Full Tilt cables/fit questions

Alright I’ve spent the last 30 mins at least reading every single “my full tilts are too loose” thread on ns and a chunk of time googling things too and still didn’t get good answers so hoping to find that here thx. stick with me it’s a kinda long one.

ive got some 2011 FT drop kicks that are a close but not good enough fit for me and I want to see how good I can get them while not spending much money. The two main problems are:

1. There’s always a small gap in my shin area where the boot doesn’t sit flush to my leg, even if I max out the top buckle/strap. This obviously kills the responsiveness and is just generally annoying to me. (before you ask, yes I’ve moved the cable back inside the boot, and no it’s not because my calves are tiny ?)

2. My toes (and all the way up to the instep part of my foot) has too much movement. my toes are touching the end of the liner when I stand up straight, but I can flex them up or curl them down a whole lot. I can also sorta roll my foot a bit side to side, but mostly just in that lower part.

For solutions, I just bought a pair of the ‘expert’ booster straps online because I’m 90% sure this will solve the shin gap. If you think it’ll still suck, let me know why. For the rest of my problems I’m thinking that shortening my lower cable is a must, and then get some footbeds if it still isn’t fitting well enough. I know the shorter cables can be bought online but it seems hard to find the right length at a non-absurd price so I’m considering doing it myself. Has anyone done this themselves? The bottom cable doesn’t back out because it has a metal cylinder sort of thing crimped on the end. Maybe replace that with a rivet that I can crush on? I’m not sure what would work. Last question if all else fails is what type of foot bed or insole do you recommend? Superfeet is what I’m thinking.

thanks homies

To confirm, did you get the boots cheap af and you just want to see if you can get them to work for you? The stuff you’ve said seems pretty reasonable so long as shortening the cables doesn’t affect their ability not to snap under pressure. Foot beds are always a good plan although you’ll probably find this gives you more room in the toe box, not less

i’d first get some custom insoles and then if necessary cut the cable. if i was you i wouldn’t cut the cable tho, instead try to find a lower buckle/cable from a smaller shell size as they are shorter. evo had the cables listed but not available so maybe try your local FT dealer.

Full Tilt usually sells cables on the website but I see they aren't listed right now. I know they are redoing the shop on their website but check with [tag=154780]@tomPietrowski[/tag] he might be able to help you out.

I would definitely go for the custom foot beds as a first resort. Then take the boots to a boot fitter and get a professional opinion, they will probably make a few adjustments and decide if that is a good boot for your feet and if they aren’t they can help find ones that are. Honestly it’s worth it to have the right gear so you can ride better rather than risk it and be sidelined for the whole season.

This is my third season with them, but yeah I got them second hand for like $120 cad, and at that price point they really can’t be beat. Why do you say that foot beds would give me more room in the toes? That doesn’t make sense to me

[tag=134699]@onenerdykid[/tag] will be able to answer this better than me but essentially without arch support your feet will basically flatten and spread out. The arch support of the insole will support your foot, keep it from flattening and therefore your toes won’t be pushed forward

Oh never thought if it like that. Do you have any suggestion for which insoles are worth it?

I know some people rate superfeet I think it’s called. Personally I’d just go to a ski shop if there’s one near you and see what they have. A good shop will mold the insole to your foot so it should be a really good fit
