FX7 vs. GL2

Dear NS,Im looking to buy my first camera at the end of the summer. At first I thought I would defiantly get the FX7 but I looked into the GL2 and it looks good too. Ive googled it and lots of people said the FX7 would kill the GL2 in good light situations but then why is there only a $200 price difference? This will be my first real camera. I've made edits on shitty little Sony Handycams before but I want to step it up. Also, I don't have a very fast computer. Its a Dell Laptop that I use for school and its not that slow but probably to slow for editing in HD. Tell me what you think would be better for me. Thanks

no i dont know how old the GL2 is but ive heard good things about it and i didn't know the fx7 was a handy cam but my old camera was a $400 crap sony handycam so its definitely a huge upgrade

the gl2 technology is about a decade old. good camera for the longest time Its starting to fade out though. i would personally go with the fx7

You'll be kicking yourself if you don't go HD. FX7 is probably the cheapest option which will work pretty well for ski edits, however if you're interested in short films and other things like that, it's probably not the best option.

personally id go with the gl2, it gets a great picture. the fx7 footage ive seen has all been super bland. the gl2 has a great film like look to it. vx2100's also pretty nice, though if you can try to find a dvx.

^some people like the look of gl2 footage, its a great camera to start out with and people are selling them for cheam now

DONT pay more then 800 for a GL2, there not that great. Besides the Fx7 is HD, why would you want to get a gl2 over that?

what? im just saying that i havent seen any fx7 footage that really did anything for me, oh sweet its HD! but just the fact that it is HD isnt a good enough reason to pick it over something SD that may get a better picture. i have seen alot of amazing looking footage come from a GL2, particularly landis's stuff. and if he can get a DVX, then even better. maybe you could show me some fx7 footage that looks good? i myself just havent seen anything that great.

yeah im sure you can get great footage from an fx7, but so far i havent seen anything from an fx7 or fx1 that i like better than alot of footage from a dvx. i dont have anything against HD camera's ive seen footage from an xha1, hvx, etc... that i absolutely loved. but like you said it needs to be in the right hands.

Just do not get the GL2! Its heavy, and the technology is pretty old. I think it should be between fx7 and the dvx. The dvx can shoot 24p which is great!

i thought he was asking FX7 vs GL2 not FX1... FX1 is a few steps up from the fx7 in quality features and price so i dont get why that was dragged in
