whats not with the laces?
they're meant to look like a bball hightop. hence the basketball style sock at the top.they are pretty cool, plus with your pants over them they're just red boots

Boots are the piece of ski gear where looks matter least, and the only one that I'd buy on performance over looks. Everything else doesn't matter really, but don't judge a boot by its looks. Maybe bindings too.
