FWT Hakuba Japan - 1/18 Livestream & Discussion

The first event of the 2019 FWT is about to kickoff in Hakuba, Japan. Last year's stop had to be rescheduled because there was too much snow. This year it sounds like conditions are more stable despite some recent storm cycles. Kye Peterson was just added as a wild card and Tanner Hall is in the building to do some REAL skiing on REAL mountains. Not seeing the final Hakuba rider roster anywhere but I'm sure it's stacked.

Stoked to see Andrew pollard in there but from what I've seen of him he might be in over his head since I dont know that he's done tons of big mountain stuff

Alta certainly has some big stuff but not the same as some of the stops on the fwt, either way it'll be fun to watch.

Um he grew up destroying alta. I think he will be just fine.

Dont get me wrong, I want to see him kill it, I was just curious what others thought since that group is so stacked and this is his first time in the fwt.

I mean, you don't just magically get invited to the FWT without showing up and doing well in the FWQ events (excluding wild cards) so I'm sure APoll will be just fine. And like someone else said, he's been destroying Alta his whole life and plenty of other rad shit, he'll be fine.

I bet Markus Eder wins the FWT this year

Eder is insane. He reminds me of Richard Permin. One of the best all-around skiers in the world right now. His MSP parts are nuts.

His opening segment in Drop Everything was sick. Can’t really think of a more well rounded skier outside of Candide and maybe tanner.

That was really sick. so impressed with tanner's run. I thought he was setting a double backy and opened up but he stomped so probably not. good for him, hyped to see him back in comps!

Evan mceachran grew up skiing on 500m hills, I don't think your argument is valid.

It looks like the snow was deceptively variable, maybe powder over crust or wind pack? It looks like some guys got tossed in ways that seemed improbable with normal pow conditions.

Majority of tanner’s run for those who missed it. He looks so strong on his skis, like his legs were really in shape for this. Also caught such a nice tranny on that last hit

The section after the backy to the three looked a bit sketchy. Asides from that he threw down, which seemed to appeal to the judges. Like everyone I'm down to see how he does in the steep.

This stop seemed more focused on tricks than line choice, which made sense given the venue. Though I wish they had more options to choose from - seemed a bit limited in terms of hits and line choices. Eder’s run was insane, well deserving of #1. Stoked to see Tanner land #2. Interested to see how it pans out on the rest of the tour.

its so fun watching these because every time you start to feel bored with the same old turns, tricks and line choices, somebody does something completely different and insane. I felt like every time i looked away i would hear the judges go nuts and have to rewatch the run. its also cool to see how different styles manifest themselves on big mountain comps, the guy going mach 10 and doing straight airs has just as good of a chance as the guy doing little tricks on every possible hit, and i think that's rad

Anyone have any clue what skis Kye is riding on? I've seen bits of them on his Insta and from the comp today and don't recognize the logo at all

He was riding Foon skis but I think he's starting his own company with Foon out of his shop.

This is exactly why I like big mountain comps better than slope comps. Slope comps are sick to watch too but it gets a little repetitive after a while.

Stoked for SKI BOSS with the Silver!

I'll be interested to see him ski some of the more technical areas. I feel like skiers like Tanner, Bentchetler, Pollard, etc. would crush FWT events with hills like this one versus guys like Tabke, Barkered, etc..

So question for the n00b, do people follow the FWQ tour around to get more points racked up or what? I have know idea how this whole deal works, inform me...

You know these boys had to qualify in by being at the top of their region in FWQ events

Interesting to note that just by showing up you get points so you can literally do as many as possible to rack up points. They literally host tons a year

Anyone else trying to watch the live stream of the Kicking horse event? I'm getting ridiculous lag, basically just skips every run.

Yea, it's not just you. Matt Masson and I are trying to cover it and the connection on FWT's end is atrocious.

Marcus eder is going to take it this year.

especially now considering tanner essentially did a throw away run today. Such an odd line choice from ski boss.

If you watch the NS Insta story he says he was planning on a dub backy off that hit but the takeoff was sketch when he got up to it. I agree on the line choice though, if he'd hit some more features his score would have been much better
