Obama is intelligent but he shot up the ladder only because of media hype. The Dems drummed him up as soon as what's his face got caught up in some sex bars. It was a good play though, it was the prime opportunity to secure him the seat from Illinois.
Both parties are screwed right now for candidates in '08. Hillary is too polarizing, Barack Obama is to young, too inexperienced, and Kerry screwed up too much in '04 to have a viable shot again. On the other side of the line Schwarzenegger is not a natural US Citizen. McCain and Giuliani are too much of centrists for the heart of the right-wing. Condi Rice would get slaughtered by the media and is to centrist on social issues. Mitt Romney could take a stab at it but his national recognition is lacking in comparison to the other potential candidates.
I think Hillary, despite her polarizing character, will grab the bid from the left. The right is a much harder call.

In order to get democrats back in majority we need a president from the south who is really middle that can steal a lot of republican votes.
And you actually you don't need to be born in the united states to be a citizen, as long as one of your parents is a US citizen you can choose what citizenship you want by the time your 18. But I'm guessing Arnold Shwartzeneggers parents weren't american.
