FWT 2022

Was dope af. I just finished watching the comp in person at Baqueira beret. Just wanna say that it was insane like Max Palms double backie or Abel Moga’s run

There’s a FWQ 2* that just happened at my home resort and a FWQ 4* that’s happening on monday also in revy, people are throwing down so hard it’s so dope to watch.

I was especially happy to see the young guns also going for Big cliffs and not just 360 360 360 off everything, keeping the heart of the tour alive, super nice to see Abel get rewarded like that but Max deserved that for sure, I think only Ross, and maybe a healthy freeland could have pulled that one off.

I wish there was more fwq events covered because a lot of times the terrain is more relatable than the shit on the fwt

So awesome to see the creativity in lines and absolute balls from the youngin's. Max youngest in tour history and goes double backflip. Crazy. Carl & Turdells lines were super underwhelming and over scored but almost everyone else seemed to bring something unique and different to the table. Also Olivia McNeil went huge with her well deserved win. Stoked for more from her this season

Such a good comp with so many solid runs right from the start. I screamed at my phone during Aymar’s run, that was absurd

The entrance to that line alone... When Aymar looks gripped you know it's for real

really dope comp. The first FWT dub back had me super fired up, not to mention how massive everyone was going. stoked to see what the next stops bring.

Can't help but wonder how Tanner feels about the dub backflip. It's all he wanted while on the tour and Max comes out and nails it first run on the tour. Props.

Loved the venue. Lots of options, good length, snow looked nice and predictable. Considering Andorra is right next door hopefully the conditions stay good for thr next stop.

Personally I think Wadeck Gorak deserved to be on the podium (3rd), but that's just the way it goes.

It's really hard to properly film a big mountain tain comp unless you have a decent budget. Even with drones you'd need quite a big team (I'd guess around 10 or 12 drones/pilots).

I definitely felt Mael should have scored higher as well just for that massive send, I mean that cliff was like 60-70 feet I think onto not pow?

Agreed. You could see his disappointment when his score came up as well.

While that air was incredibly rad, I am glad it ended up where it did. Historically small bobbles and back slaps weren’t penalized very much on the FWT. Based on this event it looks like they have made a shift and everything needs to be stomped and clean to score in the top 5. I think this is good thing overall. The level of skiing is so absurd these days it adds a bit of a reason for riders to tone it down just a sliver of a back slap will keep them off the podium. In a round about way I think it helps for a safer event. Plus stomping to bolts will always beat a bigger air to back slap out.

Also mostly unrelated, the snowboarding was extremely underwhelming here which hasn’t been the case in the past

Step aside old man. The new generation is here.

Absolutely love Aymar’s approach to line choice and wish he could hold it together to get the score he deserves. Really excited to see more of Abel Moga in the coming years.

I bet Tanner was super pumped for him.

Greatest FWT event of all time and its not even close.

Abel Moga and Max Palm back to back burnt the house down

Anyone know why guys like Sam Kuch doesn’t try to get on tour? Obviously he’s got a pretty good career as a film skier but if I was in his position I’d probably be competing too

You answered your own question

didn't get a chance to watch until today. dub back was insane, stoked someone finally went for it and glad it got rewarded on the scoresheet

very bummed for grifen and kev. both are cracked skiers but seem to have the worst luck on tour. hoping they put together something sick next time!

Yo, I've actually been feeling this for awhile (that the snowboarding is boring compared to the skiing) but I definitely felt it was a more drastic difference for this event.

Especially the womens snowboarding. Like I KNOW there's gotta be a lot more lady rippers than whats represented in the fwt. The skiers are cream of the crop the snowboarders I'm not too sure

finally watched this last eve and it was sooo worth it. I cannot wait to see the rest of the tour with more to come from others like ross tester and isaac freeland.

Ive only been around a handful of IFSA Jr. events myself and it is nowhere near the level of riding or levels of energy the tour brings, but I will say that there is a big lack of freeride snowboarders at the junior level as well. Maybe 5-10 competitors total throughout multiple age categories from various clubs/programs all over, so I think part of the reason is not enough interest at the grassroots level for kids and much more so for skier kids. Lots of alpine kids don't want to chase gates anymore and don't want to ski park so freeride is an easy choice.

Also being an independent IFSA adult athlete without the financial backings of sponsors, parents, etc. is really fucking hard. If you're 18 and on the fence about it, Id try and ski for a schools club that way you still get help from an organization somewhat. Its tough to go about it on your own

He won the Junior FWT one year and was happy with that? And throwing down into powder while filming is a lot less scary than throwing down in bony, variable snow. His little brother, Adam, unleashed a hell of a run in the junior comp yesterday, though, and could have pulled the win if he skied out of his last 3.

The whitewater freeride team goes hard.

theres like 5 skiers on the freeride world tour with the Head Kore 111 and I got to try it recently and that ski is fucking magic. Its no wonder its on the podium every event. Absolute best freeride ski ive ever tried. The control and confidence you have on those skis is fucking goofy.

I thought his run was the winner today for sure. great comp.

I agreed earlier today, but after thinking about it Maxime also put down that massive floaty backflip and had a more creative line. I do like Ross’ style the best tho his turns are beautiful

Jeez this women's comp is brutal right now.

I thought after Jess Hotter's opener which was pretty solid that the others would tee off. Couldn't have been more wrong haha way too many of them hit the rocks on that small top hit. You would think after Pollard took it too slow they would figure it out but nope. They were practically stopping before the hit every single time

Ross is great to watch, but personally I can't handle Isaacs poo-stance.

I think Isaac is doing that because he's still recovering from his injury more than anything and he's protecting his knee. I mean the dude tore his knee up last March I think. As much as I love seeing him on tour, I personally think he should have taken a year off of it to recover fully.

That became a tragic comedy after the third female got bodied landing on the exact same rocks the exact same way. Each year it seems like its all half the women's field can do to simply ski down without falling.
