i fucking hate the left lane bullshit. today on the way up to go skiing i got a ticket for 'being in the left lane too long' which is crap. i pass somebody and then a few seconds later i get pulled over for being in the lane too long. so its 3 points, 1 if i mail the 40 buck ticket in. anyone else had problems with this? grrrrrrrrrr

in colorado its a law. you can ONLY be in the left lane if you are passing. so the second you pass i guess you have to cut over and then once your riding the cars ass in front of you you have to get back over into the left lane. its total bullshit

i think it's a federal highway law that you can only travel in the far left lane (the passing lane, or the fast lane) for a certain number of miles before you have to chill out in the next lane for a little bit.

no it wasnt a carpool lane and no its not a matter of mileage. its just once you pass a car you have to get over to the right lane

i think it might be a law in ontario, not sure. in driving school they told us about it but im not sure if its law. one of my first times driving I was in the left lane and a cop came up from behind and tailgated me for several kilometres before i realised what he wanted. when i moved over he just drove off tho.

oh. excuse me. that's shitty. in massachusetts, you can travel in the far left (passing/fast) lane for a few miles, but only for a few miles, and after that you have to at least check back in with the boys in the travelling lane.

no it seriously is a law in colorado. there was a grace period of like 6 months or something and with the new year they have been enforcing it strictly i guess.

i completely agree. i wasnt holding up any cars. it wasnt busy at all on the freeway. and im not gonna cut a car off to get over to the right lane right away

It is a law in ontario, but iv never heard of it being enforced. that sucks for you though, bad timeing and all with a cop there to see you.

OK, I need to figure this out. It's illegal, if you're on a 4 lane highway to stay in the left lane for longer than a certain bit? 4 lanes being 2 one way and 2 the other way. In ontario you can be in the the left lane as long as you want as logn as you aern't impeding traffic.

first of all, there's no federal highway laws in america, they're all up to the state.

secondly, in the poster's situation, it's ridiculous to get pulled over for not immediately getting back to the right lane, I agree with you.

But why would you want to drive in the left lane if you're not passing? You should always drive to the right as far as possible, so long as there is no one in front of you slowing you down. If there is, you move over a lane to pass. If everyone followed that, traffic would flow better. When you have a three lane highway, and someone in the leftmost lane going slower than people in the middle lane, it fucks things up. Think about it.

 
wow i didn't know they were being that strict about it. they recently passed this law in colorado, mostly because idiots (not 3ski6guy0) LOVE to drive slow as fuck all the way down I-25 in the left hand lane because they suck at life. this law was supposed to prevent that, and it does, but you probably just got a cop who'd had a slow day and needed to catch up on his numbers.

I don't think they thinking about slow drivers in the left lane at all.

I agree with the law to let ambulances through ect. but enforcing it that strictly is bullshit. Mail it in.

Man I wish they enforced that law here in ontario. The left lane is the PASSING lane people, if your not passing anyone you should be in the right lane. I fking want to shoot left lane bandits.

the laft lane is the damn passing lane. all interstates have the same law. get over it, dont cruise in the passing lane and you wont have a problem. if you say the highway wasn't that busy then chilling in the right lane and passing people on the left once in a while shouldnt have been a major ordeal now ehh?

i fucking hate the people who just sits in the left lane and not passing or whatnot....one time when i was on I-5, 3 lanes i was in the left, i drove up behind the pick up driving the same speed as the uhaul truck in the middle lane, another car same speed as those 2, i got fucking pissed casue the fuckin pick up wouldn't move, so i flashed him to move his mothafucka ass (it was night time), didn't speed up to pass...so i flashed his ass again, he fucking slammed on his break...what a dumpshit...he still didn't make the pass..i flashed once again, and one more time..he finally pulled over and let me fucking through what a fuckin ass

I believe you're only allowed to be in the left lane for 2 miles. It might be more though. Usually its not enforced, you'll only get fucked with that if the cops a real asshole.
