end. 8 shots TOTAL. 0-0 draw and the best players are at the world cup. but yeah, we could see a fuckload of smoke. good job protestors.

oh and why not just have the world leaders... one night like in bed or something like wearing PJs just skype eachother. same some money eh.

oh and there was only 1 protestor in muskoka... in this whole feild, there was a 22month old kid holding a sign that read: "More Cookies for Kids"

only protestor.

i love the photo of the kid crying when he got taken by the ri po.

and the girl holding flowers up to the police. that kind of works when protesting war or violence, but its less effective of a message when its a bunch of violent pricks burning cop cars in protest of capitalist governments.

Well said. These protesters are just mindless assholes who will never change anything except for the fact that they aren't helping anyone in anyway, since when did breaking windows and setting fires ever help change anything for the better? These assclowns need to gtfo of t.o. I can honestly say I'm in full support of the police force especially after the frenzy today. If the protesters did nothing but protest in a civil manner, maybe they could have gotten a better point across and show that the force used and money spent was in fact a waste. That way maybe the government/g20 leaders etc may take some sort of notice.
I think?

These global summits and whatnot always attract the anarchists and dumbshits who do the same thing in every city. I'm always surprised that cities choose to host these events because the bland peaceful protesters get overshadowed by the trash-everything-capitalist crowd. But it is fun to watch on TV. Seattle had some WTO riots, and it was interesting to say the least.

it's sad really. I have some friends who are really into the protesting thing. I feel like their cause is lost by petty vandalism and unnecessary violence.

Not everything is as it seams though. You should never underestimate the sneakiness of the police. They are known to place undercover cops within the crowd of protesters to promote aggressiveness within the crowd. We are humans, once one person starts throwing rocks, it's a lot easier and more "acceptable" for you to pick up a rock, even if that's not what you planned on doing.

I think that it is hard for us to assume too much as to what is fully going down in Toronto right now, all we need to know is that the G20 is totally unwanted, not necessary, and a waste of OUR money, no matter what happens with the protestors - their reasons and intentions are still true.

Lastly - anarchy isn't violence... that is something important to remember. If someone is claiming to be an anarchist while being violent towards the rest of society... well, that person wouldn't survive very long in a real anarchist society. It's a lot easier to get rid of the unwanted when there are no rules.

snipe. this is taken from a news site, it IS the G20 no doubt.
and the fire trucks have been seen to just drive by the lit police cars, duno what that means... "but they might be diversions" says one CBC Reporter.
alg_toronto_protest_v2.jpg

I'm almost certain they're diversions. I was by both cars on queen st. when they were on fire, there was no firetruck at the first fire for about 25 minutes. The second there weren't any police for about 20.

I don't understand these protestors, they could easily get rid of the police by throwing a semtex on their shields.

Duh...

i feel like all your posts are like this.. assumptions + kneejerk reactionary stuff + something about guilt + a little hate

they leave and semi-gut cop cars for crowds to take over, so they're in a place thats easily controllable (i.e. queen from peter to spadina)

They distract the masses away from real, important stuff, and let them have some fun.

p.s. what's happening now is absurd.

The OPP and riot police have been holding a large group of innocent people hostage for 3 hours, it's raining HARD, and they wont give anyone water or medical assistance.

disgusting.
