Fullface Helmets, anyone use one?

I was thinking of getting a fullface this year, my only concern is the extra leverage the mouthguard would exert on your neck in a twisting crash. I was wondering if anyone noticed this while crashing with one. I fuck my face up a lot skiing and I was thinking fullface/mouthguard would be pretty sweet.

I used to ride with a jofa helmet with a neckpiece(mouthguard) but nevr really had a bad bad fall. it didnt really twst bad on falls tho

one of my first helmets when i was racing was a full faced helmet, the only part i didnt liuek about it was that if u wanted to eat something on the life u pretty much had to take it off

for skierx(when i used to do that) i wore it and ive worn it in the backcountry but it wasnt really worth it. my biggest thing tho is if you get caught in a slide itll give u that much more breathing room

I wear a Giro Flint SC for big mountain skiing. Ive never had any problems with hurting my neck , pretty much i wouldnt ski BC BM without one besides its sick in the trees because you can go through branches and shit, i love mine.

this is retarted, a helmet is a helmet, if it fits, it feels good and it doesn't look wierd then get it, and personaly a full face helmet in my oppinion relates way to much to racing, unless your doing a lot of backcountry

Well I ski big mountain most of the time, charging crap at high speeds, its only a matter of time before a eat a tree or rock face first, while tumbling down something. I just worry about breaking my neck more easily in one

youre not gonna break your neck, just get the full face helmet

if we had more people like ATLANTASKI the world would be a better place.

if ur talking leik a racing full face helmet then the mouthguards are designed to break on impact, wich messes up ur face even more than no mouthguard

i think they are sort of dumb unless u are doing like massive bc stiff where u might smash your face off rock at any moment, but personally i would never wear/use one

i know a kid with a full face helmet...its one of those old school one with like 4 colors that are all mixed. i would never wear one like that.

I had a really bad crash at Blue Mountain where I smashed my knee into my face and gave myself a severe concusion. I now where the Flint SC when I plan on doing something stupid or skiing the trees.

You're not going to get more breathing room if you are in a slide with a full face helmet. You're going to get the front of your helmet jammed with snow and not be able to breath until you dig it out. True story.

My Giro Flint SC has saved my face and teeth several times, from under-rotating flips to putting my knees into my face dropping cliffs. If I buy another helmet it will be another full face.

I use one mountain biking too, so I am pretty used to them.

Today's post has been brought to you by the letters F, R, W and the number 7.

Yeah, I took a knee to the face this past season. Managed to dislocate my jaw temporarily and put my teeth through my chin. A full face would have either broken my neck or just bruised my knee up.

I've worn a helmet about 75% over the last 5-6 years and I think it's a good thing in general, but the funny thing is I've only had one skiing inury that a regular helmet would have helped. That was a fall in the bumps where I got spun around and landed backward and smacked my head and ended up with a concussion. (stars, memory loss, the works.)

I've also broken my nose and busted up my lip real good and a helmet wouldn't have done much for either of these injuries.

If you use a snowmobile alot to acces the backcountry I would definetely suggest a full face. I have a full face for slednecking and it's saved me a few times.

If you don't mind some weird looks in the lift line and the heat, I would do it if you think it's gonna help.

On a side note, I can't believe how may people ski with sunglasses vs. goggles. I never ski hard with sunglasses because my goggle have saved my eyes and nose from too many ski tips to the face.

yeah I took a skitip to the face late season left me a nice scar on my cheek, I couldnt ski with sunglasses for the sole fact that it's too windy and my eyes would water

haha by the sounds of it you need one dude. Just buy one because nobody on the site has said anything bad about one, usually theres lots of horror stories. And ignore the people who dont think it looks fashionable, because for big mountain those bike helmets or whatever look sweet

If I had more energy, I'd burn that young mans face

Yeah I don't care about "looking cool" as long as I am not putting my neck in harms way so to speak. And Yes I definetly could use all the protection I can get, it will pay for itself on ER visits alone. everytime I had to get stiches or bullshit this season it was like 500$

not always. anything that gives you a better chance is good. if you dont have a helmet at all you will get packed in anyway.

Try it. Use a full face helmet and face plant in powder. It's not fun having to scrape snow out of your helmet with a glove on so that you can breath.

when it comes down to it, you have to decide between the possibility of breaking your face, vs breaking your neck. Which is a real factor when wearing a fullface. True, it probably wont happen, but it has. Fullfaces are much much more likely to injure your neck in certain types of crashes. Yet they protect your face from knees and branches and whatever else. Its a tough call for me.

I wear the Giro Flint SC and for the most part, I like it. The bar though isn't gonna protect you from everything and it's pretty warm on spring days.

I wear a fullface on certain days:

i recently broke my c5 vetebrae as a result from a crash with a ehlmet on...BUT!!! it saved me from a probable skull fracture (grade 3 concussion, out of it for hours, minor swelling etc...) so yeah there are risks...but believe ME whiplash vs death is a no brainer....I have lost several dear friends from ehad injuries in Tahoe that could have possibly been prveneted if they had a helmet...it may not save u from a trip to the hospital but it will help keep you from dying....

side not...that shit about avy debris getting caught inside your face guard is BULL, you are FAR more liekly to die from trauma during the slide than from suffocation...so take you chances and be smart

just get the full face. i wouldnt use one for park but if youre skiing bc and stuff like that get one and if u go throu tight trees it will save u from braches in the face. they dont look bad either so i think u should get one and its just gonna protect your face if u hava a fall,so theyer arent really any reasons why u shouldnt get one

if we had more people like ATLANTASKI the world would be a better place.

i've got the giro mad max, and its a great helmet... However, it lack ventilation. So if you get a full face, get one with vents!!

you only need a fullface if you are riding crazy lines out on the large hills. in the park you must be doing something wrong if you fuck your face up alot. i'll give you once, or maybe twice, but almost all the time a normal helmet should be sweet.

'this is just like sex, only im having it!'

I never fucked my face up in the park, it was always hitting BC booters in the spring or hucking big cliffs. Even when I totally fuck up in the park it never hurts that much

i dont like things blocking my view thats why i rarely wear a helmet

nope doesnt get in the way more than goggles do i cant see my jawpiece.

I wear a Giro Mad Max S most of the time when I'm riding. The vents of the MTB version are nice, but the Snow version is carbon/kevlar layup, and weighs about a half a pound less, which is definitely noticable, plus you can get it painted easier, heh.

Smith Prodigy's fit fantastic, and the padding is great, as well as machine washable, which is good for people who get stinky heads.

The visor definitely cuts down slightly when doing straight backflips, but other than that, it really isn't noticeable once you get used to it.

Getting tunes in there is hard, but you can modify some over the ear jobs to work if you're serious.

Here's the Mad Max S I wore last winter...

hah thanks for the info, nice helmet by the way, I'm not into anything real flashy, I liked the troy lee some kid posted earlier, troy lee shit is mad expensive though at least for motox helmets
