Fuzzy bases after tune???

Hi everyone. I just got 2 pairs of skis tuned at a local shop. Just asked for sharpen and wax. I got my skis back and the bases of both look fuzzy. There’s like a very fine lint like coating on the bases of both pairs. Bases definitely don’t have that fresh wax feel. Found out when I was already at the mountain so I had to ski them and they do not feel like they have a fresh wax. I’ve never seen this is my 10 years of skiing/getting tunes.

Does anyone know what it is and if the shop missed something? I’m assuming it has to do with a base grind but I’m not really sure.

Either they didn't hot wax, or ran a base grind on an 80 grit belt without going to a 100 grit and stone grinding. Someone was either in a hurry, too stoned, or both.

UPDATE: brought them back to the shop and they were happy to wax them. Just got them back and they definitely missed the wax on the first go. All good now.

I'm sure the wax helped but this is the result of a shitty stone grind. When the wax wears off it will be bad again. In the spring, shops will often use a coarser grind than midwinter due to wetter snow. If the stone being used is old or the pressure between the ski and the stone is too high, you get this fuzzy base effect. If it stays slushy it might be ok for the rest of the season but on drier snow it will be really obvious something is not right.
