Future careers

petroleum engineer for me. i'll be laughing at all the people who got fucking dumb degrees like psych or sociology when i graduate right into a $100k/year job.

For the music thing i might try my luck in a band. Ive dabbled in a few but nothing really serious. If i dont have any luck there then i will probably be a studio musician.

i went to school for business/accounting. I will take over my dads furniture business in the next couple of years so im pumped about that, somebody's got to sell furniture right? lol.

I'v always been thinkinig about law, because i love to argue

but i also like to do projects thats a challenge that i really enjoy. Like i love perfecting my ski waxing and just yesterday i tried to make some custom earbud for headphones with epoxy.

this lead me to think about ski construction and design. I would kill to start my own ski company, as much as i love skiing, i love the great too. and i would also love to make my own stuff. Finishing a big essay is no where near as pleasing to me as building and perfect my own ski would

does anyone know what i would go to college for to do this? some kinda of engineer i guess, right?

still have some undergrad left, but looking to go straight into a M.Arch program (ideally in the region) then going into architecture practice. even though the work load is intense, it's divine.

almost playing with the idea of pursuing something like a doctorate in some architecture history field or an MS arch degree, and perhaps mix some teaching in there, but thats getting waaay ahead of myself

Currently in college- Environmental Science Major and for money I'm a construction laborer for a relatively small company. Im hoping I can get in with them doing some bullshit once I graduate.

15 but once im done high school im gunna go ski bum for two years, ( before i get a serious job and waht not ) then come home go to college and become a paramedic.

photography or something to do with human anatomy, i dunno though i just turned 16 so im sure i wont know what i want to do for a few more years.

well i am not sure (although i study international economics already) but either i wanna stay in this track and go to a sports company (biking OR skiing) and try to make my way up...

OR i just go for it, straight to hollywood to do something in production of movies. no matter what, i really like creating a picture, more than watching a film

Haha I go to school at Michigan Technological University. And while it's a tough school, it's not quite as bad as the University of Michigan. In other words, I have a ton of time to ski some of the best pow in the midwest! :D

im still a senior in high school, but im planning on double majoring in biology (focus in premed) and music performance. right now im working on my emt basic certification-gotta pay those students loans some how!

I wanted to be a lot of different things when i was growing up but now I really have no idea.

Im working as a bike messenger right now and I definitely dont want to do it for the rest of my life but Ive been going into a lot of architect offices and seeing all the model buildings I think I could do that I would always build models and shit out of nothing in grade 5 I built a 4 foot scale titanic out of cardboard and tape for school the thing was amazing

haha I'm a clinical psych. major/ art therapy minor. Psychologists get paid a shitload of money. Becoming a clinical psychologist in a major psych. hospital can get you like $100k/ year. I'm not sure about sociology but psychologists get paid a lot depending on what type of career you're actually into. I plan on being a clinical psychologist and probably teaching it at some point.

hopefully be a family doctor, but if i dont get in med school then a dentist and if i cant get into either i have no idea whats gonna happen to me

Freshman in college right now, planning on majoring in physics. I'm taking the pre-med requirements though, and I'll most likely end up in medical school or going to grad school in some sort of engineering. I like physics, but probably not enough to teach it and do research for a living or anything.

yeah, but how long will it take you to become a clinical psychologist at a major psychological hospital? and how much more school do you need?

It's amazing. Great school academically and one of the best ski schools in the midwest. We're almost to 200" of snow already. Bohemia is only 45 minutes away and has great backcountry powder, and its free to ski at Ripley for Tech students. If you're looking to come here, I'd recommend coming up and taking a tour this winter so you can see how much it actually dumps here. You can probably score some free lift tickets too, just mention that you want to check out the ski hill.

Sounds sick, I would be going there for mechanical engineering. I hear its pretty small though. I'll probably being coming in this summer for a tour.

The ME program is pretty darn good at Tech. And trust me, once you walk to class through a blizzard, you'll be glad it's a small campus. Anyway, hit me up with a PM if you ever have any questions.

Question: The answers that everyones given, do they actually want to do that because they like it or just because it pays a lot?

I've always loved tinkering with and designing shit as well as fixing it. I've recently gone to work with one of my dads friends who is an auto mechanic and i actually kinda like it. Plus i love old cars.
Being a struggling musician is also appealing considering that i love making music and playing guitar. However both those jobs have shitty income besides the engineer, or unless you somehow make it big or own your own shop.

Teehee. We'll see who has the last laugh, man, when your job gets outsourced to someone in India who's smarter, more diligent, and willing to work for way less than you are. Oh yeah, and I don't have to take a bunch of shitty math courses that make me want to put a soldering iron up my nose. I learn about human motivation, the massively harmful culture of capitalism, and selling crack in Harlem. Yep... I win, I think.

let's be friends

...it's early but i'll probably end up in a telecommunications related job but i'd like to do marketing. for me, and probably the majority of us, it depends on not what you know but who you know, and how much they're willing to pay you. that's the damn truth.

I have one more year left of my sports admin/event management course...

maybe marketing manager of my home mountain, or director of communications for a professional sporting club....i dunno just yet, maybe ski bum for a little while instead...

yeah, considering i go to one of the top 10 schools in the world for it; the 5th result for "petroleum engineering" in google. other institutions copy classes and stuff our professors invent. all the indians and arabic people come here to learn it. and remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i've learned stuff in calc II and calc III that is almost beautiful...

but i can't lie, and you can't either, the premise of $100k right outta college is quite appealing.

and what sort of job will you be doing? volunteering at a shelter in brownsville? professional whiner about the wrongs of society while contributing nothing? we already know that humans are lazy, capitalism works for most americans but not the rest of the world, and that harlem was in the crack game before baking soda. until then, he wins for being useful to the 99% of americans that use oil.

don't make fun of engineers unless you plan on being amish the rest of your life.
