Fucking p18 plate breakage!! w/ pics

Okay. So yesterday I broke the second plate on my p18s. The plate Im talking about is the plastic one under the toe piece. First time I got my hand on a new one instantly, and this time I have just glued it temporarily. Has anyone else experienced this? Obviously it snaps as my boot releases. I had a few bails yesterday, but Im not able to tell when it happened cuz it did not break compleatly of. Idk why it happens. This should hold up cuz theres only the boot resting on it, and sliding of on release.

I have talked to Look today and they are sending me 3 new ones. This is bugging me cause I have to demount the toe piece and its not like the drill holes are forever.

Here are some pics:

Damage is done slightly under the metal part.

Old piece and the one I broke yesterday. Notice the glue.

1. That is a crazy amount of wear on the toe piece - do you kick your boots in or step in

2. It is a race binding what do you expect?

3. Do you expect "e-props" for breaking a thin piece of plastic? Like wow man, you broke those bindings, you must be gnarly

I step into it. And no I dont expect any props. If you read properly youll see that im asking for possible reasons, solutions etc, not trying to be gnarly. idiot!

And since its a racebinding, its supposed to hold up. Imagine the the preassure on those things when going over 100mph downhill.

When I talked to look today, they told me they have never heard of anything like this.

well maybe when youre releasing your boot is twisting unparalled from the ski, so its putting contact on the side of that piece. i dont know just trying to offer advice

I don't wanna make a new thread, but just a quick question. The white part, the slider plate thing, mine feels like it moves really poorly sometimes, clearly some dirt/dust stuck under it, is this an issue I should go and clean up or it doesn't matter?

Probably you have the p12/14 which has a slider. This one is another and it does not move. Its stuck to the black piece.

rocktheEPs, yeah thats what Im thinking also. Ill try to look into that.

What do you mean by heli-coiled sean?

take your skis to a shop and tell them to heli coil the toepiece. they'll know what to do.

it's what you do when you have a toe or heel piece rip out. think kind of like putting a snowboard inserts in your existing holes... but not exactly.

my theory, probably not right, but because there is no vertical release on the toe piece for race stocks it snapping the plactic when your boot gets pulled up, thats the best i got, you must be skiing really hard though thats crazy never seen it happen before

my din is at 8-10 depending on what I ski. Ive hit some big jumps lately, but its not like I am candide or something like that. Maybe my boots width is catching the side of this plate. Does a vertical release mean that the toe piece has 2 parts which are spreading insted of this one twisting upon release?

I suspect like Sean was implying, that a screw or two in your toepiece is not really screwed in the core. So like he suggested, try having that toepiece heli-coiled.

the race stocks dont release upwards, only horizontally in the toe piece, so your boot maybe acting like a wrench if you land backseat and cracking the plate, idk i still have never seen that happen

what difference would that make? The toetpiece sits like a motherfucker on the ski, so I assume its screwed into the core.

Idk if landing backseat would affect it cause that would put preassure on the front part of the plate. Its more likely that my boot catches the side and twists it, causing it to crack, OR when my boot slides of, with preassure upwards on the toepiece, its to much weight down on the plate and the boot kinda dig into it (its kinda soft) and twists it as it release.

Whatever the reason is, its fucking pissing me of right now!

well since its a race binding, especially a p18, one should expect that they wont break. p18s are arguably one of the most durable and gnar binding out to the public. it scares me to think that you frown down upon racing bindings. some of the best bindings from all the companies are made for racing. s916, s914, p14, p18. the list goes on.

^^being that this cat is riding a din18 binding at 8-10 suggests to me that he has zero clue regarding bindings and just has these to impress others -

^yeah thats why I have them mounted on every ski I ever owned. They are fucking bombproof. Until now I guess.

Your theory is compleatly stupid, saying to have to crank the din to 18 just because you can. I bet to drive your car at max rpm every gear just because you can, which then again makes you a fucking tool!

Not to beat this horse to death but....

Using a din18 race spring binding at an 8-10 setting shows how LITTLE you know about how a binding works.

Maxing out a binding is about as bad as keeping it at the bottem end of it's setting. They are designed to work best in the middle 2/3rds of it's setting.

Durability?? Well they seem pretty bombproof looking at those pictures.

no, no, heli coil them since you're removing the toepice and intend on screwing it back into the same holes after it is fixed.
