What i don't get is the fact that the biggest names in skiing, candide thovex, vinnie dorian, auclair, cusson, skogen mike nick to name a few, they all say how there good because they don't wanna be like any1 else. Then y the fuck would they make contracts to put there names on skis. That really pisses me off, because if i wanna get a good set of twin tips, i have to have one just like the ones they have, and just get lost in there sea of there fame. These guys are suppose to endorse the revolution, not there budgets.

 
he hates pro-modles, but here's a solution, don't buy one. There are plenty of good skis out there that aren't pro modles, and it's not the ski that makes a skier unique, it's his style.

well, put yourself in their shoes. You can make $30,000 a year skiing for a company. $30,000 a year in the mountain communities that these guys travel and live in, isnt much at all. You can get a trailer with 4 other guys out here in vail for that much.

Now, if a company says we want to put your name on a ski, and want you to ride only this ski, and we will pay you $75,000 you would take it so you could better live.

What they mean by 'not like any1 else' is they try to keep their style, and tricks, and mentality original and authentic. Obviously everybody isnt going to be totally different, hell they all ski, and all generally appear at the same places and events.

i understand your point, but take a deep breath, and look at it from a business perspective.

not exactly sure what you're trying to say but no matter what skis you or any pro has there will be 99999999 of the same, the reason they get paid to ski on a certain ski is so the ski will sell.

I think what the pro are trying to say is they want there own individual style, not their own ski that no one else has.

yeah you cant just be a ski bum your whole life. At some point you have to get a job and put skiing second unless you are good enough to make skiing your job in which case you might actually have to do something for a company that will promote there products. Sponsorships arent just a free ride

 
What skis you own have ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with pretending to be another pro. Who here goes up to people on the slopes wearing the vinnies and starts giving them shit for copying his style?

I m not saying that i m better, i just want to be original. How can i be original when every time i look down, i see a name, its nothing to do about what ever1 else thinks, its what you think about yourself. And yea i did notice that about cr johnson, but i do kinda sympathize with him, any1 who knows exactly what they're gonna do b4 they hit a jump, is either an idiot or nuts, skiing isn't a thought, its an instinct, especially in the air

You're a dumb fuck. First of al, if you don't know what you're going to do before hitting a jump stay out of the terrain park. You're a serious threat to insurance.

So what you're saying is that because there is a name on your skis you can't be original. So if you say bought a pair for Rossignal Scratches you wouldn't be just as un original as every other kid with them??? Or do you think that since you're wearing a ski with a pro's name on it it's going to make you ski like them so then you're not original???

The point you're missing is that for this sport to thrive and continue progressing there needs to be better treatment of athletes and more money for them. The only way to get a company to be loyal is have a pro model, and the only way to keep the pro models is for kids to keep buying them. IT's exactly what snowboarding and skateboarding do and they certainly kick ass...

reedy is right on. i was waiting for the skate/snowboard example to be buster out there. look at how huge those sports are. almost every company has a pro model for each of their biggest riders. that makes the sport great because the riders who push themselves get to create a ski/snowboard/skate deck that they truley love and that represents them. then the masses can actually ride something that represents their favorite rider if that is what they are so inclined to do. having things like pro model skis, big contracts, and yes even more exposure is going to make this sport better. you may think it is 'selling out' but if we didn't have even the little exposure that our industry gets right now, you would still be skiing on non-twintipped 204cm race skis, or maybe a pair of 145cm super 'parabolic' skis.

oh, and in regards to the comment about C.R.-

if you really payed attention to the us open you would have noticed that he was also throwing unnatural cork5/underflip that was so sick. but after that he realized that if he really wanted to win, he would have to step it up with something ridiculous like a bio 12 near mute. it's not his fault that judging is still stuck on the big tricks. with time our sport will learn...

the thing with pro models is that you need to put a face to the ski. thats' a big marketing pitch so you can appeal to the little kids who only ski once a year but want the cusson's for christmas cause they saw him on the x games. Don't forget the ski industry is and will always be about making money, every industry is the same. it's the same with skateboarding and snowboarding, if the name bothers you, fuckin put a piece of duct tape over it and write your name.

AS regards to the person who called me a dumb fuck, if u know what you are gonna do, ie 'Hey i m gonna do a sick fakie to frontflip,' u screw up, which happens to the best of us, and you will end up breaking your neck. The only dumbfuck is a person who is so stubborn that he would rather be a vegetable then smart. Also, i don't know if u know what its like in the air, cuz maybe your all talk, but its an exhiliration, u don't always have time to remember what you want to do.

Also just because they have names on there skis, doesn't mean they are the best. I still have a greater respect for mike Douglas, and think that he is one of the best. Same with Szocs, Pollard, Deschneaux, the three phils,Burke, Hall, Thomas. YOu don't think that rex thomas wasn't offered a ski with his name on it, b/c he is the pride of the aft. Also, y the fuck fight with me, if we both want the same thing, for skiing to be kick-ass. I just have an opinion, and so do you. Thats what this forum is about, opinions

 
Alright, clearly you don't have a clue what your talking about. your not even worth my time. If I'm all talk, than so be it. You be the judge.

What this sport needs to secure money for the top skiers is pro models. Everyone that has a clue knows this. Just wait until next years dynastar concept is replaced by the three phils pro model. And I hope for the sake of the sport many more, it's the only way to assure proper treatment from a company all the time.

There is no way you can hit a kicker, and then decide what you trick you want to do. How would you get the rotation for a 1080 if you didn't wind up before the kicker? Or a switch 360, if you got into the air, and you wern't riding switch? You can bet that the majority of the guys/girls who are hitting kickers in the parks know exactly what they are going to do before they hit it. If you don't, you are heaps more likely to fuck up. You need to commit to a trick, and be thinking about which way you are going to throw it. You can't get into the air and then decide, because there is a greater chance you will be indecisive, because you have a split second to decide. You might be able to decide in the air if you are doing small grabs etc, but not for the tricks you were describing. And you might not be a 'dumb fuck', but you are definetly nieve.

And what i mean to say was not in the air, but just before u hit the jump, thats when u know what your gonna do, in the hit, u find out how big your gonna do it. I say it because one of my friends is in hospital for a year now, because he fucked up at the last second.
