Further discussion of Science vs. Religion

how about a new perspective..

MAYBE, God created the big bang. MAYBE, all this scientific stuff that everybody is arguing for is really because God created it that way. MAYBE God created very simple organisms and in 7 days they grew to epic proportions. MAYBE the world was a giant asteroid that God created that flew off it's gravitational path and got stuck between venus and mars.

here's the facts:

the stuff in the bible REALLY happened. Jesus was a real man, and all the amazing stuff that matthew, mark, luke, and john wrote about really happened. water to wine, healing the blind, sick, needy, etc. Now, perhaps these stories were milked a little bit to serve as examples of his greatness. but maybe Jesus had a pail of wine and just surprised everybody and i SEEMED that he was turning it to wine. remember, this book was transcribed thousands of years ago! these guys were probably pretty gullible! haha-but i don't think that a whole nation of people could be fooled by a man who never once sinned to any body's knowledge, who healed people on the spot of dying illness, and who preached the gospel until he was tortured for hours and hours, and finally crucified on the cross. and STILL he didn't falter. he forgave those killing him, and even prayed out loud as he was dying for those persecuting him! that may not be holy to some, but to me...i would have at LEAST cussed some body out. and i'd NEVER pray for their sick a**es.

who knows? only God himself. BUT, if the big bang is possible, then Jesus being the actual first descendant to God is too...it's all how you look at it. i'm trying to be as reasonable as possible, while maintaining my religion. we can argue this forever because there's no final answer right now. But i'm going to stick with this one, and maybe i might have turned a few heads while doing it. see ya.

Maybe...a spaghetti monster designed the big bang. But all traces of his ravioli was demolished in the explosion.

But seriously, take anything you read in the Bible with a grain of salt.

Remember, you don't even know exactly who wrote the various sections

And you DO know who compiled it (probably not a good thing)

The stories in the bible are not true, they did not happen and you are an idiot to belive they really happend. All they are are stories showing morals, applied ethics 2000 some odd years ago.

K, we'll call it a "phalice of eternal gay"

just for you

wtf does it matter what you call it, the point is you can make up any nonsensical unsupported bullshit theory as long as you make sure that it can't quite be proven impossible, thats why science sticks to the ones we have evidence pointing towards

how about you faggots shut up and just start living life without worrying about trivial stuff like this, goddamn.

do you realize how ignorant you sound? if you look into it, you will find irrefutable evidence that JESUS was a real person(now i realize this doesnt prove what he did but you can not dispute that he was a REAL person)

if you cant believe the bible then you cant believe any ultra old historical document.

sorry for the double post, but, these threads really need to stop, or just start posting in the other more established thread.

Nobody in their right minds would take half the shit Plato talks about as actual historical record. Nobody should take a historical document of any age and declare it 'true' without considering the factors influencing the writers.

Jesus was probably a real person. There is some doubt over the 'miracles' however, as legends grow over time. Theres a chance its true, yes, but in my mind, theres also an equal chance of Muhammad and Buddha being real prophets of a divine power as well.

Or maybe religion was built up by those seeking to control populations and was successful in its mission because people feel lost in this great universe. Science is the destruction of those lies, truth by truth.

All that stuff in a 2000 year old book is absolutely completely true...?

Now how the fuck can you prove some random text. Do they guys that wrote the book have any type of evidence to prove all their claims in the bible? Uhhhhhh no. There is none whatsoever, never will be.

Unless you get a time machine and a video camera to travel back in time, record all the observations of the bible, and prove all these claims, then, the bible can be considered a plausible source.

But you can't, so the bible isn't plausible. People only believe the bible because of one word: faith. It's the one word they use to satisfy peoples questions.

I go to a Catholic school so I have to take religon and our teacher is really chill. She is a former hippie and is open to anything. Shes smoked joints, tripped on acid and regrets none of it. We constantly get awesome stories about woodstock and shit. Anywho we were talking about moses and shit and how everything he did to the Pharaoh to scare him the Pharaoh's magicians could also. This in turn brought up the fact that if magicians before Jesus could do this stuff whos to say that Jesus wasnt just a really good illusionist?

I like to think of it as playing the game "telephone" for 2000 years. Playing it for a minute creates a skewed message already from the what the first person meant. Playing it for thousands of years can REALLY mess things up. It took a few hundred years for the whole new testament to get written down, so that's definitely a sufficient reason to say that Jesus was a great philosipher, who preached great morals and how to treat other people in order to live happily, but was not a the son of God.
